I think they're going to do that anyways.

No worries.

I for one would like a new one. Not because I don't like the old one, but in my opinion, change is better than stagnation as it allows for progress.

IIRC they said the original tune would be used in the film, but it wouldn't be the theme tune.

That's not my understanding.

New score but the same anthem tune along with "quotes" from Williams score in places.

I mean, Marlon Brando is Jor-El. The movie opens with a 40s-style comic book. The fortress and ship are identical. Zod, Ursa and Non get referenced. Glenn Ford is Pa Kent.

This is a sequel more than III or IV were.

A lot of people bitched about Batman Begins not having a Danny Elfman score. And while I liked the previous Batman movie scores, I also liked the new score by Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard a lot. Danny Elfman wouldn't have fit for BB. So while I think the original Superman theme was good, I'm not against "Superman Returns" having a new theme (although I heard they intend to keep it). IIRC they have John Ottman doing it. He's got some pretty goood soundtracks under his belt and some of his works are really good: The FF4 main theme, "Sneaky Mystique" from X-Men, some of his "The Usual Suspects" songs.

I'm not sure how this disagrees with what I said?

I still can't think od that tune without my heart lifting a little. It was perfect the first time.

Of COURSE! To do otherwise would be blasphemy! I'm not a regular Superman fan and even I know that.

I know that it gave me a chill when they used it on Smallville during Tom Welling's scenes with Chritopher Reeve.

It wouldn't be the same without it!
