View Full Version : Whatever Happened to Dan Turpin?

Once upon a time, the duo of Maggie Sawyer and Dan Turpin stood out from the Special Crimes Unit of Metropolis. Currently, the only standout is Lupé, a newcomer I feel has been introduced to fill the void they left. But when did they leave? I read in the DC Encyclopedia that Maggie took over Bullock's job in Gotham after the No Man's Land period. It seems odd that she isn't seen there these days, what with the gang wars and all...

Anyways, to the point. The Encyclopedia accounts for Sawyer, but it only mentions Turpin once, with his group during the Kirby days. So, I want to know where he went. Was there some story I haven't read where he died or resigned? Or was he simply not mentioned for such a long period of time that he just disappeared from continuity? I'd really like to know.

I don't remember him being killed, although he was killed in TAS by Darkseid.

Maggie Sawyer is seen all the time in the Bat-titles, although most notably in Gotham Central.

I think Dan Turpin was ignored, not killed. DC seems to be ignoring a lot of Superman's previous history, which is a shame.

He appeared briefly during the Dan Abnett & Andy Lanning/Mr. Majectic arc in Jan. of '04. But how he fits into Lupe Leocadio's new S.C.U. regime is anyone's guess.

If he's not running things, I'd have to imagine that he's no longer in the SCU at all. At least I hope he isn't taking orders from that annoying wench.

He probably left the SCU after Maggie left. Not wanting to follow a new, less experienced boss.

Maybe Dan went off to some other city, like Star City, and helped set up special police units there. what Majestic story was it he appeared in? The one where the B13 stuff went away? Hmm...
