I'm listening to the latest Comic Geek Speak Podcast and one of the guys said they heard around the grapevine at the Baltimore con that Ed McGuiness was leaving DC for Marvel at some point. He went on to say that this is just a rumor and can't be confirmed but it was something he heard. Thought I'd pass that around here just to see what you all think.

I think McGuiness and a high profile writer would be the perfect creative team to bring back the original Alpha Flight in a new monthly title. McGuiness drew the best version of Sasquatch I have ever seen in Deadpool #1.

It'd be cool if you could back that up.
Seeing as how he's one of my favorite artists, and he got his start on (pretty much) my favorite character's book, I have a hard time accepting that. It'd make me too sad.

Give him a few more zeros on a check, I'm sure Marvel will be his favorite comic book company soon enough...

His work is really good.
It would sort of run parallel to Joe Mad's work.
Not sure if I could see him on Thor, but The Hulk would be great.

Makes sense, though I wish all these superstar artist and creators would actually work on titles that didn't really need them.
New Avengers will always sell reasonably well, but why not have McGuinnes in She-hulk or Marvel Team Up or New Thunderbolts, titles whose sales struggle?

Based on his Hawkman from Superman/Batman, I think he would make a sweet Thor. I agree about the Hulk.

whenever any creator gets signed to a deal with a company, they usually say something like that.

McGuiness working on New Avengers would be crap considering his cartoonish style. He would be more fit to be on Spidey.

But Madureira is even more cartoonish (IMO) and the previewed art for his ULTIMATES doesn't look bad...

Dude, that`s a bad comparison, Joe Mad on Ultimates is hands-down the least appropriate choice there ever has been made to be on a book. I just don`t care for cartoony artists on such important books that needs drama and so forth. My choice would be Rags Moralez, if Marvel can get their hands on him.

I've noticed you seem to often mistake sales figures with quality. Occasionally there is a correlation, but usually not. You do have a funny choice of words there, since selling "like crap" is particularly apropos when regarding Joe Mad's art.

Fans vote with their wallets, and Madureira's work sells consistantly in the over 100K range. It's obvious he does quality work by his sales figures, not a few message board fanboy's dislike of his work. Quality is in the eye of the beholder, and it's obvious that more fans like, than dislike MAD's work ;) .

You know Young Blood #1 sold awefully well too (750k is the figure floating around out there). Still want to stick to your "If it sells well, it must be good" philosophy?

As I said, quality is in the eye of the beholder. While I don't like Liefeld's Youngblood, there are 1000's that do, hence the huge sales numbers. Whether you like Madureira's art or not, Marvel made a wise choice putting him on Ultimates, because it will keep the sales above it's current 100K mark. And by the way, I prefer him over Hitch, and Hitch is awesome but Mad is awesomer(is this a word? ;) ).

So therefore, Leifeld also obviously did quality work? Or are you also admitting that you are a pathetic "message board fanboy" for daring to dislike his work in light of his obvious success.
As for fan reaction to the Joe Mad news in my store, the general consesus from my customers is "Wow, I guess it really is the 90's again." That's from the adult customers, so maybe he'll be more popular with the young ones like he was when he showed up in the mid-90s.

Let me take a wild guess and say you really became comic readers in the early to mid 90s. Not to simply categorize anyone's views or anything, but it would go along with the vibe I get from my customers.

He did solid work but these stories would have been better with a more dramatic/realistic artist. I think he trully shined when he did Battlechasers.

I am in my mid 30's and have been reading comic books since I was a teenager in the 80's, and have superb tastes in comic book art, which is why I prefer Madureira over Liefeld. But both guys do quality work, because both have 1000's of fans, and can get work in the industry whenever they want. And "again" I will type it so you can understand it, I said I don't like Liefeld's work much, but it is still "quality"(see above posts  ). Just because I or you mr.fanboy don't like it, it is still quality because 1000's of others do. So who is the fanboy? YOU, because I can distinguish the difference between quality from my own tastes, but you seem to lack the ability to do so.

You had it right the first time when you said "quality is in the eye of the beholder." Which is to say there is no such thing as quality, per se. That has been my point all along. Everybody's individual taste is completely up to them. And I wouldn't still be in business as a retailer if I couldn't separate out my own tastes. Someone earlier stated that they did not think that JoeMad is a good artist, to which you responded (as you do every time someone disagrees on the JoeMad subject) that they were definitively wrong in that belief. I posted a similarly toned response to your post, and you responded by by calling me a snobbish fanboy. Do you see any irony there yet? I do.
Thanks, and good night.

But using that "sales-equals-quality" logic, then Dan Slott's She-Hulk would be a mediocre book, quality wise, wouldn't it?
Runaways too,
And Spider-Girl would be a crappy read...

Ugh. THIS GUY: http://www.parquegotico.com/images/viene/0204/thetenth.jpg
No thanks. He's got aspirations to be Michael Turner but is much closer to Rob Leifield. Seriously getting him exclusive is not a good thing. McGuinnes is so much better than that guy it's not even funny. McGuines would be the ideal replacement on Ultimate Spidey for when Bags leaves. He did a competent job on Superman/Batman, he could do anything. Young Avengers, New Avengers, New Thunderbolts, I'm sure there are a few of us who wouldn't mind him doing Cable/Deadpool...
