I know absolutely nothing about it except that the two characters that appear back and forth on Atoningunifex's avatar are from this comic.
I'd love to hear about it and whether or not it's worth picking up.

Yes. Yes it is.
After Disassembled, a group of teen super heroes popped up. The press called them The Young Avengers. Captain America, Iron Man and Jessica Jones wanted to find out what their deal was while two young girls (one being Cassie Lang and the other a new character) wanted to join.
#7 starts a new storyline and the tpb of the first story should be out soon.

It's been a pretty good read so far, and it's kicked up a tempest in a teapot controversy over subject matter in the book.
The art is excellent, and the story is pretty darn good.
Check it out!

I would absolutely recommend it! I'd say it is one of the best titles Marvel is putting out these days, and not only is it a great read for "classic" Avengers fans who aren't thrilled with New Avengers, but I think it is also perfectly accessible for new readers as well.

its perfect for new and old readers the book is excellent. It would seem that the book has alot of stories that can be tols at any given time now.
I feel like the book will be around for a long while

It is my favorite comic being published right now.
It has a great blend of drama, humor and comedy. The characters are too knew to be well developed but they have a lot of potential to grow (and have already). The writer really knows how to do cliff hangers so that you cannot wait until the next issue comes out. There are some elements of the comic some might find overly goofy (like the names) but the writer is one of the first to point out these elements and make fun of them himself. The book really knows how to laugh at itself.
I know I wrote this elsewhere but a good description of the book is:
Teen Titans is, "What if the class president, captain of the football team, class clown and the lead cheerleader got super powers."
Legion of Super Heroes is, "What if the drama club got super powers."
Runaways is, "What if the breakfast club got super powers."
and Young Avengers is, "What if the geeks who hung out at the comic book store playing dungeon and dragons all day got super powers."

It's a wonderful book, imho. While I don't read Avengers or New Avengers, the book is fresh and interesting and captured my attention since the first issue preview. Hopefully the quality work keeps it around for a very long time. The sales numbers seem to be fairly decent so far. :)

I really like it. It's one of only a couple of books that I wait for each month. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but it's very well drawn and I find it to be very well written. The characters interact with each other very realistically, and they have real problems - all the while trying to be heroic and find their way together as a team.
I say give it a try.

Definitely pick it up. It is the first comic I read every month. I love it, and it keeps getting better!

Awesome analogy. You got it perfectly!

... but not Marvel's best in my opinion. It is on my pull list, however. I think it lost a bit of steam after an intense start, however. Some say it is the best thing Marvel is putting out... I disagree... I have heard the same for New Thunderbolts, and if I drop anything, that is probably the first on the proverbial chopping block... For what it is worth, I will give you my pull list in order of favorite to least, so you can judge my opinion against your own, perhaps...
1) Ultimates 2 - Can't wait to read each issue! 'Nuff said!
2) New Avengers - Very close to el numero uno.
3) Ultimate Fantastic Four - Have loved it from the start (though U-Doom's reinvention does not exactly smell like a rose...) -- I can't reiterate enough how I love the reinvention of the Mad Thinker -- this might be better than the Ultimate Thor reinvention... she is so creepy, I never thought I would be in love with a lobotomist... until now...[and incidentally, I am not a huge fan of Jae Lee's] ;). It got even better since Land got on board -- and I am not normally into blonde girls, but Susan can eat crackers in my bed anyday! En fuego! I would also insist on a 'no invisibility' policy with her at all times...
4) Amazing Spider-Man - I dug 'Sins Past' (guess I just discredited myself) ;), but I am totally into JMS's writing as well as Deodato's pencils. Ay Carumba!
5) Captain America (very close to Spidey, just that Spidey is my all time fave, and I totally dig JMS & Deodato together... and, incidentally, I have no 'classic' Avengers, and only three Captain America books before Brubaker's run.. so he was no even in my say 'top five' heroes, yet he (the character -- admittedly through different writers) is pretty much in all of my top 4 pulls now (because Cap is in the current Amazing Spider-Man arc).
6) Spider-Girl - old school meets modern language - no 'golly's here! - meets a teenage girl with - Spidy's powers. Kicks Ass, and yes, both words needed to be capitalized. ;)
7) Young Avengers - yet another book with Cap in it. Could really flourish in the near future, though it kinda-sorta-stalled out for an issue after they only killed Kang. High quality writing and artwork... just get past the parents and let Vision mentor these new heroes, and this will resume the momentum it had to begin with...
8) New Thunderbolts - I do enjoy this, though if I drop anything, this is first to go... Grummet's men look all the same to me... and even his women all have freakin' dimpled chins. Still light years ahead of anything I could do, and I do like the developments around Mach IV, Songbird, Radioactive Man, and Speed Demon (Atlas, Genis, Blizzard, Joystick... *yawn*).
Okay, a little (probably too much) insight into Harold's tastes... hopefully this gives you a perspetive to choose whether or not you will invest in Young Avengers. Pax um biscum. ;)
The Amazing thing about New Avengers is that it gave us every indication that it would SUCK. The title was corny, and the concept seemed like a total Teen Titans rip off. SOme would argue that the fact that the writer used to write for the OC is a red flag too (though I wouldn't be one of them).
But despite a lot of negativity going in, the book really turned out stellar. It shot so far past most people's expectations it wasn't even funny.

You meant Young Avengers, I believe XPac... and I recall the 'negative buzz' (I was never a big Avengers fan) about the concept here on these forums before the book came out. So, you are right, the execution for what many perceived to be a lame idea has exceeded expectations... :D

Well thanks for all the info folks. As I only buy trades now days I'll be definitely adding this one to my list. As soon as it is released of course.
Actually I don't suppose anyone knows when that'll be by any chance?

Yup, our tastes are way different for sure. I collect like 40 series a month from various companies and only 3 on your list are series I collect (Young Avengers, New Avengers & New Thunderbolts)
