I thought this quiz was fun:

http://quizilla.com/users/Entropicalia/quizzes/You%20Know%20Yer%20Indie.%20Let's%20Sub-Categorize.%20/

What I got: You're a Post-Punk. You know 70s punk was cool, butit was mostly just a stepping stone for the greater intellectualism of what would come after. The 80s were amazing. You quite possiblyhave huge hair, and may wear lots of black. Snare drums need reverb. Lots and lots of reverb.

Well that's weird. Nothing to do with me but an entertaining description in itself:

You're Avante Garde Indie. You listen to abstract music like free-jazz and Krautrock. You drink too much coffee and you scare the fuck out of the rest of us. We're afraid to call you pretentious because we know that we all just don't get it. There are few of you out there, and most of you will probably die soon.

Pretty close for an internet quiz!

You're Generally Indie. There's nothing wrong with this. You like music all over the map and aren't adversed to listening to some Top 40 here and there. You just know to comment that The Neptunes are the best producers around right now. You don't feel the need to debate constantly with other music geeks, because you know that Pavement were the best band of the 90s.

Yup, that's about it. But I like the Pixies better than Pavement.

I must point out that the only bands/artists I have any experience with on that quiz are The Beatles and Miles Davis. I've never heard Pavement and The Neptunes are far from great. Also, I constantly "debate" about music online.

Excellent. I'm gonna go listen to Coltrane and Pharaoh Sanders while reading the Naked Lunch, again.

Well, I do wear lots of black.

You're a True Punk. You know that punk isn't all about studded jackets and mohawks. If you're political, you're actually informed. Most of the stuff you love is from before the 80s, though you know bands like Fugazi kept the spirit going.

Sweet. I couldn't have said it better myself.
Great little quiz. Funny as hell, too.

Man, Iggy looks out of it.

This is great. Maybe not too far off although I can't say I listen to much of it:

You're a Mod. You dig expensive things, like suits and speed. You have a fine appreciation for the Kinks and know that Motown started it all, and you have fabulous style. Hey, nice hair.

I agree with the digging of expensive things (except speed), Motown did start it all as far as pop/rock, and my hair and style are both fabulous.

This is all true. I have had friends and especially girlfriends claim that I am "more indie than thou." I don't discuss music much anymore, because my tastes tend to the obscure, and I am often oblivious to the mainstream.

Oh yeah, and...

Its right, save for the fact that the Pixies are better and more important then pavement, and Franks solo stuff is generaly better then malkmus.

"You're an Indie Pop Kid. You like songs about relationships and the prettiness of nature. You're sentimental, but not certainly not emo. Oh, and if you aren't an English Major, you should be."

This doesn't surprise me at all. After all, Belle & Sebastian are my favorite band of all time.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that I pretty much agree with my quiz answer. Joy Division is quickly becoming one of my favorite bands.

You're a Britpopper. The UK is your thing. The Smiths really were 'terrif' and Blur are indie no matter how much money they made. You could drink all the other indie kids under the table. You plan on moving to London someday and dream of one day owning every Beatles release on vinyl.

Well, sure.

This quiz sucks, you can totally manipulate anyway you want if you know all of the music.

Yeah, all you have to do is say that you slept with Damon Albarn and they call you a Britpopper.

A friend in college managed to use me as an (unknowing) distraction to shoplift a Fugazi tape. I was carrying one of the early pagers and he knew they tended to set off the alarm so he went out right close behind me and I and the clerk assumed it was me and they knew about the pager issue so waved us off when I showed him.

Ian would LOVE to hear that story. "This is NOT a FUGAZI tape."

Damn. I was hoping for something a little more insightful. I think this must be the default answer for everyone who doesn't match up perfectly with the other settings.

Oh, and Primus was the best band of the 90s, and the DFA rule the Neptunes.

Must bring this up at the next PTO meeting.

egads! I'll probably die soon?! Must spend the rest of my hours of life listening to Ornette Coleman and John Coltrane!

Shitloads.
