According to a panel report (http://www.silverbulletcomics.com/news/story.php?a=775) from the Baltimore Comic-Con, we'll be getting . . .

- A collection of Gerber's OMEGA THE UNKNOWN, to coincide with Jonathan Lethem's new OMEGA project.

- Eighteen new Masterworks volumes (12 silver age, 4 golden age, 1 monsters, 1 western), including RAWHIDE KID.

- Twenty-four new Essential volumes, including NOVA.

- An oversized hardcover of Kirby's ETERNALS, to coincide with Neil Gaiman's new ETERNALS project.

- An Omnibus of the all-new, all-different period UNCANNY X-MEN.

There are some other announcements about the Ultimate line, some X-Men events, and a crossover or two, but I think we can all agree that these are the important ones.

Gadzooks! 24 Essentials. That's two a month. I can't read them that fast. Not with the pile I already have. I wonder if that includes new editions of existing volumes.

Hmmmm...that monster Masterworks could find a home.

I'll definitely be on the Omega trade.

I'll look for the Eternals HC on e-bay...but I just can't pay retail for these things.

That's great news. As many of you know, I am a huge Rawhide Kid fan.

It will be interesting to see how it is organized - whether it begins in the beginning or starts at the Rawhide Kid #17 relaunch.

I have most of this series - so I don't think I'll be picking this up unless I can get a good deal on eBay. Retail is just too steep, and the exchange rate is out of touch with reality.

It's funny - this is the perfect series for the black and white Essentials format. When it's Kirby or Larry Lieber drawing - the art is simple yet dynamic and would be great in b&w. I have a bunch of original Lieber pages, and they look just perfect without colour.

Any more DVD collections?

40 years of ASM is terrific and I've just ordered 44 years of FF.

that's what i'm crossing my fingers for. i haven't read a marvel western since the last one i bought off the stands in the early '70s, i guess, but i remember them fondly,

*sigh* the masterworks are just too steep for me. the only one i own is the 3rd thor volume, which for some reason one of the local shops was practically giving away for something like $12.95 this summer.

I think the plans are to rerelease the Spider-Man set on one dvd, and also to do dvds for X-Men, Avengers, and something else. Hulk, maybe.

GACK! Just saw the December solicits for Marvel. $29.99 for a 224 page softcover. Not this little white duck. This will be an E-bay purchase some ways down the road.

I have the complete run of Eternals, but think it's great for everyone else to get in HC. That's a worthy collection.

I am pumped to the nth degree about Gaiman doing Eternals. Now I'm waiting for the other shoe to fall with the artistic announcement. Ladronn, Ladronn, Ladronn, Ladronn....

I'll definitely be picking up both the reprinted and new Omega series' too.

THIS is more what Marvel should be like.

How many issues did the Eternals run? Will the hardcover collect the entirety of it?

The Eternals ran for 19 issues plus a double-sized Annual. I assume the HC will collect the entire run, but with Marvel, who knows?

The Omega reprint apparently includes not only the Gerber/Skrenes run, but the tacked-on conclusion done without their approval in the Defenders. If Marvel wanted to revive Omega it could and should have finally given Gerber and Skrenes the opportunity to finish what they started, but Marvel obviously couldn't care less about what the creators' original intentions for the story, which tells you everything you need to know about where the company's priorities are.

Hopefully for the stockholders the companies priorities are on making money.

Hopefully for the stockholders the companies priorities are on making money. You'd think this was so obvious no one would have to point it out, but the official company line is subtly different: it's more like "Yes, we want to make money, but we think we can do that by concentrating on creating good stories first and relying on the market to reward quality." That, I would assert, is the official line.

The reality, though, is a little different. It's simply "Let's make money." If the company thinks they can do that by having faith in creators and allowing them the freedom to pursue their ideas then they'll do that. If they thought they could do it by concentrating on innovative storytelling, they'd probably do that. I'm saying that Omega the Unknown is evidence that such is not the case.

Thankfully, I'm not a stockholder, so my preference is to see interesting and original concepts given the chance to reach fruition. And who knows, maybe people would even want to read quality stories if they were exposed to them.

Marvel is showing faith in Lethem in allowing him to write an Omega series, since the original was never popular. I don't give them much credit for this, though, for two reasons:1) their faith in Lethem seems to me to have more to do with the prestige attached to his name than anything else and 2) as stated above, if the company was interested in the story first they'd have given the project to Skrenes and Gerber.

HEAR! HEAR!!! I can't understand why we have to pay 30% more for our books when the actual exchange rate is around 15%. (And the darned things are often printed in Canada!!!)

I had the same thought, but mostly because all my Rawhide Kid issues are B&W reprints. I can't say whether they look better or not in color, but they're just fine in black and white!

Have you guys ever considered joining the EU? The Euro might have created difficulties for minutiae such as buying a house, but one thing's for sure, it's great for indulging in your comic book habit.

Totally agree regarding the inflated Canadian prices. Joining the EU sounds good to me too. We can take the UK's place since they don't seem sure they want in or not.
