I love Crackerjack, he's great comedy relief. And I think he's much more capable than he lets on. He did get the Irregulars out of prison during Confession, after all.

Samaritan..

Oh, and I meant "favorite" not necessarily toughest. Just FYI.
And Samaritan is a cool one. Great origin story and powers.

Steel Jack is a tough dude, I don't care who you are he's good. I would say the best character for me is Junkman. He's the bomb he only got caught out of being bored.

Steeljack, because we actually saw him grow into the role.

I like the Confessor best myself, though Steeljack's a close second.
I wonder, was giving the Batman-like Confessor a sidekick named Altar Boy an intentional gag on Busiek's part? (You know what they say about Batman and Robin, and you know what they say about Priests and Altar Boys.)

Not sure. Wasn't it before the news came out about all that happening at the vatican?

That stuff's been in the news since at least the mid-80's, it's only become a big national/international story recently.

Another vote for the Confessor and Altar Boy. "Confessions" was my favourite ASTRO CITY story.

What, no love for Jack-In-The-Box?

Crackerjack or The Hanged Man
Patient Boy

Probably Jack in the Box. I like that he's essentially the Spider-Man of the Astro City set, but with a significantly different character once out of costume.

Confessor. Easily. Brilliant take on the Batman motif, and a great story to boot.
Steel Jack. Robert Mitchum to a tee. One of my favourite characters. Hanged Man is kind of cool as well.
I'm torn. It's Confessor or Jack in the Box.

Steel Jack. Speaking of Astro City Heroes based on actors, can anyone else name a few others?

I have to go with the Confessor with Samaritan second.

It's got to be The Hanged Man for me. Even though I know nothing about him, his appearances have just blown me away. I love the design, and the way he just floats around Shadow Hill is creepy. Also, he's a big part of the Astro City 1/2 story, which is my favourite AS issue.
Other than the Hanged Man, I love the Silver Agent, the Gentleman, and Steeljack. Beautie seems kinda cool, but we haven't seen much of her yet.

Jack-In-the-Box and the Confessor. The villians who use the chessmen inspired power armor are neat too.

It's hard to say who the best character is . For the most part we don't get to know the heroes . The stories are about the people around them. Dark age is about the two brothers who are reacting to the superhero "events".

True. I wish we could get to know the heroes better.

Which is why Steeljack is such a great character, and The Tarnished Angel such a great story. It's about *him*, his journey, his motivations, his development.

Well, the Gentleman is obviously Fred MacMurray (as is his psychic forebear, Captain Marvel), and I always thought Jack II had more than a passing resemblance to Denzel Washington. And Crackerjack, to me, looks a lot like Matt Dillon.

Since I liked Confessions the best, I'll go with the Confessor.

Although all three have been mentioned, I like Confessor, Hanged Man, Silver Agent and especially Atomicus. I love Atomicus's story, a tragic take on the Superman/Lois/Clark triangle.

Confessor I was great, but I like Altar Boy better.
Having said that, I like the Cross Breed/Jesus Freaks best. Hopefully we'll get a big story focusing on them one of these days.
