Hi,

Very new to comics in general. I have been reading soe stuff by Brubaker and am wondering if you would recommend the new Captain America by Brubaker. Being new, is this a good or bad place to start reading Captain America?

Thanks,

HH

i've been a fan of cap for a while now, and read most of the past 350+ issues and the two essential captain america tpb's and bru's run definitely hangs with the best (and there are plenty of old cap runs i like). not THE best, but up there, and certainly a top 10 comic today, any publisher. plus the art is some of the best out now, too. so yeah, with this quality you can't go wrong. start with the current series #1 (it's only up to 9 and you should be able to get 1-8 on ebay or 1-6 in tpb form fairly cheap).

This is the first time I've bought Cap's book regularly, and I am enjoying it and following it just fine.

It's very accessible, but it also uses elements that please long-time fans.

Oh, yeah. It's #$%@in' awesome, also.

Yes, Start with either Brubakers #1 or with the Tales of Suspense Double Feature which contains the same PLUS Iron Man #1 (its a clever marketing effort at 7/11 stores, etc that echoes the old 1960s split book pairing of the two heroes in separate stories.)

If you can find them, and I should think you could quite easily, grab the first nine issues of this new run of Captain America. I've heard there is a trade paperback of the first six coming out if not currently available. That might be the best route, and ask your comic shop to pick up the last three issues for you to be brought up to speed.

Though many of the characters and devices come from past runs and series, the books is quite accessable and complete in itself... it is forming a long ongoing saga that shakes Cap back to his Silver Age roots, way back in Avengers #4 and 56, volume 1.... from 1963 and 1967, plus uses stuff from Tales of Suspense 77-82 very effectively.

Written by a true fan of Capt's continuity who cares about the character and writes a challenging mystery with good dialog and developments. A+

damn. sorry I missed this thread earlier.

Just another very staunch supporter of the new Cap book. I've never liked a super-hero book more than I like Daredevil (I'm biased... I REALLY like DD), but this current run of Cap and the current run of DD are constantly battling for the top spot on my reading list month after month.
