Geez Gail how did you think to name the group that? Here we go a reboot lol. Just playing. Really great issue although I would have loved to see a whole view of Dalten Towers. It was really cool to see Bruce Timm. I have to scan that picture of Dinah jumping from the Aerie 2. We gots a jet, pad, chopper, and logo oh my!
Oh and...
I smell a Babs and Dick date issue. That was the fastest party I have ever seen :)

With three kickass tales of our favorite four-color females, the team finally getting a name, and one of the tales by Bruce Timm, what's gonna be left for Gail to do in issue #500? ;)

Great issue.. Zinda really is a great relatable character and I love the way she is trying to create a family around her.. very in character for a displaced person and it makes her very likable. I hope you do plan on turning up the romantic tension between Babs and Dick.. actually, I'd love to see a Babs, Dick, and Kory love triangle heat up. Dick is better when he has multiple girl problems. I'd really like to see Dick about to lean in for a kiss with Kory and BAM! Babs walks into the room. Speaking of which...
Toe WIGGLE! A whole month without a toe wiggle update!
Great issue! Gail you are soo the stuff!

If she gets a spotlight issue, think you could get Bruce Timm or somebody to do a homage of the classic Kirby Avengers cover where Cap debuts?

She really is the Cap of this group.

It all sounds pretty good.

I got the patience of a guy with a funnelweb down his pants when it comes to waiting for the next issue to come out !

Fun little issue :)

My favorite things:
The Zinda/Creote subplot (Hee,hee,hee)
Zinda was the one that named the team.
Huntress is back in the fold

I worry that if I keep going on and on about how much I love Zinda she will slap me with a restraining order, but I've gotta say it: how could anybody read this issue and not be at least a little bit in love with Zinda? I mean, come on!

I'm torn between whether my favorite line in this issue is Dinah's "It's altogether ooky!" or Creote's "I-- I do not wish to see these things."

I love this book so much it's illegal in 38 states.

Say is Zinda the same Lady Blackhawk who fought cold-war Sci-fi Weapons in the 50's and 60's with the rest of Blackhawk Squadron because if she is she's very well preserved.

Yep.

Through a bizarre accident of shifting reality in the wake of the Crisis and Zero Hour and whatever continuity-altering event happened last time, Zinda has found herself displaced in time. Think "Captain America circa Avengers #4" and you'll be fine.

I know, it's so hard not to be in love with Zinda. And I never really liked Blackhawks before either. So yay for Gail!

Ah Savant, so oblivious to Creote. Man I love this book.

great issue. .

although I , at least, found the Timm artwork to be quite jarring in the middle of the issue.

I'd have prefered that story to be at the end of the issue, or the whole issue to be done by him.

Great appearance by Huntress over in JSA Classified this week too.

by the way. . did Babs and Commish. Gordon ever have thier chat? I was looking forward to it this issue. Did it happen "off panel" Gail?. . or did she never tell him?

I didn't find Timm's art distracting at all, it was appropriate for the part of the story he did, same thing for Lopez's part as well. All three artists did a great job, but I can't wait until we get Bennett back.

Me neither. In fact, a year ago the two blocs of DC characters I was least interested in were the New Gods/Forever People crowd and the Blackhawks. I mean, I was really, REALLY not into the Blackhawks. At all. They had been actively boring me for at least 20 years. Now, thanks to Zinda (as written by Gail), I'm trying to decide where on my body I want the Blackhawk tattoo. ;)

I never heard/read of Zinda until Simmo included her in BoP.

Go figger.

This is such a goofy question I almost hate to ask....

I'm a regular reader of BOP but not much else of the other Bat-titles. I just picked an issue of "The Outsiders" (I'm not a regular reader of that title) and saw Dick sleeping with Kory. What's the deal? Is Dick with Kory or babs?

This was a good issue. I liked Adriana Melo's art a lot. The bruce Timm stuff was nice but I'm just not a fan of that type of art unless it's a "lite" or "fun" story. I'm still not big on Bennet's art on the book and thought about dropping it but the writing keeps me coming back. I have to hand it to Gail, the great characterizations and her abilty to to keep shaking things up keep me coming back.

