Sentry - brand new or classic hero?

I'm a bit confused about The Sentry. Is he a brand new hero that Marvel is pretending has a long but forgotten history, or is he a classic hero who was forgotten and is now being relaunched?

Did that make sense?

Distilled down, he's a brand new hero that they are giving a "twist" to by pretending that he's actually an old one...but he's not.
