After reading The Pulse #11 yesterday I couldn't help but wonder:
"Who the hell is Demolition Man?"
His costume is a cross between Daredevil's old yellow one and Wolverine's cowl. Apparently he has ties to the Avengers, and he used to be a wrestler. Did Bendis just whip this guy up, or did he actually appear in Avengers at some point back in the day? Who is he and whats his story?

He first appeared as a supporting character in the old THING series, during the time that the Thing was a professional wrestler. D-Man, like many of the other wrestlers there, ended up getting superhuman strength from the Power Broker.
Later, he became a supporting character in the CAPTAIN AMERICA series, and became one of Cap's partners.
After the Avengers disbanded (just before the "Inferno" crossover in 1989), Cap was assembling a new team, and D-Man was his first recruit (In CAP #349), but on his first mission as an Avenger, D-Man was caught in an exploding quinjet and was missing and presumed dead.
Many months later he turned up alive, and eventually he got involved with an underground society of homeless people called Zerotown.
He was last seen in AVENGERS vol3 #1-4 (the first Busiek/Perez arc) when everyone who was ever an Avenger was assembled for a mission. This was the first time most of the Avengers ever met D-Man, and they were shocked that this smelly, flilthy homeless guy was actually an Avenger (but he proved his worth by the end of it).

I'm a little bit surprised that Ben didn't know him.
One would think that he should know somebody running around in DD's old costume.
And another question that remains if this will be D-Man's final appearance or if Bendis actually manages to finish this storyline without killing him.

This guy showing up in Pulse was too funny. Him taking down the bad guys, getting tired and asking for a drink of water was priceless. Though he may have done all that to distract the attention of the shop owner.
The thing I liked was, if you look at the fight scene, it is clear D-Man is (or was) a Professional Wrestler.
The moves throws are standard Wrestling moves. I liked that touch.

What was most notable about Pulse I thought was....well, is this the first time a character's water's broke on panel?!?

Oh! Demolition, demolition
Demolition, demolition
Tied to the tracks and the train's fast coming
Strapped to the wing with the engine running
You say that this wasn't in your plan
And don't mess around with the demolition man
Tied to a chair, and the bomb is ticking
This situation was not of your picking
You say that this wasn't in your plan
And don't mess around with the demolition man
I'm a walking nightmare, an arsenal of doom
I kill conversation as I walk into the room
I'm a three line whip, I'm the sort of thing they ban
I'm a walking disaster, I'm a demolition man
Demolition, demolition
Demolition, demolition
You come to me like a moth to the flame
It's love you need but I don't play that game
'Cause you could be my greatest fan
But I'm nobody's friend, I'm a demolition man
I'm a walking nightmare, an arsenal of doom
I kill conversation as I walk into the room
I'm a three line whip, I'm the sort of thing they ban
I'm a walking disaster, I'm a demolition man
Demolition, demolition
Demolition, demolition
Tied to the tracks and the train's fast coming

And don't mess around with the demolition man
Tied to a chair, and the bomb is ticking

And don't mess around with the demolition man

D-man was in Pulse. Cool.
Can you tell me what he was doing in it?
Put what you say in spoiler tags so not to spoil anyone. The spoiler tag look like this:
[ spoil ] *writing goes here* [ /spoil ]
Just without the spaces in the main tag parts.

He stopped a robbery but then is later accused by the storeowners of stealing some items that had been sitting out while he had been there.

D-Man never really got much public attention--most of the Avengers had never even heard of him before Avengers vol3 #1, and he was a member!

Yeah, that is a good question. But Bendis has said that he is trying to put an end to his killing spree for a while, so that might be good news for Dennis.

Yeah, but we're talking about Ben Urich! ;)

Technically, it was off-panel. I was surprised that "splick" is the proper sound effect for said event, though.

A homeless super-hero huh? Pretty cool. I mean not cool that he's homeless of course, but cool that such a character exists in the Marvel Universe.
A character that not only has to struggle with the life of a costumed super hero but probably has to struggle with meeting the basic necessities of life as well. I'm looking forward to seeing where Bendis is going with him.
So I'm just curious, is there a reason his costume is an amalgamation of Daredevil's old one and Wolverines?

d-man has always been a bit of a joke in the marvel universe but i personally love the guy, he has character and depth. i wrote a letter in to captain america when dan jugens wrote it, ( and got printed) and i asked him to bring the guy back then.

I can take Demolition Man way more seriously when he's not called "D-Man."
It's so lame.
"Who's that guy?"
"He's Da Man!"

Best Demolition Man Panel Ever:
Back in the Avengers Vol 3 I think.
CAn't remember what issue (i know great start of describing the scene huh?).
But they had a meeting with nearly all the current Avengers and on call Avengers (this is while Sandman was good).
It was in a conference room with Cap or Ironman speaking at the front. Demolition Man was sitting right in the middle with everyone else at least 4 seat away from him.
Brilliant.
Er...sorry for the bad description, I don't have the issue to hand.

I don’t think he’s meant to be taken overly seriously. But he’s not really a complete joke either.
Personally I love D-Man. He’s a stand up guy. I don’t think he really sets out to be flashy or anything like that, he just wants to do whatever good he can wherever he can, living among and being champion to a bunch of bums was a personal choice not a circumstance. He’s not particularly judgmental or elitist and doesn’t seem to have much grasp for either concept. Take a look at his brief stint with the Avengers, Cap’s pretty much the only one to treat him as an equal. He’s just a straight forward, good-natured guy(which kind of makes me wonder how he made it as a professional wrestler), of a sort we don’t really get to read about very much.

That was in Issue 1 of vol.3; and i agree, that was one of the funniest Avengers moments ever, I think in the same issue Hercules says something about D-man not touching him cause he smells (I'm paraphrasing a bit here). Man, even the Avengers have no love fot D-Man
