I wonder if it'll get more people on Monday. But it doesn't have the strong Simpsons lead in anymore, which sucks. Not that there's anything else on Monday, though, so it could benefit from that.

Well Everybody Loves Raymond is gone and that was the last really successful sitcom. I say Monday is up for grabs. I think not having Baseball f*** up Fox's Fall season will help too since they won't be premeiring all their shows in November.

Scott Baio has been hired to play a new attorney for the Bluth family.

This was due to Henry Winkler landing a new role on a CBS sitcom for the fall.

Baio is signed for one episode, but reports are suggesting there will be more appearances down the line.

On some site..I believe it was CNN that reported that Arrested got a 2 season renewel. At least 44 more episodes Is whats being said. For that I'm happy. This show deserves to make it.

And Baio replacing Wrinkler ? Hell yeahhh....he could play Winkler's slimy son in a way. ;)

I'm afraid I can't agree with you there. :) I found the repeated shots of sad people being denied access to the cabin, Maeby's multiple cousin troubles, and Ron Howard's interrupting exposition to be spot-on and hilarious!

But I think the Quote of the Week belonged to Buster:

Am I imagining things, or did the narrator say last season that Maeby and George Micheal aren't really cousins? If so, how? I read somewhere someone speculating that Maeby and Ann got switched at birth, which would be perfect in IMHO.

I don't remember 100%, but sometime last season Tobias mentioned something about Lindsey being unable to conceive. This led to speculation that Maeby might have been adopted, or another woman's eggs were used, or something like that.

I'm probably misremembering much of it.

It was kept really vague. The narrator said that they "might" not be really cousins when they kissed in the season finale, but it might have had more to do with the running joke within the episode from the "Dangerous Cousins" movie where they ham-handedly made the cousins not cousins.

I think I'm thinking of a different reference, then. Maybe earlier in the season, or possibly the first. I just remember Tobias saying something that threw Maeby's origins into doubt, and George Michael kept trying to get him to elaborate, but Tobias was too oblivious to reply.

Tobias got a call from Carl Weathers.

But yeah, they alluded to the possibility that Mabey's birth was really complicated, which made George Michael think of the possibility that they weren't related by blood. It wasn't until the finale of the second season that the narrator came out and said that they might not be related. But that was tied to a running joke about the movie that Mabey was producing.

They did one last week.

Did they replace that with "Previously On Arrested Development..."

I think it just varies from episode to episode. Sometimes they do almost nothing, sometimes it's at the beginning, sometimes there's multiple minutes of preview gags.

Either way funny episode. I like the scene with Tobias in the Wig Shop. And Ron Howard referencing Andy Griffith was hilarious too.

I love when they do jokes about Ron Howard. Like the bit where the crazy publicist calls George-Michael Opie, and Ron cuts in with, "She'd better watch her mouth!" Heh.

Oh, and about Maeby, she's definitely the result of some kind of kind of fertility clinic tomfoolery. In one episode, Lucille says they "made her in a cup. Like soup!"

And Tobias called her their little Frantenstein monster at one point in a similar context. Wait, no, he called her "their little Frankenstein m-aeby, how long have you been standing there?!"

Heh.

Oh, and by the way, Charlize Theron's character is retarded. I don't mean that as a criticism of the writing or the character, I mean I'm pretty sure she's actually a mentally handicapped person and nobody's noticed. She doesn't teach preschool, she attends preschool. And the Mean Brit has nothing to do with Saddam; the "stupid relative" he was talking about was Rita. Mark my words, Michael has the hots for a very special guest star.

I didn't pick up on this the first time, but someone pointed out that the Fake Preview -- which was full of scenes that weren't actually previously on, of course -- contained this exchange:

"It's just some stupid girl problem."

Not only is watching Arrested Development two times in a row 44 minutes of laughs, it is helpful so that you can pick up on all the subtle jokes, planted plot seeds, sexual innuendos (amost every one of Tobias' lines) etc.

Genius.

It is so retarded (not Rita retarded) that only 4 or 5 million people in America watch this show. Their loss.

Arrested Development works on more levels than any sitcom I've ever seen. To see a good example, watch "The One Where Michael Builds A House" from s2 again, except this time look at it in terms of commentary on the Iraq war.

The bit where they do a rush job on the cheap, then hold a press conference with a "Mission Accomplished" banner, and then the house collapses while stereos blast "Solid as Iraq!" takes on a whole new meaning.

It is so retarded (not Rita retarded) that only 4 or 5 million people in America watch this show. Their loss.

I can see how it would be difficult to get into, sadly. The same stuff that we all find so hilarious -- the chicken dances, "More touching!", "You're gonna get some live-ons," and so forth -- are all injokes you'd only really get if you've seen it from the beginning.

Then you throw in the surprising complexity of the comedy, where you have to watch an episode repeatedly to even find all the jokes, and it can seem a bit impenetrable to a new viewer. Incredibly hilarious and rewarding if you put in the time, but still.

I thought that was just her cover, and that she and Thomas were the AD take on TVs Avengers. (Probably working for Ricky Gervais, too, hopefully as a veiled David Brent.) Lots of meta- stuff going on this season, number one having Chachi replace Fonzie. I was laughing so hard at that one I thought I was going to have a heart attack!

