Just got the new Kanye CD and I think it's phenomenal. While "Gold Digger" is the catchiest and the remix of "Diamonds From Sierra Leone" is the most socially conscious, I think "Roses" and "Hey Mam" are the most affecting. I don't think that there's any real clunkers, but "Drive Slow" isn't something I always want to hear.

Anyone else?

I'm really digging what I've heard.

I recently saw an interview with him that made my respect of the guy go up like %300. What an awesome, intelligent man Kanye is.

And he's been speaking out against homophobia by admitting his own past hatred of gays and how he learned he was wrong- just a superb guy who is as good as he says: it ain't cocky if it's true.

I'm not real thrilled with the album. Jay's verse on the "Diamonds" remix is the highlight. The album isn't bad, but I really don't like Kanye on the mic. And, honestly, other than Jay I don't think any of the guests are that good. The "Drive Slow" beat is real cool, but it feels wasted with the MCs. Am I going nuts or does it remind anyone else of "Passin Me By"?

There's no way I'll buy this album, but it's not the overproduced mess I was expecting.

2.5/5

Yeah, he's been getting a lot of respect for that.

I've listened to the new album myself, and it's definitely growing on me. I like Kayne as a rapper because he is a bit corny, and I think he knows that. I mean, the guy's trademark is a teddy bear!! He doesn't need to be some hard, "I'm a Hustler from the streets" type of rapper if he knows he's not like that.

It's definitely not overproduced, but there definitely are lot of layers to some of the tracks, very heavy in quality, and it's a lot to process. I guess I'm the only one who likes "Drive Slow", surprising since I've never been a fan of Paul Wall or guys like him. I like both versions of "Diamonds", "Roses" is great, as is "Heard Em Say" with Adam Levine from Maroon 5. And the Broke Fraternity skits are hilarious!

I haven't bought the album yet, but right now 'We Major' is on constant rotation. That track alone makes it worth me getting. But I'm waiting 'til the 13th so I can get Little Brother's CD at the same time. That's gonna be a good week for me.

I'm glad to hear Little Brother makin' some noise out in the scene. But when that MF DOOM/DangerMouse collabo comes out. . . . .Oh, it is ON!!

Well... word is that BET won't play their new video because Little Brother is too "intelligent" for its viewers. Exact words. Posted on a message board to which the members of LB belong. They won't confirm or deny. All they'll say is that an e-mail has been sent to the programming director and "we'll see what happens."

Off topic. I'm sorry. But I hate what BET's become.

Put this in another thread:

It's pretty good, but The College Dropout had a freshness and hunger that this album lacks. How has he gone from something so original to his sophomore effort, where he rips on his competition and talks trash about doing pot?

The beats are still hot and the lyrical prowess is there, but it leaves me feeling a bit empty.
Still feel that way, but the album's a lot more enjoyable the 2nd+ times through if you don't compare it to the original.

I liked it it was respectable but Kanye is far too cocky for his own good. He still can't contend with the greats as far as just pure content goes.

And that dude on wildin out is right Kanye should try to do a song without a sample on it

I wouldn't be surprised. BET has been garbage for a good couple of years now, and the speculation that there's actually a list of artists they've banned for being too deep for their target audience(13 to 18 year old girls) isn't all that farfetched. Having seen the alleged list though, a lot of the artists aren't played on BET anyway.

At first, I wasn't dissappointed per se, but underwhelmed. I thought the work he did on Common's "Be" was better, and I still do in some ways, but I think it's definitely the type of album that gets better on repeat listens. The remix? original? version of "Diamonds" isn't bad, I enjoy Kanye's verse, but it doesn't meld at all with the Jay-Z verse that follows. 1 verse of socially conscious rap doesn't go with typical rap braggadocio.

Im not that well versed (ha!) in sampling, but Roses and Hey Mama seemed pretty damn solid in content. I think that the man is a great lyricist and I like his use of sampling more than most samplers, like Diddy.

Heard Em Say is the next release I heard.

I love Roses. Constantly playing that.
And Touch the Sky is so feel-good!

