As always there's some good comics coming out this week:

All Star Batman & Robin #2 - I havent read #1 yet, and I'm not particuarly looking forward to it due to the lackluster reviews. I hope this is good, its always such a disappointment when a Miller book isnt.

Hawkman #44 - This book is really excellent right now. Great story about Hawkman dying and (I guess) being reincarnated, and Joe Bennett's pencils have made me into a major fan of his.

Nightwing #112 - Hester and Parks = a purchase!

Rann/Thanagar War #5

Matador #5 (Wildstorm) - I've really enjoyed every issue of this except #1 , which I thought was weak. I'm glad that I've kept buying.

Daredevil vrs. Punisher #4 - This has been fun. Very old school, but in a good way. Lapham's pencils are very rough, and remind me of comics from the 80's. In a good way. :)

Thunderbolts #12 - I'm behind on this and looking forward to catching up ASAP.

Pulse #11 - Is this the return of Michael Gaydos? If so then I'm buying it.

Thor Blood Oath #1 - I'm very much looking forward to Scott Kollins art, but not Oeming's scripting which I think leaves a lot to be desired.

Wow, just DC and Marvel this week, not one "indie-ish" book.

Another one-comic week for me, which is fine because if the rumours from DHC are in any way accurate Samurai Executioner is FINALLY shipping next week :)

Oh, and the Star Wars comics are so backlogged that I will be getting at least one a week until Christmas.

Buying:

STAR WARS EMPIRE #34

Waiting for Trade:

JMS is talking about releasing a 15 volume set of books collecting all his BABYLON 5 scripts. I'm such a sucker for that show, I'm seriously considering it. Yet, I'm also working hard these days at not justifying prices on books unless I'm sure I'll have the time to read them. So it looks like I'll be dropping more comics.

Then, this week happens. It's another big week. That ABSOLUTE HUSH volume doesn't help the pocketbook any, either.

UGH UGH UGH

Why must there be so much good stuff out there to read? And why must I work 40 hours a week? It's a horrible cycle: I can't afford the reading material unless I work. I can't read the reading material because I'm working.

Excuse me -- the lottery is up to 200 million dollars tonight. I need to go buy a copious amount of tickets.

JUL050292 WINTER MEN #2 (OF 8) (MR) $2.99
I liked the first issue. Good realistic feel and look for the post-communist Russian setting, good lead character, interesting mystery setup.

JUN052659 SALAMANDER DREAM GN $15.00
Really nifty looking book. See here (http://www.secretfriendsociety.com/).

JUN052922 STRONGHOLD #1 (OF 3) $4.95
Possibly.

JUL053011 YOU AIN'T NO DANCER VOL 1 GN (MR) $5.95
I hadn't heard of this before, but it was pointed out to me. Really nice-looking indie anthology with a good lineup of creators. See here (http://www.youaintnodancer.com/). The problem is that my local store almost surely didn't order it; but, if I see it somewhere else I'll likely give it a go.

I'm still undecided about whether or not I'm going to visit my LCS this week...

DC COMICS
ALL STAR BATMAN AND ROBIN THE BOY WONDER #2 $2.99
First issue was OK.
NIGHTWING #112 $2.50
Are Hester & Parks back this with this issue?

IMAGE
RONIN HOOD OF THE 47 SAMURAI GN $9.99
Missed the FCBD issue, but I pre-ordered this because it contains Craig Rousseau art!

MARVEL
GRAVITY #4 (OF 5) $2.99
One of Marvel's better books. McKeever/Norton deserve an ongoing series!

Man, you and my wife! Screw you--we need the money. She already has plans for that cash.

Oh, and picking up FRANKLIN RICHARDS!!!

Such a shill.

ACTION COMICS #831 $2.50
Following her career since KILLER PRINCESSES, I never would've pictured Gail Simone on something like SUPERMAN, yet here she is doing a phenominal job! Right up there with Greg Rucka's incredible work on ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN!
ALL STAR BATMAN AND ROBIN THE BOY WONDER #2 $2.99
Frank Miller and Jim Lee's top-selling run continues! Re-examining the origins of Dick Grayson and his partnership with the Batman.
BATMAN LEGENDS OF THE DARK KNIGHT #195 $2.50
Seth Fisher is SUCH an amazing artist!! I'm not totally sold on the story, as I have some problems with the premise and execution of the writing... but the art is absolutely wonderful! Penultimate issue of this 5 part arc!
FABLES #41 (MR) $2.75
41 issues and still SOOOO fantastic!!! Loving this examination into the origins of The Adversary.
GREEN ARROW #54 $2.50
Winick's back! Yaaaaay! Very happy to get back into the storyline at hand, after last issue's interruption (I really really REALLY did not like last issue). Part 1 of Green Arrow's rematch with Dr. Light!
HAWKMAN #44 $2.50
SO COOL!!!!
JLA #118 $2.50
The penultimate issue of "Crisis Counceling!" The League once again votes wether or not to mindwipe the Secret Society of Super-Villains and Zatanna makes a fateful decision!
MATADOR #5 (OF 6) $2.99
Penultimate issue! (I get to say that a lot this week) This has been VERY VERY enjoyable for both Devin Grayson's efforts and (especially) Brian Stelfreeze! Very interested to see where this bizarre cop/mob drama goes with one issue left.
NIGHTWING #112 $2.50
More from Devin Grayson! Dick Grayson in the Society?!!
GRAVITY #4 (OF 5) $2.99
Penultimate issue of this WONDERFUL series, introducing a new "every man" hero in the Mighty Marvel tradition! Sean McKeever ROCKS!!!
MARVEL KNIGHTS 4 #22 $2.99
I really really enjoy this series. This issue: A murder mystery on Yancy Street! Starring Jessica Jones, Ben Urich and the Ever Lovin' Blue-Eyed Thing!
MEGA MORPHS #3 (OF 4) $2.99
Enjoying this silly-ish toy line tie-in way more than I probably should, but hey, that's just the magic of Sean McKeever I guess!
PULSE #11 $2.99
BENDIS!! At last! The birth of Jessica Jones' baby! Plus, the return of ALIAS artist Michael Gaydos and Luke Cage begins the search for a new costume!
SPIDER-MAN UNLIMITED #11 $2.99
Upcoming SPIDER-WOMAN: ORIGIN co-writer and ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN video game designer Brian Reed write a Spidey/Hulk battle drawn by Michael Lark! Former FLASH artist Alberto Dose (wondered what happened to him) returns to draw a Spidey tale featuring the Thing and the Absorbing Man!
ULTIMATE X-MEN #63 $2.50
BKV!!! It's brother against brother in part 3 of Brian K. Vaughn and Stuart Immomen's final arc "Magnetic North!"

