I don't think the hardcovers are any different, content-wise. It's just the binding.

I'm this close to getting them...it's just I'm wondering if they're really good, and worth having the extra protection of a hardcover (and cool looks) or if I'll just read them once and store them with the rest of my trades.

Yikes, don't think better binding/covers are worth ~2x the price.

Is the paper any better? I hate how DC prints most of its books on a cheaper, non-coated stock. A few decades from now, my Marvel/Image books (from recent years, at least) will probably be in noticably better condition...

Yeah im not a fan of the paper they use in Detective Comics, GL and other stuff, they look faded.