Don't think much of Hey Mama & Celebration.

not just for being inteligent but being irrelevent to them.basicly most of the artists from the 90's.or anything that has a anti-pop vibe to it.

I'm surprised there's not more love for "Touch the Sky"...it's just so upbeat and fun.

Anyway, both of Kanye's albums are awesome...I like College Dropout a bit better but I listen to both a heck of a lot.

I was quite surprised that Kanye pretty much used all his lyrics from "Wack Niggas" off the Talib Kweli mixtape for "Bring Me Down".

I'm loving 'We Major'(That's all I play in my car), 'Roses', and the remix? of 'Diamonds'. The rest of the CD is aight. I agree with the poster who said that Common's 'Be' was better produced than his own album

I was listening to this album again, and after listening to Crack Music I realised I didn't hear what Game's verse sounded like. So I played it again and understood why.

You know, I really can't think of a good reason why Game was on this song.

The Game is on Kanye West's album so that Common sounds even more awesome in comparison.

He didn't even get a verse on Crack Music! He barely does the hooks. What's the point of getting a rapper to guest on your song if he doesn't even rap?

The song would not be significantly different if Kanye hadn't included him on the track.

I think it's interesting that Kanye brought on board rappers known to have beef with Jay-Z or Roc-A-Fella (including Game's non-contribution). What other rapper has Nas, Jay-Z, Cam'ron and Game on his album?

No 50 though.

Exactly.

50 Cent: 'I Feel Like Kanye West Is Successful Because Of Me' (http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1509158/20050908/50_cent.jhtml?headlines=true)

"I feel like Kanye West is successful because of me," he said. "After 50 Cent, [hip-hop fans] was looking for something non-confrontational, and they went after first thing that came along. That was Kanye West, and his record took off."

Apparently some beef isn't ready to be squashed yet, although in an interview last year Lloyd Banks had said Kanye was one of his favourites at the time.

Ahh, rappers and "beef". Gotta love it.

I can't wait to see who Jay-Z decides to go after. I keep hearing that it'll be the Game and Dipset. Could make for some interesting diss tracks.

Aside from his beef with Nas, Jay-Z's beefs are so one-sided. Jay didn't even have to rap against Prodigy if he didn't want to. He just flashed a picture of homeboy in a tu-tu and it's over!

Kanye West has enough money to keep even the most trifling of gold diggers happy, so you can imagine that it's nothing for him to shell out whatever asking price his album's guest stars demand. So how much were Game's vocals on "Crack Music" worth to Ye? Turns out West only paid a buck for them.

"When 'Crack Music' was developed, I walked into the studio," Game said of the track, which was originally a song West was going to give to Diddy. "Diddy was in there with Kanye and they had the beat going. Kanye had verses already and was trying to figure out the hook. First they came out with 'That's that crack music,' then 'That's that black music.' I kept saying it and Kanye was like, 'Game, why don't you go in [the booth] and say that?' I did it and forgot about it."

Game said he had to mentally backtrack after West's lawyers reached out to his lawyers and asked how much he wanted for his appearance. "I was like, 'Damn, I'm only on the hook for two words, man. He can have that,' " Game continued. "We didn't charge him nothing, but [in music] you can't charge him nothing, so we ended up charging him $1. So hopefully Kanye would look out and I can get a beat for about 50 cent — no pun intended." ...

Well that explains that at least...

Yeah, but to me that's stupid. I kept hearing that Jigga had video of the Game performing in some strip club. That's boring. Use some creativity and make some hot songs, don't just show a picture or a video.

I admit, I don't know much about this album, but I did see an interview with Kanye not too long ago (last week?) and he was so full of himself! It really shocked me, because I remember when his first single hit big and he was so thankful and 'oh my god i can't believe this is happening to me' and giving encouragement to all, and when i saw that last interview he just talked about how great he is and how everyone should strive to be like him, sitting back with his sunglasses on, smirk on his face. turned me off. but, i'll give anything a try and i'll listen to his music if it crosses my path, but after that i won't go out of my way to check it out.
