Dr.Synn, aka the Scarecrow of Romney Marsh, from the Dr.Syn novels by Russell Thorndyke, and the Scarlet Pimpernel (aka Sir Percy Blakeney) and his wife. The prostitue looking woman is Fanny Hill from the novel by John Cleland.

Not that we've seen.

No, she wears the scarf to hide the scars Dracula left on her neck.

"Hereos And Monsters," Jess Nevins's notes to Volume 1, available at fine bookshops everywhere. Or google Jess's name and you'll find his website, which has the same stuff. There's a set for Volume 2 as well.

But then it doesn't incompass Movies, TV, or Comics.

In addition to the site, the Absolute edition's scriptbook has translations and mentions who everyone else who gets panel time is - for example, the school mistress caning the schoolgirl in Edmonton is the heroine of 'What Katy Did' and 'What Katy Did Next'. The schoolgirl is someone too, but I can't recall who.

The girl whom Katy Carr is punishing is Olive Chancellor from Henry James' The Bostonians. The pregnant schoolgirl, Becky Randall, is from Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm. The one whom the Invisible Man rapes is Pollyanna (there is a joke about how she remains optimistic even after her ordeal).
