Hey.

I've also posted at Meltzer's forums and e-mailed back and forth with him myself. Apparently, as a result, I got an e-mail coupon that I'm free to pass on.

Buy the IDC hardcover and get a copy of ARCHER'S QUEST in the mail for free from DC.

Here's the e-mail:

Well, it took us a year, but here it is -- on sale today -- the hardcover, fully-collected edition of Identity Crisis, the murder mystery I wrote starring Superman and Batman. And not only does it have all 218 pages of story, but it also includes a huge commentary section by me and the artists detailing how I put the story together, what the original script said, and how the artists then proceeded to ignore me. Truthfully, no different than my home life.

To be clear, I'm as proud of this book as anything I've ever written -- and this was the book I'd waited my whole life to write. Best of all, you can pick it up and understand it even if you've never read a comic book.

In fact, DC Comics is so dying to convert our family and friends, if you buy Identity Crisis and send in the attached coupon, they'll send you a FREE copy of my last comic book story, Green Arrow: The Archer's Quest. That's a free book. No joke. As Cori said, "Wow, that's either really smart or really stupid." Nice, dear.

So there you go. As always, I'm only sending this out to our nearest and dearest, but feel free to share the butterfly kisses.

Oh, and you can buy it at all major bookstores including the following:

To buy it at Amazon, click here

To buy it at Barnes & Noble, click here

To buy it at your local independent bookseller, click here

To buy it at a nearby comic shop, click here

If you lose the coupon, it's always at: www.bradmeltzer.com

And if you do buy it, thank you. As I said, this was my dream come true from when I was seven years old and my grandfather used to make up Batman stories just because he knew I loved hearing them. So thanks to him -- and to you.

Much love from everyone here in sunny (hurricane-soaked) Florida,

Brad

I picked up the Turner cover today. Despite what alot of people think I thought the story was very well done. Loved the art as well as the explanations in the back. Very cool that Dinah was modeled after Michelle Pfeiffer and Rebecca Romijn.

Rebecca Romijn is really cool. I wrote her a letter back when she was hosting the House of Style on MTV asking her to autograph a picture. And she did!!! I've always admired her for that.

That's a helluva deal. I have the IDC originals, but it's still worth it to get both books for the price of one.

Does anyone know if ARCHER'S QUEST is also a hardcover?

Pretty sure it is based on the coupon.

I'm not TOO excited because my comic shop put all the trades at 30% off about once a month and somewhere around four times a year does a massive 50% off sale on all trades (including hardcovers).

I forgot to include in the "Things you like that everybody seems to hate" thread that I'm one of the people that REALLY liked IDENTITY CRISIS. In fact, it actually succeeded in getting me to read other DC titles again.

I liked IDC up until the lame-ass ending.

I've said it before, I thought it was better and more tastefully done when it was the Long Halloween.

That said...

Eh.

I've been a fan of Rags' art. The dialogue and emotion is nice when we get it.

I'd rather see Meltzer telling stories than being drafted as the architect for the DCU.

My concern is that in 20 years, he's gonna be doing what Frank Miller and Alan Moore have done the last few years.

He'll say, "No. Really. It was just one story. I was having a bad day. I wasn't trying to influence the whole company. It was just ONE story. I want comics to be more like the comics I enjoyed as a kid again..."

My problem with these kind of stories is that Pandora can't put the demons back in the box.

I think that's probably about the only Alan Moore/Frank Miller comparison I've heard anyone lob Meltzer's way that may ulitimately pan out. ;)
