View Full Version : Don't Forget... (Mezco HB comic line)

Don't forget to Pre-Order those wonderful HB comic series action figures from Mezco, folks. I'm sure they have plenty of sets left for order (and yes, they are currently only selling the figures as sets), but you never know when those supplies might run out. Granted, $65.00 plus s/h isn't exactly something the average college student can probably afford to plunk down for action figures, but those of us with more "disposable income" need to get to orderin' and pronto! :D
Just in case ya need the link:

Normally I'm not a schill for any particular company and their product, but I'd like to see these HB comic figures last for at least a few series worth before peetering out. Especially since we have yet to see an Abe Sapien in the HB comic version.
It looks to me, based on general HB fan response on the Messageboard here, that it will be mostly action figure purists buying these from Mezco directly via cases and sets). I'm sure Messageboard people will purchase a figure here and there, but I doubt most will be picking up cases or sets of these. I guess time will tell.

I love Mezco. Their Warrior set rocks, but with all things I pick and choose the ones I want. I never have just bought a case of figs.
Even with Star Wars, I only buy astromech droids and rebel pilots.

I'm hoping I have money in time as I'd love to pick up the whole set of these. Are these not gonna be in the stores? I'm sure it's been discussed, but my brain's fried due to finals week.

Yes, almost certainly the figures will be in stores (i.e.- Sam Goody, comic shops, Suncoast, and other specialty stores).
Just as an aside, I will most likely be parting with my regular version Hellboy and LoJo figures, so I will probably be offering those up to board members first before hitting up eBay or a similiar auction site.

Styg, you would be getting rid of them? Are they the same sculpts/boxes/figures as what's in the set? It would make sense if they were to try to get rid of them in that case. Did you get the Ghost of Lojo that was at the conventions?

Skinny, I'd be getting rid of the HB comic figures (most likely, depending on how I feel once the set arrives) LoJo and the regular version of HB. I ordered the Exclusive HB (the one that comes with the jacket) before I ordered the set and don't necessarily need two HB's. Also, I did in fact pickup the Ghost of LoJo figure at SDCC, so I don't feel that I need two version of LoJo.
Of course, as mentioned, whether or not I choose to part with those two figures will depend on how they look once I see them in person. I really like the regular LoJo version at SDCC, so I may be swayed to hold onto him.
Hope this answers your questions, Skinny :)

Thanks for the heads up Stygian, I ordered the set of 4, even though I can't afford it, it's a lot cheaper than getting them individually and I knew I'd wind up getting em anyway. And I ordered through killertoys as well, which took about $20 off the bill. Hopefully that's a good company. I'd not heard of em before.
Now the wait begins in earnest! :D

Hey, glad my information helped you along your way :) I've never purchased through Killer Toys before either, but I'm pretty sure you're in good hands, as their name gets floated around the internet quite a bit by action figure collectors as being a good company to purchase from.

I found them at Virgin today. Unfortunately they were already sold out of the one I was looking forward to the most, Kriegaffe and Von Klempt. Oh well, I'm sure I'll find the big gorilla eventually. I got everything else though. I opted for the open mouth and lower teeth versions of HB, but not the closed mouth one since I've already preordered the Mezco exclusive and that one comes that way. I've only opened on Hellboy and he seems to be just as good as I was expecting. I think I actually prefer my Ghost of Lobster Johnson from Comicon, which is too bad since his leg broke off. :(

Yeah, I have to admit, Liz is much better in person than those first shots online led us to believe. I'm still not crazy about her eyes, but overall she's a good figure. Having opened the regular Lobster now, I definitely do prefer the ghost version, which surprises me. Lojo's face doesn't really work with the sculpted in "Mignola lines." Makes him look like he's got a face full of scars. I'm glad they didn't do that with Liz. And for Hellboy it works great, but his head ain't human.

Brisco, sorry to hear that the leg broke off of your Ghost of LoJo figure. If you ever check out the Mezco Forum, this subject has been discussed at length on several occasions. Something to do with inferior materials during production, Mezco rep's mentioned. However, if you contact their customer service dept., there is a chance they'll most likely replace your broken one.
Just a thought :)

Good to know. I was really disapointed today when I opened the Hellboy I bought at the convention today. I hardly touched the arm and it broke off at the bicep. Upon further inspection I found that he also has two of the same foot!
I'll be e-mailing Mezco tonight.

Does anyone think that we'll get Von Klempt's fake body down the line to put the head-in-a-jar into? That would be cool.
My Jack Skellington figure by NECA had a broken joint and they sent me a new one.

In a recent online Poll conducted over at the Mezco Mezzageboard, the figure you just mentioned scored about 5th place behind Rasputin, Unmensch, Kroenen, and Ilsa Haupstein. In other words, he's wasn't as popular a choice as I would have liked, but still within the top 5 most saught after.
As far as what that bodes for Mezco's decision making process, well, that's anyone's guess. :o

Whoa! That completely sucks. Hopefully you won't write off the entire line because of one bad assembly job at the factory in China and brittle joint though, right? :o In general, these figures are absolutely some of the best that I've had the pleasure of owning. Sorry that you experience wasn't so positive.

