View Full Version : KOTOR fans: Is it time...?

Does any series deserve a sequel more than Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic?
After the cliffhanger (and totally incomplete) ending to KOTOR 2, you'd think a third and final game would be a given, if for nothing else than to complete the trilogy and conclude the plot threads. I've heard rumor that BioWare isn't interested in continuing the series and is more concerned with original material, now that they're a popular company.
Is it time to petition Lucasarts and BioWare for a third edition? Or do you think another game is on the way, just as of yet unannounced? I'll start the damn petition myself if it gets any gears in motion... Would you sign one?

Last I heard they were developing KOTOR III for Xbox 360. And it doesn't matter what BioWare wants to do, Obsidian worked on the 2nd one.

Obsidian may have done the second one, but that's no guarantee that they're doing the third one.

No, but Bioware doesn't really 'do' sequels. And Obsidian did an extremely good job, all things (like them being rushed) considered.

There's a rather large group of people out there that are of the opinion that the job Obsidian did on TSL was quite absymal.
I found it okay, just saying, though, a lot of people hate it.

Which seriously wasnt Obsidians fault.
They did as good as it was possible, considering the pressure.

Good for 'those people'. I, for one, loved the game.
And considering they were forced to cut large chunks of it out, TSL being as good as it is just says more about their skills.

Yup.
While the story was a bit weaker than in Kotor1, I actually enjoyed playing Kotor 2 more.

There's no doubt in my mind that KOTOR is the better game. However, I still love KOTORII. It's a flawed gem.

Meh. KOTOR II certainly doesn't suck or anything, it doesn't quite have that same mysterious charm that kept me playing the first installation for 20+ hours straight with no idea of the passing of time. In fact, it's been two months since I last played it, and still haven't felt compelled to go back and actually finish the game.

KOTOR 2 was an inferior game. Still a very good one, but inferior to the original. Bad ending, but I've seen worse come out of rush jobs. (Xenogears, I'm looking at you)
One thing I hope they do away with is turning your entire party into Jedi. Half a dozen people becoming Jedi over night really cheapens what it means to be a Jedi. It was one thing in Revan's case. Revan wasn't really learning to use the Force. He/She was remembering it, and just didn't realize.
The only member of the KOTOR 2 cast whose transformation into a Jedi actually made sense was Disciple. He'd been brought up as one. He was still the worst Jedi in either game.

Ill admit Kotor 2 was better and worse than KOTOR in some aspects, first of all what is with the deal with the animation for master flurry from kotor 2? its just like a little bitch slash, if you played kotor 1 it looked MUCH better, the one from 2 just makes your character look retarded with a lightsaber
and kotor 2 seemed to have just as many if not more glitches
But i still liked it, it would be cool if KOTOR 3 dealt with what happened to revan and exile, maybe even let you play as both of them at different times

KOTOR2 felt a bit easier, but it was still challenging enough. I always love using a Silver Lightsaber in one hand and a Cyan in the other.
And I remember hearing a rumor that you will meet up with revan in the first game, and it would have co-op.

Saw a blurb about this in Game Informer, but seeing the actual website blows me away.
I'm definitely going to have to get the PC version just for this.

Damn, if only my comp. was good enough to run high quality games
anyways is there anyway to get a different animation for the master flurry from kotor 2 that anyone knows of? I find it odd they only put that one in, the one for the double bladed lightsaber isnt bad tho

I've heard similar grumbles, so you'd probably find a mod for it.
But only for the PC version.
Or unless you have a modded X-box.

Advantages of the PC-version, but console games have their own advantages and disadvantages. Still I'm very excited about the content that was planned to be in the game. So many strong scenes. Even in text form they were very effective.

4 years later and Team Gizka has kind of stalled out. But that's okay. A guy named Stoney has picked up the ball and has released a Restored Content mod (http://www.deadlystream.com/showthread.php?t=339)

Oh, a great many. Plenty of games out there never got sequels could use one two.
What we don't need is another Star Wars game.
Not that I begrudge the fans their latest laser sword using magical adventure or space plane simulator, I just wish LucasArts would do something with one of its other franchises for a change.
The recent Money Island goodness was a nice start, now follow up on that guys.
Also, I did not care for KOTOR. Just couldn't get into it.

Yes, clearly Lucas should ignore its' most profitable franchise in favor of those that aren't remotely as successful.
While genuinely good Star Wars games may be fairly rare in the massive sea of "average or worse" that has filled the franchise, even an "average or worse" Star Wars game probably sells better than a Monkey Island game (particularly these days). Ergo, it's kind of silly to expect that Lucasarts would devote much effort to them.
Capitalism at work!

Kotor2 was a great game until the wheels fell off at the end. I'm not saying it was perfect as it needed a lot of polish as you spent way too much time running around naked on Peragus and the wait time for a lightsaber of an already trained Jedi was ridiclous. On the plus side it is because the wheels came off that the MMO is coming out if you are into that thing which I am sadly not. I still wish the franchise well though.

I can't recommend the Restored Content Mod enough, by the way.

Unlike Team Gizka's TSLRP (which we were talking about *four years ago*), they've released a fully working beta, and have already released two patches for it in the space of a couple weeks.
Here's a link that displays everything they've restored, or what hasn't been (and the reason why). Hurray for the HK Factory!
http://www.deadlystream.com/showthread.php?t=228
They're also getting ready to make a compatible version of M4-78 (the restored Droid Planet), and an entirely new take on the cut Genoharadan quest-line.

Right, because that's what I said.
I suppose you've never wanted anything that you knew would never happen, since you're so quick to dismiss what I'd like to see - not what I expect, but what I'd like to see - as silly.
