Okay, so we've all (probably) seen the preview art of Ultimate Galactus. However, the art didn't answer many questions, and opened up plenty more to discussion.

Now, we're getting some answers.

In the latest issue of Wizard (#168), there's a piece about the Ultimate Secret mini. Gah Lak Tus is described as being "comprised of 10,000 10-story-tall insects!"

Warren Ellis himself explains, "Gah Lak Tus is a compound entity - it needs to be able to surround a planet, and it needs to be able to survive tens of thousands of years in space, which is a hugely destructive environment. This is bigger than anything yet seen in the Ultimate Universe."

Well, this is pretty exciting to me. I like seeing the UU being different from the MU, so I was hoping Gah Lak Tus would not be a straight-forward hungry giant with a purple techno-suit. And this new vision of Galactus - as an unreasonable, unstoppable entity comprised of thousands of monsters - sounds pretty awesome. I can't wait to see how the UU heroes handle this one. Gah Lak Tus sounds quite vicious, and quite horrifying.

Discuss!!

EDIT: For the sake of visualization, here's the preview image of Gah Lak Tus. There's a colored on in the Wizard mag, but it is small, and I am scanner-less.

Sounds great. Can't wait to read the storyline, and at least the multitude of 'Eating Machine Insects' that land on the planet will give those trying to save the Earth something to target and a fighting chance. At least more than going against a giant purple dork wearing a bib with a knife and fork. ;)

Oh, and I thought you might like this, Doom Bunny. :)

Silver Surfer is supposed to show up in the last issue of Ultimate Secret, if I recall correctly. :)

I wonder what SS will look like. Will he be some sort of shape-shifting being that takes the form of any planet`s most perfect definition of a sentient being. Seducing them before Galactus comes in?

So, it's the Replicators (http://www.gateworld.net/omnipedia/races/links/replicators.shtml)?

Didn't Ellis already do this on JLU?

What number is Ultimate Secret at right now? 3 or 4?

I like that idea. It makes a lil more sense than a giant being walking around Space.

Wow, Gah Lak Tus is a great concept.

Some of the Ultimate stuff really is fresh and welcomed.

In regards to Silver Surfer didnt Ellis say something cryptic about Surfer not being a him in that issue of Wizard?

In which case he's an it, which I guess makes sense since 616 Surfer doesn't seem to have any genitalia. :)

I like that idea. It makes a lil more sense than a giant being walking around Space.

During John Byrne's run on Fantastic Four, it was established that each sentient race perceives Galactus differently. We see a giant white guy in a purple Kirby costume because that's what humans see when they look at Galactus. But he's really more of a force of nature, beyond our mere human perception.

A different take, I am willing to give it a try and see. I wonder how they will handle this one.

Looks neat.
I've always seen Galactus as more of a evil God than a supervillain, so this deathropormorphizing (whew) of his takes it in a totally alien (no pun intended) direction. Should be a interesting and fun read.

I wonder if it'll be able to talk to people?

Will the heroes use an Ultimate Ultimate Nullifier to stop Galactus?

Didn't they already do the "collective bug creature" bit back in the old days with Annihilus? Not that that means they can't do it again, but it's hardly an original concept.

Or is this another one of those damned things I dreamed that never actually took place in the comics themselves? I seem to run into that alot lately.

Eh, I'm jazzed about Gah Lak Tus. Makes for a more compelling disaster story IMHO, and can't wait to see Ultimate Silver Surfer; maybe he'll throw down w/ Ultimate Vision? And wouldn't the Ultimate Ultimate Nullifier just be The Nullifier? Eh...

By the way, Stormbreaker: The Saga of Beta Ray Bill 'confirmed' that it's still canon that different races perceive Galactus differently.

heheh... You know, the more I'm thinking about it, it's almost a shame that the Ultimate Universe is such a cash cow, and henceforth business sense demands it won't ever be really rent asunder. Looking at that cover, how cool would it be as a story if Gah Lak Tus arrives, and SUCCEEDS in wiping out life on Ultimate Earth? Closing the book on the Ultimate Universe, making it all this massive 5 year experiment. I dunno, I feel like that'd be wild.

Jim,

That would be a cool way to end the Ultimate Universe. Even though I liked the New Universe, I don't even remember what happened to it. Suddenly, most of the titles were cancelled, then there was a mini-series using characters from some of the N.U. titles, then something happened in Quasar's monthly title. By contrast, a big dramatic and destructive conclusion would be thrilling.

IF the Ultimate line was coming to a close, I agree wholeheartedly that a big ending story would be best. I hate when things just fizzle out with a whimper.

Yeah I agree with Jim and Shellhead, this would be a fitting end.

I can tell already that this is going to be epic. There aren't a whole ton of heroes in the Ultimate universe like the 616 has so it's going to be a tough fight, especially if one of the creatures are tough to kill. I'd probably expect a War of the Worlds type thing going on with this and dammit...I'm excited.

thats exactly what i want but i want some heroes to live and others die to be replaced by brand new ones that arent in 616.

As I recall, as the New Universe started to wind down, they nuked Pittsburgh, which was dealt with in the miniseries The Pitt. After that, a lot of series ended, I think Starbrand and Nightman were among the few that kept on keepin on, and eventually the series all got cancelled.

Up until Quasar, of course, and then there's the upcoming Exiles arc.
