AP kinda messed this one up.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050913/ap_on_re_us/caged_children
Just in case they change it, the story is about a bunch of adoptive kids kept in cages. The headline is Neighbors Say Kids Found in Cages Polite

Not in Rita's, Marvel, Games or the Rumbles forum

Child abusers remind me of Korn too, but for much less obvious reasons.

Honestly, this one, which was in the slideshow for the story, is worse.

It's not so much that, just kind of editorializing.

So, we're not supposed to make our kids sleep in cages?
*sigh* I guess I have to go buy Katie a bed.

That is a creepy picture. It would be a good cover for a horror book a book filled with depressing poems.

Remember how someone said they were going to blame a psychiatrist?
The Gravelles have said a psychiatrist recommended they make the children sleep in the cages

Wasn't there a villian in a movie or such recently with flesh-eating pigs?
And that is a silly headline.
I think one other thing that makes the first photo, with the teddy bear, subliminally creepy is the triangle shape in the background, so you get a Blair Witch vibe too.

Hannibal. Or rather, the guy Lecter didn't kill who was looking to get revenge on him with man-eating pigs. That and Deadwood, the Celestials with their pigs that eat up the corpses.
And the creepy picture, while it may also be editorializing somewhat, at least tells the story well. The pig picture, that's just straight up editorializing through photos. Not that I fault the photographer, more the editor for picking that as one of the five shots they used.

Nah, that doesn't make any sense. Dr. K was all about ending suffering. He would have just had the kids gassed or something.

You think THEY'RE going to hell? I'm finding myself having a hard time getting too worked up over it, without getting more info.
What were the three-dimensions of the "cage"? They weren't locked, merely monitored?
I mean they sound more like cribs with lids (something that you can buy as a parent, btw).
I would personally find filthy bedding to be more objectionable.
No, I don't like the idea of cages. Dumb idea.
But not exactly wicked stepmother bad, either.

You're not reading hard enough.

I have to check, but the exact dimensions were about big enough for a small child to sit in.

Locked, alarmed, and in one case, had a bookcase pushed in front.
I would personally find filthy bedding to be more objectionable.
Which was there.
No, I don't like the idea of cages. Dumb idea.
If yet not equiped to handle kids with issues- here's an idea DON'T FOSTER THEM!
But not exactly wicked stepmother bad, either.
Remember, these people took kids from the State in return for a check and then apparantly didn't bother to take care of them properly.
I'm waiting to see more,l but my initial response is that, at the very least, they deserve a chiding.

I do have issue with the dresser in front of one. Was it set in a fashion to keep the kid held in? If a fire broke out... and the kids ranged from 1-11? What age were the ones in there? How well are they ventilated? and WTF is with the soiled bedding?

3 1/2 feet tall, 3 1/2 feet deep. An average 5 year-old can stand upright. How wide? Important third dimension. Can a 10 year-old stretch out in bed? They could if it was say 5 feet wide, eh?
Locked, alarmed, and in one case, had a bookcase pushed in front.
I don't understand the bookcase thing either, but I don't see "locked" in there anywhere. As far as the bookcase goes, why have a bookcase in front of an empty "cage?" Wouldn't that be an imposition to move to put the child in move to get the child out, move back in front after the child is out, etc.?
Remember, these people took kids from the State in return for a check and then apparantly didn't bother to take care of them properly.
I'm having some small problems with the cage idea, too, but I'm also seeing that the kids were given pretty decent care aside from that.

Well, if he WAS sadistic, them alarms would gas them the moment they tried to leave.
