OK, I'm going to take a shot in the dark, and just guess:
All the comics feature an appearance by either the President or First Lady.

I'm pretty sure that this is NOT the commonality of this week's cover challenge, but it's interesting that every cover but one (The POLICE COMICS) uses deep focus...

It does, though, involve a design in which elements are moving along multiple planes. In fact, I think that all of the covers are ones in which depth of field plays an integral part to the design.
But is that actually it? I didn't notice a clue this week...

The cover connections usually involves something Steven has written about in the column and deep focus and multiple planes was a big feature of the pencilling article. That could be the "clue."
The problem with playing the game here is that we know we won't get the correct answer on the board. Just wanted to say to those who are really interested in "winning" should shoot Steven an email with their answer.

The clues were about weather.

There were several clues this week. Most clues are commonly in the contest announcement; if that doesn't tell you to refer to the rest of the column for clues, the rest of the column isn't germane to it.
Let me put it this one: I don't phrase the announcements the way I do for my health...
