I'm thinking of buying some Gundam toys and I need some info.

I already have a Strike Gundam 1/144 model that I got as a freebie. It needs to be painted but I've never done that before.

I want to buy a Providence Gundam. Now, the 1/100 model is in colour, right? No painting required?

There there's the "Mobile Suit in Action" line. These are pretty small, right? I'm tempted by the Arch Enemy Gelgoog and RX-78-2, because they're supposed to be that little bit bigger. But there doesn't seem to be a Providence Gundam in the line. Madness. If don't really need a model per say. If it looks cool, that's fine.

I haven't seen the higher level Gundam models.

I currently have:

L4 Burning Gundam
L4 Master Gundam (G Gundam is my favorite Gundam series)
L5 Wing Zero
A L5 Gundam Seed model (I forget the name but I think it is the main one, blue wings)

A few others.

What series is Providence Gundam from?

Providence Gundam is Rau Le Creuset's bitchin' Gundam from the last 3 episodes of Gundam Seed.

I've only made a couple, but my pride was the 1/144th GM Ground Type from the 08th MS Team as it actually looked good after I painted it. MAHQ.net has a rapidly expanding model section so I'd suggest checking them out.

You don't really need to paint the 1/100 kits. I used to sell the Gundam Wing models when the show hit big on Toonami.

I put together a few, including the Perfect Grade 1/60 Wing Zero when the customer that ordered it stiffed me. The Master Grade and Perfect Grade kits are insane in the detail they offer.

Yea. I have 1/100 Freedom Gundam from Seed.

Aile Strike Gundam looks kickass as well. I'll have to get that. I just hope that the Toy's R' Us nearby will have it.

I'll have to get some new Gundam models. Thanks Hiromi.

Never painted any of my models, though.

Thinking about getting more models lately. Cars, Gundam, etc.

The MSIA look too rubbery, but I want to be able to pose my Gundams more and I don't like the idea of lightweight plastic that much. This is frustrating. The 1/144 I got is depressingly flimsy. And it needs a lot of paint, too -- a lot of colour is missing.

Size... that's why I'm leaning towards the 1/100 Providence, but I'm still not sure how big it'll be assembled. How tall are the 1/100 models? Can one of you measure yours for me? And like any geek, I have to get an RX-78-02 and a Char's Gelgoog. Arch-enemies line then? I'm not crazy about the less-detailed aesthetic but at least they can pose. All my 1/144 Strike does is stand there. And it'll need a lot of paint to look good. Plus, the head's wobbly. Grrrr.

I don't have it with me but my L5 (Master Grade) Freedom Gundam wasn't as ig as I thought it would be. It was 5" IIRC. It is fairly smallish.

Most of mine are 1/100 but they differ in size. My G Gundam 1/100's are about 7-9 inches tall.

My Master Grade Wing Zero model is big. IIRC 11". Tough to stand because of the wings, however. In addition, the gun if freakin huge. :(

I also have an RX-78 GP01fb Master Grade 1/100 that is 6" tall and is posable. Don't have all the stuff anymore, though. :(

I've always thought of the MSiAs as more of toys for those who want aan actual action figure. I much prefer the models

Where are you getting these anyway? I've been meaning to get my hands on some more models.

Here's the one I'm talking about -- the Providence Gundam:

I have the action figures as well. Well, they outnumber my Gundam model collection. Most of them from the G Gundam series, though I do have the RX-78-2, Nu Gundam, among others.

I like the action figures. But I also like the Models better.

After seeing that pic, now I want that Providence Gundam as well. I just hope it as large as it looks. Do you happen to know what grade of model you want (High Grade, Master Grade, Perfect Grade, etc)?

I got all of mine at the local Toys R Us. Though I could probably find the ones I want better at the local anime store, if I ever went there...

That's quite some TOys R Us you've got there. The only thing mine has are the toys.

It is a pretty big store. DVDs, posters, cars, models, bikes, electronics. I think they even have some clothes in there (kids clothes mind you but still they have clothes).

I live in Australia, so they don't have Gundams at the toy store. I have to get them from a special store in Chinatown (and they're pretty expensive, too, because of shipping costs). No action figures, either -- if I want those I'll have to order them.

I can't tell the difference between photos of the 1/100 and the 1/144 because, duh, they're the same Gundam. Very frustrating. I think that's the 1/100 model but it could be a cross-up. My store has an assembled Providence but I can't tell which it is -- it looked a bit small, about the size of my 1/144 Strike. If I'm going to buy it, I may as well buy a big one. And it's a high grade kit.

Ah! I finally found a page with the stats for the model, and the 1/100 is 7.1 inches. Now, in centimetres... 18 centimetres. Um, that's not very big at all.

I wouldn't mind a nice Sword Impulse myself:

All in all though SEED models seem a bit blockier than I'd like.

Seconded Hiromi. (about the blockiness).

I guess that is kind way I like G Gundam models better.

I haven't seen Gundam models at our local Toys R Us in a couple of years, nor at Wal Mart. If I do get back into it it will have to be via ebay and online ordering.

I haven't been to Toys R Us too much lately since I don't collect (Yu-Gi-Oh) cards anymore) but the last time I went I didn't see too many. :(

So I guess it is anime store of bust.

It's just like the Berserk action figures I want...:(

The good news is that the one in the shop's the 1/144, so the 1/100 will be a decent size. Excellent.

What's strange is that the grey colour of the armour is closer to what's on the show on the 1/144 than on the 1/100.

A hobby shop near me has just about any high grade yet released, A PG Wing Zero Custom, RX-178 Gundam MKII, PG RX-78 Gundam, AND the MG METEOR. And a few FIXs.

That is probably because that particular model is a HG.

And does anyone here (besides me) who has MSIA's actually play with them?

Found out my local comic store has a small inventory of models for sale, picked up the 1/100 Launcher Strike model. Looks nice, and was a satifying build, maybe tommorow I'll dig out the webcam and put some pics of it up.

Apparentally the next Master Grade is the Hi-Nu Gundam....

Wesley Dodds

Welp, I'm a big Victory Gundam fan, so I'm hoping for a V2 Gundam MG. Esp. after the F91 got one.

To be honest, I like the Nu Gundam a lot more than the Hi-Nu. I've been hoping for a new Nu Gundam MG kit for a while -- it would be a challenge, but it might be fun to mod the Hi-Nu kit into a Nu Gundam.

I've been trying to decide what model to do next -- I've thought about the Freedom MG for a while, but I guess what I really want is a Destiny Gundam MG. I mean, they'll have to give us one, it's such a popular suit.

Another option would be Gold Frame Amatsu -- I like the design.

Just finished the MG Zugock. The arm/leg construction was a bit difficult and one of the 'claws' doesn't want to stick but otherwise it's a good kit.

Starting on the Zaku II. So far, the cable parts aren't as bad as I've heard other modelers complain about.

ChrisIII

Update: They are as bad!

Speaking of Zakus, I think a Zaku 2.0 is in the works, featuring the 'skeleton' that the original Zaku model lacked. Plus another Seed kit, I think...

It seems online is the only place to get Gundam kits these days, unless you live in Japan or have an anime or sci-fi themed speciality shop nearby. Remember when the kits were available for a few years in stores like Wal-mart & Toys R us?

BTW there are rumors that another Gundam series is in negotiations for a US release. Rumor has it that it'll be ZZ, V or Turn A.

I'm currently working on the GP-01 MGs...the Core fighters are a bit tough to squeeze into the chest area...
