ok i just started picking up the ultimate FF line of comics and so far i absolutly love it. i love the new origin love and how all the charactors actually have a charactor and not just some walking stereotype like ultimate peter parker. but the main thing that really bugs me is doctor doom and thus i ask: why? they took the greatest MU villain and butchered him. i dont mind his origin or the fact that his armor is organic, hell i wouldve lived with them changing his name, but why, out of everything they could of done, did they give him hooves?!?is there any logic behind it? and his powers are so lame. he breathes out gas and shoots metal spikes. he in no way resembles that of the MU doctor doom. the most hes got in common is that hes a genious with armor. idk maybe its just me but what do you guys think of ultimate doom.

I don't like him. I don't mind any of the changes they made to him, but the storyarc he was in just didn't appeal to be very much. Besides, if they weren't going to make unexpected changes to the characters, what's the point in having the Ultimate universe at all?

It was a necessary update, the classic Doom origin in its exact form wouldn't really fly with today's youth audience. Which isn't exactly big to begin with, but that's Marvel's target demo with the Ultimate line.

I thought Doom should have been a lot darker, but maybe that's just me. With the hooves, who knows...

Honestly, I don't see much wrong with Doom's origin. Tweak it a little and it's fine.

Doom was a ruthless child genius that eventually comes to America. Doom gets into an accident. Blames Richards. Goes into seclusion. Trains with a forgotten society of monks. Builds himself a suit of high-tech armor. Comes back and raises a revolt in his home country.

What's wrong with that?

Because they only did about 4/7 of those things you said and it wasn't written good at all. All the things you said would have been great to see but the only things they showed was, he was beaten by his father all the time for not getting the family tree right , came to America but we don't know how long he's been here and what type of things he built while he was at the Baxter Building, gets into an accident that he causes and then blames Richards for it , goes back to his country in DENMARK, builds a armor suit to kept him alive but its not high tech, and can't raise a revolt in his country because everyone at his camp walks away from him and makes him feel like a loser, and then Richards gives him a scar on his face. Yeah Doom is so cool in the Ultimate Universe, NOT, I hope some other writer comes along and destroys everything that Ellis did or fix about 90% of it. The Ultimate Universe has already stuff up my other favorite villain(Mr. Sinister), I don't want the same to happen to Doom.

I thought Ultimate Doom's armor was organic.

As far as the hooves go, I think I might be the only one who liked them. But I get the impression that Ellis gave Doom hooves because it connects the character with one of the traditional myths revolving around Satan--that he has hooves that he cannot completely disguise when he assumes human shape. I thought that tied in pretty nicely with the vampire mythos Ellis tied the character to.

No, the armor is organic in the movie, in the comic it shows him putting it on his body to kept him alive. The hooves could have been great if that was his army to start the revolt in his country, but it turns out he was mind controling all of them(like we have never seen that before ) and when Reed found out how to turn the machine off they all left him to himself. Again I hope some other writer comes along and fix this mess.

I've forgotten that scene, but I'll take your word for it.

I agree with you. Ulti-Doom was lame, stupid, and messed up. Glad I dropped the book before the Ulti-Doom arc. But Ultimate FF is pretty good right now although I'm not sure how long I'll stick with it.

I refer to Ultimate Dr. Doom as Mr. Ed. I think he's a joke, an unintended parody of the mainstream Marvel Universe Doom...

Well that's certain shorter than Count Jean Claude Van Doom, whcih is what I personally like calling the guy.

I could have sworn his armor was organic though.

The armour is definitely organic. The final scene of issue seven shows him scraping his old skin off it and talking about "mourning his old body", etc.

And I like Ultimate Dr Doom. But then again, I also like Ultimate Green Goblin. I think they may as well try these changes out since they have the chance to play around without damaging the 616 versions if it doesn't work.

I don't like UFF. Doom looked horrible, the stories are too long, and the villains and fights are barely ever there.

I agree that UF4's a good book, and that Doom was butchered. Still looking forwars to Millar's Doom arc.

Changin Doom's last name from Doom to Damme is just as silly as turning him into Mr. Ed. When Ultimate Doom comes to mind, I think of Jean Claude Van Damme.

Ooh, I didn't know he was doing a Doom arc!!! I knew about Crossover, Tomb of Namor, and President Thor. I guess his Doom arc will come after that?

Also, Ben is scheduled to get some, uh, extra action, if you get my meaning...

wait when did they show him doing that? you are talking about the ultimate doom right? cause the 616 doom had armor but the ultimate doom just showed up with metal skin

ya know the more i think about it... ultimate dooms origin is pretty dead on with the 616

in the 616 victor created a machine that would cross into the 5th dimencion or something like that and reed told him that his calculations were wrong and victor didnt listen activated the machine and it explodes yadda yadda he gets a scar yadda yadda he puts on the armor to cover his deformality

in the ultmate universe he and reed create a machine that crosses into another dimencion and reed tells him hes wrong and victor doesnt listen it blows up in his face and now hes left with organic armor and....well hooves.
either way it doesnt change the fact how horrible he was. just thought it was an interesting fact

I hate the cyborg-like metal body. It sucks. I would have him take a trip a la the FF movie but give him no powers just disfigurement. So he would be even more mad at the FF(they get powers he gets his body torned up). Something I liked about the Ultimate Doom is the connection that was made to Vlad the Impaler. I thought that was brilliant and a big shock to me.

Just checked the issue and you are right, the armor is organic, I thought he was putting the armor on his body but it does show it melting off. I think the reason I foregot about this is because I really hated the art in this story and how bad Ellis turn Doom into what he is.
