It's almost the deadline for November orders and I haven't been able to find out that much about the new Thing book coming out by Marvel.
All I know about Dan Slott is what I read in She Hulk (which I really liked). Is She Hulk par for his style?

Pros and Cons?

Thanks,

Banner

He also wrote GLA, the Great Lakes Avengers miniseries. He does good comedy books. Some people like it, some don't.

If you're wondering how many to order, try the same amount that you plan on ordering of the upcoming She-Hulk series.

But he also did Arkham Asylum: Living Hell which was dark and nasty and completely great!

And yes, I'll be getting the Thing book. Can't wait.

I'll give anything by Dan Slott a chance. I'm even buying Amazing Fantasy #15 because he and Kirkman are each writing a story.

I enjoyed Dan Slott's work on GLA and anticipate reading another title by him. Since I'd rather not follow She-Hulk (no matter how great the writing is), I'll probably try the new Thing title.

What I'm heard and from talking to Dan Slott on here it seems like it'll be a good book... I really enjoyed his She-Hulk and Spider-Man/Human Torch.

It seems like this will be more like She Hulk with alot of guest stars, getting Thing back to his fun loving self and the idea of Thing with lots of money opens up alot of doors. That reminds me, Slott if your reading, make sure you do a poker game. I love Thing's poker games

He's a nice guy and has a the type of writting style I like so I think its worth paying a few £ to try out at the very least the first few issues.

Two in One was great.

And yep, can't get enough Speedball (damn you, Joey Q- I read the Newsarama interview!)

By the way, great cartoons in your link - loved the Spidet & Doom in class one!

I'll be buying it, definitely. Slott's a great writer, one of the very best Marvel has at the moment, and DiVito is a very talented artist (turned Thor: Disassembled and Beta Ray Bill from comics which were just very good indeed to comics which were excellent). I'm expecting good things from this book (no pun intended!).

I love the old Two-in-Ones as well. And Ben is a pretty fun character. I, unlike many of you have not been overly impressed with GLA or his She-hulk work. That said, I will give it a look. I don't really have a 'humor' book I am following regularly and if a humorous look at Señor Grimm is done in a way that strikes me, I can see buying it regularly. So I am open-minded to the idea, but not sold just yet... ;)

I'll give any series Slott is working on a shot, so yeah, I'll be snatching up his THING.

Wait....that sounds wrong....

I dunno... I was a Thing die-hard in the 80's... was REALLY pissed when his solo title got cancelled and he didn't officially join the Whackos, read the FF ONLY during that short stint (which wasn't that great looking back I guess) when he was leading and it was him, Johnny, Crystal and Ms. Marvel... I dunno. Maybe I should, if only to support the character.

Ahh, for those halcyon days when Spidey & the Thing were the top Marvel characters. Wolver-who?

Slott's writing it so I'm there, what with She Hulk possibly being my absolute favourite Marvel book that I've ever read (though I am more of a DC guy so I haven't read that much Marvel anyway). I'm not sure about the artist though. I've never seen anything by Andrea Di Vito so could someone please post a sample of her (?) work?

His art is beautiful. He did the last arc of THOR during the "Disassembled" thingy last year, and I fell in love with his work.

Here's a link (http://www.andreadivito.com/) to his official home page.

I'l buy the first issue because Bill Foster is in it, because DiVito is awesome and because Slott mentioned that this will be more fun than "funny".
(plus he has also said that the book will have lots of Old School Marvel Blockbusting action)
But if the book turns into a She-hulk-like joke-a-thon, I am dropping it.

Just ordered it. Dan's the man.

BTW, if Dandaman happens to venture this way, I'd like to request that, some time in the future--in either The Thing or She-Hulk (though preferably the latter)--that he include some reference to Child of the Darkholde. I think it'd only be fitting.

No offense, COTD.

You noticed he's going to be in the Thunderbolts as well? Goold ol' Kyle will give classic cred to any title he's in.

The Thing was one of Marvel's very best characters, until he got his solo series. It turns out that once you take Ben away from a team situation, or at least team-up (as in Marvel Two-in-One), he stops cracking jokes and becomes very sullen. That killed his title in the 80's, and soured fans on him for years to come.

Since Dan Slott will be writing this, the tone will probably be light and humorous. But I still think that the team-up title is a better format for Thing. Each issue, he gets a new serious partner that he joke around with as they keep setting him up with straight lines. And with all his weird experiences in the pages of Fantastic Four, Ben can easily adjust to the most bizarre situations... another potential source of humor.

Given the info that's been released about the book, I have a feeling this is going to be Marvel Two-In-One in all but name.

Well, and hopefully crappy story structure. But that's the limitation of the 22 page format.
