By no means is this to be misconstrued as an art thread. Basically my only artistic ability is to swipe existing pictures, then try to paint then in acrylics. The only thing i find i can draw is very basic characters, yet i find i can do the Simpsons quite well. Here's a couple painted images:
The Batman i did for myself cause i always like the image, it's originally a Mike Zeck drawing, done in black and white.
The Homer is my copy of Homer ala my favourite Hellboy cover , Wolves of St August in DHP.
Hellboy is a swipe from Fitzroy, trying to do it justice in acrylic red and black and brown to be added..

Edit: Hmm..i guess you can't edit the title?

Hey Mike,

Much better job than I can do. Thanks for sharing your acrylic work. Remember, it's a reference not a swipe. ;)

Be sure and post your finished painting of Fitz's Hellboy.

Hey thanks Pat.
I'm close to finished actually on it, i did a bunch on it last night before Scott Allie's chat. I wasn't happy with the coat due to my lack of colours and no car for the night to go buy a lighter colour, but this Hellboy is going with a darker coat, so it looks a bit better now that it's dried.
I just need to finish the rest of the blacks, as opposed to the regular way of doing this, i did the red first in case it bled a bit.

Hehe..well, if he keeps pumping out these great pieces of art, i will have no choice but to keep swiping from him and playing with my little paint set..

He probably should wait until i commission the Spidey art from him as well...

Skinny, all artists swipe once in awhile, that's no big deal. Now if you do nothing BUT swipe, well then you'll have to take over for Rob Leifeld someday (kidding folks). Seriously though, I can tell just from what I've seen via your scans that you must have some sort of talent hiding under that apparent "swiping". Otherwise your stuff would look very amateurish, which it doesn't.

Keep up the great work, Skinny! :D

There..paint is still wet on the finished version. I followed Fitz's ink version pretty much as close as possible. I left the white part above his head as the paper i copied the picture onto has a blueish tint that's hard to see in my crappy picture, which actually looks "smokey".
A fun little experiment for me that i think looks pretty good, and only took roughly about 6 hours of painting time...how you artists do this stuff in short sketching sessions is beyond me...

Mike

By the way, the buckle on his coat and the cross and beads are gold paint that for some reason my wife had, so more the fun!

And of course, Lobster from the summer art exchange..
I can't seem to find my pic of Rasputin from the 2003 Exchange, and I'm still apologizing for my awful 2004 xmas exchange piece ::shudder::

Here's Fitz Hellboy number 2, i deliberately didn't outline the bad santa and the evil child, trying to see if that would heighten the effect of HB punching them out..I'm not sure how well it worked..

Hey Mike, good stuff. The outline would work better I think, but I'm a 'black' fan.

I did a quick change to the santa pic by outlining the "child', but it doesn't really look super great, so i left santa.

I also just finished a sketch based very tightly on a Mike Oeming one i came across a few years ago, but i can't seem to locate the camera right now...when I do, i will post it here. Basically, i added some shadowing, some specific small details, plus one big detail..hopefully i will find that camera tonight....

And finally, here is my Oeming version of Hellboy. I followed what i could find of the Oeming sketch pretty much close as it was, but i added a few things to it as well..pretty much just looking at the screen and drawing it on paper. I messed up the RHOD of Doom somewhat so i added what he's holding to try to "distract the audience".

Unfortunately not Hellboy related, but seeing as how no boss at work the other day, I actualyl had some time to muck around and take breaks. The Captain America i saw a version by John Cassady that i think i will take this and paint, the Spidey was just a fun head sketch attempt, both are in marker.

Mike I gotta give it up for the Batman, that is sooooo sick

Yeah, the Batman was a Mike Zeck commission that i put to acrylic paint and actually on a canvas.

Here's my newest project, still not hellboy, but it's my setup to a new hellboy idea I have. The original Superman image was from the 80s-ish Art of John Byrne book..i took that image, re-penciled it, blew it up on a thicker stock paper so that the paint would hold a bit better, and here's my newest attempt.

skinneymike all top notch, really really good. The Superman is really good, but the Cap. I like the bleakness of it. Shadings and whites. Was that a racial comment? Good show though good show!

Whew..finally, i got off my duff and finished my acrylic paint version of the original hero. What got me off track? A large version of a Simpsons inspired pic i saw of the original Star Wars poster...so far I have the pencilled version at my place of employment, not sure if i'm gonna paint it up or not, it's not really HB...

Finally! Like a dozehole, I finally got around to doing something in return for Adam getting me a skeych from Cheeks at earlier in the year...it's in the quasi Simpsons style that i am comfortable with, but i still cannot draw the Right Hand of Doom at all..i need Fitz lessons i think. Anyhow, as soon as I move Adam, I will try to mail this out.