The Nightwing in Outsiders and the Nightwing in his own title read very differently from each other. Since Outsiders debuted I got the sense that Mr. Winick and Ms. Grayson have different interpretations of the character. At some point after Winick’s version of the character debuted I pretty sure Devin said something to the effect that Winick’s Batman was on a different channel then her version.

Also the conflict between the Nightwings goes beyond Nightwing’s preference in sexual partners. Their relationship with Batman and the rest of the DCU also differ greatly.

Judd really doesn't consult with us, I'm afraid, probably because his schedule is insane. Yes, it would have been nice to know this scene in Outsiders was coming up, but that's just how it goes, unfortunately.

Well, I was hoping for *more* of the Commish, as always. :)

He'd had to be five kinds of dense not to have figured things out, if not in NML then all the events surrounding the surgery, including knowing who Dinah is, would certainly have clued in even a relatively dumb individual and Jim Gordon's not dumb.

Eh. Just read the Dick Grayson you like better. Pretend they're on parallel earths or something.

I like to pretend the whole Infinite Crisis stuff is happening on another earth and what's going on in BoP is just a few degrees off, even if the events are similar.

Heck, I figure Earth-2 is even still out there somewhere, kept alive by the worldmind of reader love.

Works for me.

It would be cool if the Commish joined the Birds in some capacity. A father-daughter team is unusual in super hero comics. Heck, right now I cannot remember one.

This was definitely one of my favorite issues of BoP ever. When I realized that they never actually referred to themselves as the Boids, and now they do... that was an ace moment. Am I the only one that thinks that the girls would make a kickin' band? Spin-off idea! Anyway, this was a gorgeous, fun-as-heck book and I LOVE Bruce Timm so that was a big treat for me.

Amazing job Gail, you've really made these characters come alive to me- I smiled, I laughed, I cried, I called long distance. Also, every artist really pulled out the magic on this one, I just really can't squeal enough for this one. Whee!

Dick being with Barbara or Kory wasn't a major concern of mine I just wondered where the realationship was in terms of who Dick (or DC) sees as Dick's actual girlfriend. What happened in both stories doesn't really contradict each other. It's possible Dick is actually dating/sleeping with Kory but has strong feelings for Babs too. This type of thing is quite common.

I wonder if Gail's talking about Jimbo Gordon coming back as Commish.

'Cause Mark Waid did this radio interview where he kept making cracks about how he'd had too much to drink and, uhm, well, he slipped that he was looking forward to Morrison's take on Batman (which is rumored, not announced) and gave Gordon being commissioner as an example of the kind of thing that the DCU will be going back to.

This paragraph will contain several spoilers for the latest Outsiders issue so stop reading this sentence if you don’t want things spoiled for you. Okay you been warned so don’t go complaining I’ve spoiled thing for you if you’re waiting for the trade. I think the latest issue was Judd way of letting Devin have Nightwing to herself. In past issue of Outsiders Nightwing left the team after the insiders storyline. Furthermore while Nightwing did sleep with Kory the encounter did not end well as Kory turned away from him. Assuming this issue of Outsiders takes place before Devin’s version of Nightwing severed all ties with his caped family a case could be made that both Nightwings have always been on the same page it just that Devin’s version was a few chapters ahead of Judd Winick’s version. There all continuity problems with Nightwing have been addressed and I’ll be waiting for my no prize.

I don’t think a romance drama between Dick, Kory, and Babs would work well right now in any of their respective books. This subplot would put a lot of their other plots on the back burner and who wants that. Besides it would be crossover city between Nightwing, Birds Of Prey, and the Outsiders and while I collect all three books I think a good deal of the readership will feel put out if they are forced to collect books they normally wouldn’t read. Anyway Nightwing needs to do a lot of self discovery and healing before he even thinks about getting involved in a committed relationship with anyone. Also if Kory is ever going to have her own book she needs to be strike out on her own as she has only been used as a plot device to further the development of other characters. Lastly if Dick and Babs stay broken up it allows them to pursue romantic relationships in their own book which always adds new dynamics to existing storylines.
