View Full Version : Where is Hawkeye going to end up? Possible SPOLIERS

Assuming the Clint survives HOM (they can't kill him twice in like a year can they?) where do you think he's going to end up? Here are some of my thoughts:
New Avengers: Least likely to me because there isn't any role for him. Wise cracking smart ass is taken by Spider-Man, head strong rebel Wolverine, street wise bad mofo, Cage. So unless he turns out to be Ronin, there's a good chance that Hawkeye isn't going to be a New Avenger.
Young Avengers: Clint could possibly serve as a mentor to the kids, but that role looks to be filled by Vision, and this book is going to focus on the kids so he would get lost in the background possibly.
New Thunderbolts: This strikes me as the place where he will end up. Seeing as he has a past history with the team, writer with a fondness for the character, decent opening for him to return, Thunderbolts looks like the best bet for Hawkeye in a regular capacity.
Guest Star: This is a close second to me for Hawkeye's next role. Much like the rest of the "Old" Avengers, he may only appear in a guest star in other books. Even though I would like to see him take over the Spidey role in MTU and have Hawk be paired with other heroes every month.
So these are my ideas, what does everyone else think?

I think he may put together a new team of old Avengers.
That, or guest star regularly in other titles.

He'll discover his long-unnoticed mutant power for superhuman barbecue party-throwing and rejoin the Great Lakes X-Men in December.
Or he'll guest-star to Deadpool to learn a much valuable truth:

Fabian Niceiza has already said that Hawkeye won't be returning to the team---his role as the "former-villain-turned-hero who mentors the others" is already filled by Abe and Songbird.
That doesn't mean that Fabian wouldn't bring him in for a guest appearance, but he has said that there isn't a place for him in the series as a regular.

Well, I guess that it is becoming more obvious that we will never get our monthly Hawkeye fix. It seems strange to bring back a character that had such a large outcry over his death, and not really have a permanet place for him. But I guess guest apperances are better than no appereances at all :)

I wouldn't say "never"--just because there apparently isn't one right now doesn't mean there won't be one a few months from now or a year from now.
Plus, there is always the possibility of a new HAWKEYE series, either ongoing or miniseries. I think Fabian Niceiza deserves another shot at that title...and the series would have a better chance at survival this time, since a Hawkeye project would get a lot more attention now than it did last time.
And in the meantime, we know he's going to guest star in at least two issues of SHE-HULK (and who knows, he could show up for more as well), and there are plenty of other places he could easily turn up for guest spots (Thing, GLX-Mas, Marvel Team-Up, New Avengers, Young Avengers, New Thunderbolts, Cable/Deadpool, The Pulse, etc).
The Pulse! That's it! He's gonna become a journalist and get a job at the Bugle!:p

Has this been confirmed anywhere?
As for where Clint ends up, as long as it isn't New Avengers, I'll be a happy man. Personally, I'd love to see him in Thunderbolts, even if it isn't going to happen.

It`s not confirmed it`s just a hunch given all the attention he`s been given lately. House of M is the number one comic in the country. And Hawkeye made the cover of that. That can`t be ignored. ;)

I'd love to see Hawkeye heading up a new team of Avengers, preferably a "classic" team for those of us who have no interest in NA. However, I don't see this happening anytime soon. Marvel already has 2 Avengers books, I doubt they'll go for a third, especially one featuring characters they felt needed to be removed from the Avengers title.
Death's Head, yes?

When "New Avengers" was launched, didn't they say there would be another Avengers book happening (that wasn't "Young Avengers") later on?
I think Clint reforms another team.

Though I would love a book with "old" Avengers led by Hawkeye, he seems to be taking the same route as the others and being religated to guest star. Why doesn't Marvel give us babies our bottle and give us a book staring the old Avengers! :D

They also said "dead means dead"
and also said this event(insert any major event from the past 5 years) will change things forever. Which nothing has changed yet.
I have come to point where I don't believe anything marvel says anymore.

Fair enough...but the "no WCA" thing has been said again and again for years, long before the "dead is dead" stuff ever started, and there has been no indication that anything has changed.

They also said for years that "only Bucky stays dead" and winter soldier is challenging that one.
The only reason I think reason I think their is going to be a new WCA series is that I am stuck on something Bendis said in a interview. First off they asked him thoughts on WCA. Which is weird that the question was even asked. He said that he thought it was a great mini series.
I know that sounds more like a sign that it won't be happening. But Bendis also said that Hawkeye is one of his favorite characters and then they killed him. They also said Ronin is not Daredevil.(the Jury still out on this one)
Side note- In New Avengers They are talking about needing teams outside of New York.

Its not weird at all--people have been asking about the WCA for years now. When Busiek was Avengers writer he got asked all the time about the WCA and the chances of bringing them back.
And ever since the New Avengers was launched, many of the "old school" Avengers fans have been hoping that a second Avengers book would be launched with some of the classic characters. So, with that hope and expectation so high these days, it is only natural that someone would ask him about it.
But Bendis also said that Hawkeye is one of his favorite characters and then they killed him.
True...but Bendis would hardly be the first writer to do nasty things to their own favourite characters.

True, and we will probably see some...but it probably won't be a new "West Coast Avengers" series.

Bullocks. I love this character so much so let`s kill him? Naaa I don`t buy it. If you love a character so much you want to write about him on and on and on and on `till your eyes pops out and you`re 100 Years Old and you don`t can`t use your fingers anymore. Not kill him. You want this character to be cool, to act cool, you want a shrine dedicated to him, you want to be able to do all these countless incredible stories with him in it.

I didn't say Bendis does (or does not) love Hawkeye--I'm not inside his head, so I can't comment. But there have been other writers who have killed off characters they love for story purposes (or due to editorial interference, etc) before, so it wouldn't be unprecedented.
There is also a question of what Bendis means by "love". I certainly don't think that Hawkeye is one of Bendis' personal favourites in the way that Luke Cage or Spider-Woman are. But that doesn't mean that he can't have some fondness for the character which isn't as intense.

I seem to remember CC killing Storm and Rogue way back. I don`t remember if the goal was to bring them back or not however. Or that time that Marvel refused to let him kill Wolverine. That`s the difference with Marvel then and Marvel now. These days they actually encourage the killings of characters.

That still doesn't make it unusual--as I said, Kurt Busiek got asked about WCA all the time when he was writing the book. I'm pretty sure Geoff Johns was also asked during his stint on the book. It is something that gets asked all the time.

It probably won't happen, but i'd love to see Hawkeye in Young Avengers trying to be a "cool dad" as some kind of karmic payback for all the crap he gave Cap back in the day. Also, a "when I was your age..." lecture from Hawkeye every month would be hysterical.
