Runaways.....Help for new reader!!!

Hi everyone!

First of all, I'd like to say that all the positive reviews about the Runaways definitely made me pick up #8 today at the shop.

But can someone PLEASE fill me in on what I've misssed in this series so far? I kinda feel like I'm in over my head, and the web can only give crappy summaries of the books.

Any help would be tremendously appreciated!!

You're really best off picking up the first two digests. Or getting them at the library.

To sum it up as briefly as possible: six kids find out their parents are leaders of a criminal syndicate called The Pride- some are aliens, some are inventors, some are time-travelers, some are criminal masterminds, etc. The kids run away from home and try to get the authorities involved, but are thwarted and have to remain on their own, dodging their parents and having adventures. In the end (after the 18 issues of the first series), their parents are defeated (and killed) and the remaining kids (one was a traitor) are put in orphanages, but run away and reconnect to clean up the aftereffects of their parents' crime syndicate and just generally be superheroes.

That covers the first 18 issues. The book was relaunched recently with the kids doing their thing, but a group of former teen superheroes (Chamber, Darkhawk, Starstreak, Ricochet, Turbo, Phil Urich) hired to try to get them off the streets. In the most recent arc, the Runaways gained a new member; the current arc focuses on one of the original members, Karolina, who's an alien and just found out she's engaged to a Skrull (even though she's a lesbian). Next issue, #9, will begin a new story arc guest-starring Cload and Dagger.

you should at least tried to have picked up 7 today too, if your shop still had it. it was the first part of the current two part storyline.
