As many of you already know, my daughter wants to be a professional artist. She's been after me for a while to post some of her work here for feedback. This may not be the best subject matter to use as her first piece due to the subject matter, but I do think it shows off her talent. It's entitled After Death Us Do Part.

Loosely based on Faust from Shaman King. Here's a couple more.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Here's four more. The first one has to be my favorite that she's done so far.

Have I ever told you I love your daughter... well mostly her art. She's definitly going to make it. I love the portrait and you know she has really captured the true creepyness of Faust. That last Faust one eeked me out, and trust me that's not that easy to do.

Kit's got pretty good skills for someone so young. I'd say she should work on the following-
Life Drawing- It helps the anatomy :) School Art class does this sometimes, plus she can also use superposeable action figures like Marvel Legends, or lots of 12-inch dolls/action figures [Art Dolls aren't really that great for it, as they're rarely double jointed]
She should also create her own characters too, though I imagine she does do that ^_^

We just went through a pile of things that Kit had thought were pretty good about a month ago. Well over half of it she now hates, & it went into the trash. Here's some of what made the cut.

Just one more because I like it.

I bought her a new book on drawing technique for her birthday. This is her first new piece.

This is her latest one. She's asking for interpretations because she has no idea what it is about. Just stream of consiousness drawing.

I want to apologize for the lousy scan of this, but she wouldn't let me take it out of her sketchbook. She isn't sure if it's really finished yet or not. Chances are she's going to play around with coloring it, so you may be seeing it again later.

Like I said before- Love it. I think she's getting better all the time.

Sorry about that, put up the wrong scan. All fixed now, it's the inked version.

There's some impressive work here. Her sense of depth is good, and the shading is nice. How old is Kit?

In response to Az, because I'm lazy & getting her to let me take anything out of her sketchbook so it will scan properly is like pulling teeth. I will try to get some more up this week.
To Ontir she's 2 months shy of 14.

I understang her hesitence about letting stuff out of her sketchbook. For me, the sketchbook was like a diary, and while I didn't mind showing some things, there were other parts that I didn't want anyone to see. That was usually the point when I'd find my parents showing it to guests.
There's a program I've seen in the Apple Store recently. I can't recall the exact name right now, but essentially it's set up to add the zip-a-tone affects that are a mainstay of Manga (which is part of the name of the app). You might check into that, as it would help her work show up better digitally, and might help as she continues to develop her sense of depth and volume. She's off to a great start, and comics need more women at every level.

Last month's Previews solicited for both hands on & comp verisons of screen tones. I ordered the hands on version for her to try out as she's been very interested in trying it. Thanks for the link!

Of course it's the best one, it's also the newest one. Every drawing she does is better than the last, IMO.

Kit, or rather Cat as she now prefers to be called got an amazing set of Micron markers from Shades007 (her secret santa) & has been really exploring the joys of shading & detail work. These are the latest pieces she's allowed me to scan.

Seriously. Kid puts my stuff to shame. I know this cause I do have one or two things I did at that age.

Somehow I missed this thread.
I love this.
It has strong elements of cubism. Very cool.

Art is what she wants to do with the rest of her life. She has been planning out how to get where she wants to go for a long time now & has just begun enrolling in High School, plotting out what courses to take over the next 4 years to help her reach her goals. Your encouragement and constructive critisisms mean a lot to her.
