The second printing of Supergirl was a sketch cover. Not interested. I have the two versions of the 1st printing.

I WANT the 3rd printing of Supergirl #1 which my shop didn't get.

I LOVE that cover. It's worth $3 to me. It's FUNNY!

Which of course begs the question why he choose to adopt an ugly and garish style. I'm still not a big fan of the costume, but it looks far better on this cover than any of the other illustrations he's done.

WTF? Why are people buying variant covers when there are dozens of great titles out there that so many people haven't heard of, yet are easily more deserving of comic buyers' dollars than an extra copy of something you've already bought (in most cases, I'm referring specifically to Patrick G's comment about owning two and wanting to buy a third).

hmmm ... i see the newsarama article linked says churchill's new cover is an homage to the classic cover of adventure 252. wonder what variety of learning disability would make one misspell a-c-t-i-o-n in that fashion ...

Cool cover. I'm a sucker for this kind of thing. I'm still not buying the comic, mind you, but I am genuinely impressed with the cover.

I want this title to succeed. I'm also willing to pay $3 for a cover.

I'd pay $3 for JUST the cover of the third printing on this book. The fact that it's got another copy of the interior is nice. I may eventually give out the other copies or have them bound.

I'm not overwhelmed by titles I want to buy right now but I am overwhelmed with my desire for this book to succeed. I hope it goes into a 4th printing.

Wait... why do you want this one to succeed so badly? Hell, it was number 6 on the top 300 for August. I don't mean to criticize your taste, that's not my intent, but this is reminiscient of HEAT members buying multiple copies of Green Lantern: Rebirth for no real reason.

I mean, there's a ton of great titles out there that I'm sure you read that most likely need the support much much more before they get axed.

I hate when they release multiple covers because if I'm not careful I can accidentally buy the same comic twice.

which is their intent.

Found it... Yep its Action 252, not Adventures. Great tribute piece. This is the best Churchill stuff I've seen.

It's a shame the interiors aren't like cover.

I cringe every time I hear the modern perversion of begging the question.

An attempt to answer the question: possibly because he sees it as an "awesomely badical" style.

I could see myself buying the book if the art was always like this cover.

.

For no real reason other than liking the book and/or the character and wanting it to last, seeing how nowadays comic books that don't feature Supes, Bats, Spidey or Wolverine have such a hard time surviving?
That reason is real enough for me.
I will probably buy multiple copies of the upcoming Spider-Woman book,(and I hope mant of her fans do the same) just because hopefully that will help sales...

I've only bought 3-4 comics for their cover.

Thundercats #0 (badass cover)
DW Transformers (Shiny cover)

Are the only two I can remember...

I'm not gonna buy 2-3 copies of the same comic just for the cover. Even if the characters book needs help in the sales dept. It's not worth it...

Okay, first of all, the characters on that cover are lightboxed. The proportions and everything from the original cover are SO CLOSELY followed.

Second, imitating styles is easy.

I could do a fake Curt Swan comic tomorrow, even with my limited artistic skills.

Outside of an homage, like this, the ethics of immitation are questionable.

Third, it's still a snazzy new background.

And I love how the existing dialogue/cover copy takes on new meaning here.

Batman DOESN'T believe in her. And "Is she friend or foe?" is something that the original comic never really addressed but Jeph Loeb took and ran with.

I did some sketches years ago where I took classic WORLD'S FINEST covers and redrew them Ed McGuiness style.

I also once planned a hoax to reveal (ala Sentry's Hoax) that Triumph was an original member of the JLA by using manipulated Sekowsky art.

This isn't rocket science but it is fun art.

Don't you read stuff that's on the bubble though? Anything? I don't know... Runaways, She-Hulk, anything that actually needs those extra sales, rather than a title that gets tons of hype, publicity in Wizard and on every website known to man and is guaranteed to do well?

Good find. I'm impressed. I think I'll buy the cover even though I have 3 Supergirl #1s. It's too cool to pass.