Stygian,
I don't have much of a budget for this type of product. I really enjoy the sculpts in this line. I am disapointed to have one of the only figures I get to break & be misassembled.
I was up in the air on Liz & VonKlepmt & friend....line 2 I like the alien the best...and might get that one as well.
I think chances of a 'write-off' depend entirely on the response I get from Mezco. Even though I didn't buy it directly from them, the least I hope they could do is discount my next purchase..and the most I could hope for is a new figure (ie I'm not looking for cash back or an exclusive...just an intact replacement of the figure they probably made the most of)

Good luck, Petersen. I contacted Mezco a few months ago after finding that one of the movie Hellboy figures my girlfriend got me off of eBay was missing his tail . The best that they could offer was to return it to the place it was purchased and that they had no spare parts on hand. Given your situation is a bit different, I hope you get some satisfaction.

1. Shouldn't HB be a leetle taller than LJ and Liz? I mean, Kriegaffe #10 is taller than the rest, so why can't Hellboy be? He looks like he's only a couple inches taller than she is.
2. The accessories are mostly useless--the walkie-talkie doesn't fit in HB's hand (or in the empty gun holder, for that matter), the hole in Liz's hand isn't big enough to securely insert the flames, the backpack won't fit over her sleeves, and her cigarette is M.I.A. already because it doesn't really fit securely between her fingers and has fallen out somewhere (argh!).
3. I don't like the black paint in the creases in HB's face. I would like the creases better without the artificial shading. (But I do like the "sculptural" quality of LJ's face--I think he looks great.)
Pretty minor complaints, really. On the whole, I think these figures are beauties.

But a few minor complaints can add up to a lot. :)
Regarding #2; the cigarette actually DOES fit quite nicely between the index and forefinger of the right hand with a little adjusting. It's really not that hard(or at least it wasn't for me). Also, the backpack straps are removeable from the main part of the backpack where the straps connect to those two pouches on either side. The two straps are designed to pop off and then be reattached once the backpack is slipped on.
Sounds like overall you enjoy the figures, but it also sounds like your expectations may have been a bit high in a few places. You're entitled to your opinion though, just as I am mine.

LOL, I hadda really jam that smoke between her fingers and now it's gone so I guess I didn't jam it hard enough! ;) And I didn't even notice that the straps come off the knapsack, haha! Thanks for the tip! :D
One of the details I like the most about 'em is the skinny Mignola wrists. Those are great with the big gloves on Liz's and LJ's hands!

Keep trying them Petersen. It may take several emails and or you may be getting a delayed reaction currently. I know Mezco is currently filling orders like crazy for the Hellboy stuff, so they may just be behind a bit right now.
You can also try posting your comments on the Mezco Mezzageboard, as some of the Mezco employees post there quite often, and can probably get you hooked up. Although, I'm not sure what can be done about an HB purchased at a convention, it's at least worth the effort to ask someone.
Good luck!

Mostly because product, once it's left the hands of Mezco itself (outside of Mezco Direct, their Online store of course), becomes the sole responsibility of the seller to compensate the customer if there are problems or issues (i.e.- refunds, exchanges, etc.). Now in this case, where the manufacturer screwed up and gave the figure two left feet, well that's a little bit more of a gray area.
Personally, I'd save up my money for a few weeks (or however long it takes) until I had the $15 bucks and just buy another. I know that's not the preferred, but at least the figures are reasonably priced enough to where you aren't out hundreds of dollars with another purchase. Just food for thought.

The figure has two left feet, Mezco should replace it. I'm watching for Petersen's replies closely because something like this makes a big difference to me. If they just ignore it, I'm going to be alot less likely to still support their lines. Now I'm not the biggest toy buyer, but I'm a member of Mezco's club, I'm picking up all their Hellboy comic line, bought their exclusive figs, and have spent a crapload on thier Warriors line. Hopefully they'll do the right thing.
I had a Art Asylum flash minimate break a knee joint about 6 months ago. It was because of a bad paint aplication. I emailed them and in two days I had a brand new mini-fig in my mailbox. Better believe that it inspired loyalty.

I guess the way I look at it, when it's a manufacturer's mistake, I think they are ultimately responsible. I mean, the convention vendor didn't open the package, switch out the feet and reseal the package--that HB came out of the Mezco factory that way.

Hence the phrase "grey area" in my last post Pam Cakes. :D
I'm honestly not sure what if anything Mezco would or can do in this situation. I've spent time on their Messageboard and whenever this topic comes up, people are usually referred to the place where they purchased the figure. This applies to broken feet, broken tails, and other manufacturers defects and or issues.
