Is anybody else loving this series as much as I am? Lapham is a fantastic writer. Not many people write realistic, gritty people as well as he does. And it's amazing to see his art in such an action based comic still be so strong, especially since people mostly just talk in Stray Bullets (which is still an awesome book). Loved the fight in issue 4 between DD and the Punisher. Tough, and if left me anxiously waiting the next issue. Thoughts on this anybody?

You're not the only one loving it.

I was kinda thinking the series might be nothing more than a retread of all their other confrontations, but given Lapham was involved, I decided to give it a try.

I'm glad I did.

Aside from the action the title implies, which has been intense and very well choreographed, he's treated both characters with respect and depth. He's also sprinkled unique insights into their rivalry throughout their internal monologues and actions, stuff never really touched upon before.

Even better, he's slowly pushed the anatagonism between them forward in ways that've only been hinted at before, until it hit a new peak with the latest issue. I'm really interested to see what the ramifications will be.

I'm really looking forward to the next issue.

Oh.

Oh, boy.

Not enough words to say how much I love this book.

I will just say this:

Wow.

Bushwacker is cool now.

Again, wow.

Simply:
Punisher done right.
A heavily needed break from Ennis' monotonous take on Frank.

For all I care Lapham could take over the Punisher permanently.

Monotheistic? I would have thought of Ennis' Punisher as more of an atheist.

Which is another way of saying what the hell are you talking about?

Klaatu barata... no wait....

Actually I was looking for "monotonic/monotonous".
Yeah. Making easy things complicated. Shame on me. -_-O

Am enjoying this series...an old-school take on big ol' Frank, something that I don't have a lot of experience with...am really enjoying the story, and love Frank's expression when he accidently shot the homeless guy....

But if I could only have one....would rather kep Ennis' Max line......

I got it, & dropped it after the 3rd ish. Dont like it, at all. Dont like the writers take on either Frank or Matt. Also, I cant stand Bushwacker. Just a stupid 90's character. While I'm on a roll, cant say I care much for the art either. There, now I'm done. ;)

I love Lapham take on the classic versions of Daredevil and Punisher. My singular gripe with the story has to do with the villains of this story. I realize that Frank, by his nature doesn’t really have a rouge gallery, but we could have done a lot better than Hammer Head and the green guy. I think Jigsaw and the Kingpin would have worked much better and both characters are still around in the Marvel Universe as evidenced by recent story arcs in Daredevil.

I think what stopping your enjoyment of this book is the fact that you are reading the pre Ennis and Bendis version of Matt and Frank. This book is much more enjoyable if you look at as retrospective or year one story.

I like the series but I cannot find any of the issues anymore. The comic store that I go to never has them so we have like the first two and they are great but I have not been able to find any of the others. I dont even know how far the series is along.

This is the first time I've been intrested in Daredevil since Karl Kesel was writting him.

I don't really think there's anything very different between Lapham and Bendis's versions of Daredevil in personality, although Lapham's Punisher is closer to Grant's than to Ennis's.

A few spoilers regarding Bendis run on Daredevil......................................... .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .........................................Lapham Daredevil is more in step with Matt before Karen Page’s death. This Daredevil isn’t in the middle of the biggest nervous breakdown ever. He has his head on straight and isn’t in the process of self-destructing or going throgh an identity crisis.

Well, the "nervous breakdown" Matt was going through under Bendis is much more subtle than, say, the one Matt went through under Miller in Born Again.

Matt wasn't so much self-destructing in Bendis's run, as he's become much more pro-active and aggressive in response to incredible pressure--maybe to too much of a degree, which sometimes has led to a bad decision or two (like perhaps marrying Mila too hastily).

Also worth remembering, this is supposed to take place during the beginning of Bendis Daredevil's lost year, right after he took down the Kingpin and was enjoying a remarkable amount of re-energized self-confidence and success.