Not such a big week, thanks to The Purge.

Action Comics #831
Gail!
Hellblazer: Black Flowers TP
ATTENTION: The second Mike Carey volume!!! And Frusin art, too! It also contains my FAVORITE John Scene in recent memory.
Majestic #9
I never read the older Majestic series, so this new twist is lost on me. Doesn't mean I don't like it though.
Nightwing #112
Hope to see our more light-hearted Dick Grayson soon, but I am enjoying this.
Robin/Batgirl: Fresh Blood TP
I believe we ordered this.

Franklin Richards: Son of a Genius
Comics can be fun again?!? Who knew? ;)
Gravity #4
Yes, in previous weeks, this was found beneath the Wait for Trade banner. Unfortunately, the proliferation of the digest-sized trades has screwed that plan! Back issues and last minute ordering! Nothing gets between us and a McKeever book.
Marvel Masterworks Doctor Strange vol 2 HC
OK. Honestly, I didn't order this due to $$$, but I'm posting it here so I can dream.

Electric Girl vol 3 TP
It has been AGES since I've read the last one! Really excited about this!

Wait for Trade
--------------
100 Bullets
Read vol. 8 about a month ago. It was a lot...harsher than previous volumes. I realize that is saying quite a bit, but all the same it broke me out of the narrative once or twice.
Desolation Jones
Sooooo so so tempting, but we're trying to save money.
Fables
Hope a trade is coming soon. Patricia is getting impatient. [gulp]
Matador
Liked #1 & 2. Hope it gets collected. Vertigo is usually pretty good about that.
Wildcats: Nemesis
IF it gets collected, I'll consider it. Not very excited over it, though good reviews could sway me.
Winter Men
Looked interesting, but can't afford everything. If there is a trade, I might get that.
Daredevil vs. Punisher
See Winter Men's comment.
New Thunderbolts
The trade collecting #12 is solicited before #12 comes out? What do you think I did.
The Pulse
The Secret War tie-in arc lost me. It is solidly a Wait for Trade book now.
Ultimate X-Men
But not if what happened in the annual put Patricia off the book.

Umm...it did. I am starting to hate Annuals with the passion of a Thousand Fiery Suns. ::glares at Marvel Powers that Be::

Tracie, can we use the Scorpibees for non-Bendis related concerns???

Small but expensive week, mostly due to two books. You'll pick them out easily in this lineup.

DC COMICS
Absolute Batman Hush Oversized HC, $49.99
Action Comics #831, $2.50
All Star Batman And Robin The Boy Wonder #2, $2.99
Desolation Jones #3, $2.99
Nightwing #112, $2.50

The only bright side here is that the ABSOLUTE HUSH book was pre-ordered and paid for months ago. Whew. Feels good not to have to spend that money again. =)

MARVEL COMICS
Fantastic Four Presents Franklin Richards Son Of A Genius, $2.99
Gravity #4 (Of 5), $2.99
Punisher Max Vol 1 HC, $29.99
Spider-Man Unlimited #11, $2.99

Really, who isn't buying FRANKLIN RICHARDS?

SPIDEY UNLIMITED will be a flip test book. If any of the names interest me, I'll jump.

PUNISHER MAX is another pre-order. So, wow, this is a cheap and slow week. Seriously, I may not even bother going to the comics shop tonight. It doesn't seem worth it for $20 worth of books, when I have ten times that number unread at home. I'll double up next week.

Damn. I needed those communist sales. Will the Libertarians, at least, be picking the book up?

What about the Greens? No--they're opposed to using trees for paper product.

Liberals? Too busy bashing Bush.

Conservatives? Too busy providing corporate cronysm.

Man, no one's buying my book! :P

It's not so much the wait as the totally-losing-the-thread-of-who-is-double-crossing-whom thing. Definitely something I'm gonna have to go back and blitz-reread once all hundred issues are out.

Yeah, even w/ the trades, I usually re-read the previous few volumes when a new one comes out. I think I re-read 5-7 when #8 came out a few months ago.
