View Full Version : Mezco 18" comic version Hellboy
"They're HEEEEre" !Today I picked up the 18" comic version of Hellboy from my comic/action figure vendor. It's a beautiful scuplt and totally huge.My vendor said that the figures should be coming out next week.I loaned my digital camera to my brother,so I cannot post any pics.Hopefully, someone else picked it up and can post some photos...just wanted to let y'all know that the figure is out there.

Do you have the 18" movie Hellboy?
I'm curious about how they compare in size? The movie version is quite a bit hunched over and I wonder if this one is taller, the same or smaller in size. I have this shelf where the movie 18" barely fits and it'd be great to get some indication on how they compare.

Good news. Can't wait to pick this up, as well as the other figs, but I know it'll be a while.

Hey Jakob-Yes I do have the 18" movie version also and the comic version is exactly the same size...porportional-wise the comic version is bigger in all respects.bigger head /RHOD/Samaritan/horse shoe. The pouches on the belt are formed plastic.the belt and holster are faux-leather.The only thing that seems to be the same as the movie version is the cross. The comic version is painted grey instead of the brown color on the movie version. The box itself is pretty cool,on the top of the box it says"Packaging art by:Mike Mignola".The inside of the box has the figure surrounded by Mignola color-washed zombies. It's cool! Cannot wait for the other figures!
Sorry Jakob...forgot to describe jacket...it's cloth with the clover patch and BPRD patch ironed on.One thing i noticed...I don't think your going to be able to take the jacket off, unless you can take off the RHOD. I haven't taken out of the packaging yet because I'm debating whether or not to get it signed by Mike next weekend

Thanks for the alert, Gdeo! I picked one up today. It makes me so happy! This is a good figure. Kind of the Hellboy figure I've always been waiting for. Solid. Very, very solid. And a GREAT sculpt. Which one did you get, Gdeo, the one with the open mouth and teeth or the closed mouth? It was very hard for me to decide. The teeth are so perfectly Mignola and looked good, but ultimately I thought he looked too angry with the open mouth and opted for the closed one. Plus, that's the sculpt I've been salivating over since the Toy Review cover. But as much as I feel that in some ways, TWO eighteen inch Hellboy figures is too many (I also have the movie one), I also feel a strong temptation to buy both versions... which I must RESIST!!!

Where the deuce are you people getting these!!? I would assume local comic shops, but it's unusual for comic shops to be getting figures so late in the week (with GDEO reporting his haul late last week and BRISCO reporting his on a Monday). Very strange to me folks
It must be a C-O-N spiracy :)

Hey Brisco-I bought the closed mouth one,it seemed classic to me.I would love all three version but I don't have the extra $ or space for that matter.I did order the Diamond exclusive battle damaged 18",just because I have both the regular and battle-damaged 18" movie versions.

Hey Stygian- the shipment came in last Weds. but I wasn't able to pick it up until Sat.
By the way side by side ,toe to toe,...comic book 18" would kick the crap out of the 18" movie version

Thanks, GDEO. I'm actually anticipating the smaller figures much more than the larger sized 18", but I have no doubt that I'd at least like to take a look at him up close and personal.
Thanks for the info! :D

Awesome!
If anyone could snap a similar photo of the 18 inchers that'd be great!

I'm not normally a fan of the 18 figure size, but when you see this one, Stygian, I think you'll agree that it's a PERFECT size for this particular figure. It's just so bulky and solid... It's perfect.
To answer your earlier question, for some reason my local store got them in on Monday. I wouldn't have thought to check so early in the week were it not for Gdeo's post. (Thanks, pal!) But I arrived a few hours after the Hellboys did, and I'm glad I did, because by today (Wednesday) they were all sold out.

Its size makes it feel more like a hellboy garden gnome than an action figure.
"Hellboy Garden Gnome"
Man, if that isn't a merchandising opportunity. That beats the hinge head! Think of a whole line of stone figures, Hellboy, Dagda and the gang from faerie and Hecate peeking out from between the vinca and impatiens. Most excellent.

Here is a review: (http://www.azogscollection.com/index.php?subaction=showfull&id=1127711122&archive=&start_from=&ucat=18&) with some pretty amazing pictures!
Question:
if I order it from the www.killertoys.com, it will cost me some $90 plus customs (I'm in European Union). Is there a cheaper place?
I'm almost ready to swap it with the copy of my Hellboy bust if there is someone interested about it...

I just want to send out a thank you to all of those on this Messageboard who turned me onto this figure. I picked one up this afternoon at the local Virgin Megastore and couldn't be happier! It's like seeing a panel of the comic come to life, I'm not kidding! Granted, you'd need just the right lighting to capture that bathed in darkness look, but all of the trappings are there (i.e.- brown duster, craggy gun, cross with rosary beads, beat up gun holster, etc.). Even the signature look on HB's face is something that I'd liken to having appeared in "name the issue" of Hellboy the comic.
Also, the mobility for a figure this size is incredible! The legs and arms move via sockets, rather than as molded pieces just snapped into each other and rotated like old style plastic baby dolls (not that I ever played with baby dolls mind you). The coup de grace though, is the fact that HB's head swivels on a ball joint and the RHOD does the same thing at the wrist! I guess that would be two coup de grace's, which would then negate there actually being a coup de grace, but hopefully you catch my meaning anyway :)
Thanks again people!
Enjoy it Stygian!!!I had Mike sign mine on Sat.

Well I'd agree with you, if it weren't for the fact that at least 3 different Online toy merchants that I know of; including TFAW, CornerStoreComics, and BigBadToyStore, have been selling them all week :) I don't mean to argue semantics or seem like a jerk, but I would consider those to be specialty shops. Am I wrong here people? :o

Well, I know my comic shop hasn't got them yet and the guy that used to run it told me Tower gets its toys through Diamond. From that we concluded that Diamond gives preferential treatment to larger customers based on volume. I would guess that some on-line retailers fit this category.
So lets say low volume specialty shops haven't got them yet. :D
Which means I haven't got them yet.
And in the end that's all that matters. :p

Got mine today and it is SWEET! This is truely the Hellboy of Mike's creation. I especially like how they did the Samaritan...back to basic "boom tube with handle." Also interesting to finally see how the whole belt, shorts, tail combo works together on a wardrobe sense! Sadly, this one has the same problem as my Big Blast figure...it enjoys more time on its back than standing. Something to do with those wee feet and huge upper torso and hand. I finally had to resort to using the tail to tripod him.
And unless that RHoD comes off, there is no getting that jacket off...in one piece.
Still...I love the figure and Mezco hit another home run here.

I picked up the 7" version of HB with the bottom row of teeth showing (clenched teeth version I believe) over the weekend at a local Suncoast store. I can't sing the praises of these figures enough! It's almost eery sometimes how much like Mike's artwork they look (depending on the pose and the lighting)!
Run out and buy the whole set while you still can kids! Great stuff :D
