He's the executive produer and creator of Lost, far more responsible for the show, storyline, and characters than J.J. Abrahms.

So if you like the show, than yes he is a good writer.

I really love the show Lost, but like all TV, it seems to be written by commitee so I don't know quite how responsible he is for the quality of the show.

This would jibe with what was implied already; that it is a non-comic writer of some interest to the non-comin, mainstream world.