The second episode was classic. An entire half hour devoted to building everything up to a Godzilla joke. Priceless.

I still blame Fox. Arrested Development is the best sitcom of the last ten years, easily. It's won tons of awards. Every critic considers it one of the most original and funny shows on television today. And Fox couldn't find a way to market it. Because Fox marketing sucks.

Maybe AD will move to HBO, who I'm sure would love to have it on their schedule next to Entourage or Curb Your Enthusiasm, and finally be able to cut loose (althought the network censoring thing did work in the show's favor on Monday).

Could this have anything to do with Jason Bateman's surgery? I thought I read that he had some elbow (or something) surgery recently, and production would be going on hiatus while he recovered. I don't know where I read it, but I thought it said new episodes would continue to run through November (finishing off what they already had filmed), then episodes would pick up in January. Maybe they'll spread the finished episodes out? Can't a boy hope?

It doesn't matter how good a show is or how many awards it has won, if it's not pulling in enough viewers, it is viewed as a failure.

You know, FOX has done everything to help this show, but you know what no body just wants to watch it. I've tried to tell everyone I know about it, but me and my wife are still the only two people I know that watch it. Most people I know have said they would try to watch it, but that they thought it would not be funny because.....it wins all the accolades and awards. Too a lot of people, accolades and awards is a death sentence because it is not what a lot of people want to watch. I think people think it might be too over their head to watch

Example: Married..With Children was always hated by the critics and never won anything. Yet, there has never, NEVER been an episode that I did not laugh out loud at ever.

Then you've got Curb your Enthusiasm. I heard nothing but good things about this show, then I tried too watch it twice, and well...I've seen better film on teeth. I don't get how the critics and award people are so wrong about this show, because it just ain't funny.

I know this might confuse some people, but I think AD might be a victim of its own fortunes.

AD's cancellation doesn't surprise me as much as it's renewal after the first season. Any time I watched the show I never even smiled. It was just dumb and unfunny. Mostly because the cast acted as if they didn't know how to play the show. If a cast doesn't gell, the the show is doomed.

And don't forget, try your own advertising campaigns.
Cut out some sheets of paper. In large capital letters write "WATCH ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT MONDAY DECEMBER 5, ON FOX!" Make dozens of these if you have to. Then start leaving them place people will see them. Your neighbor's mailboxes. How bout leaving it in a library book or a movie due back at the video store? Restaurant tables, around the office, into people's lockers at school. Anywhere and everywhere. If enough people start doing this people WILL get interested.

Odds are Fox Executives will have a hard decision. If I was Fox I'd move it to FX and make it a cable show. Order 20 episodes a year and just sell DVD rights.

HBO could step in due to a lack of comedies on thier Network.

the funny thing is...the first season, fox ran a AD marathon on fx to promote it...i was wondering why not do that again...it would probably work even better in a 13-18 week format anyway...and let's face if they aired something like that crap ass show about eating disorders...why not give AD a shot there??...

Dear god, AD of Showtime would rock!
Fox should look at shows like Everybody Love’s Raymond, and Seinfeld. Both had mediocre beginnings but were loved by the critics (I think Seinfeld was loved by the critics- I drink too much). These shows slowly grew a following that made them the top rated shows on television- and have you seen the first season of Seinfeld? It is not nearly as funny as the first season of AD.
And Fox moved around AD so much this season I had a hard time following it. So a casual viewer probably wouldn’t take the time to find it. I’m not even going to get into the marketing of the show.

It'll come down to Showtime or HBO. One of those Networks will swoop in. Showtime would love an Emmy Award winning show because it'd attract a fanbase for thier comedies like Huff and Weed. HBO has to replace " The Comeback " which was a huge letdown for them. Getting AD would be a totally great move for thier subsribers to flaunt.

They could have a great comedy block with Larry David and this show.

Add ABC to the battle. Yahoonews i reporting that Showtime and ABC are in talks to try and get the show. Fox however won't comment if the show is canceled or not!

In a wild bit of news its believed that if Showtime does get AD thier gonna be asked to sign a deal for 21 more episodes so Arrested can get to the magic 88 episode syndication deal.

ABC more than likely would be happy to get a comedy with Arrested'd pedigree. Talks are now if the entire cast will go or not. Batman has commented that he doesn't wanna do the show without anyone there.

I'm pulling for ABC who would most likely put the show on Tuesdays and pretty much conquer at 8pm .

The overlying theme of this episode was that the show was getting canceled, thus there were "ratings grabbing" jokes all over the place. I was talking more series-wide, as opposed to just this episode. Although yeah, awful lot of incest for just this one episode even.

Other incidents though, Maebe having the hots for Steve Holt, the constant reminders that Martin Short's character "wasn't their real uncle," the whole George/Oscar/Lucille triangle, which I'm not sure is actually incestuous, but if not, is pretty damn close, Tobias occasionally coming on to George Michael, although that has a whole mess of astericks next to it... and then there's always the cousins movie, but that wasn't with the actual characters.

They were in "Silver Spoons" with Jason Bateman.
2. Erin Moran as Bob Loblaw's ex-wife
She played "Joanie" on "Happy Days" and "Joanie Loves Chachi"
3. Lucille humming 'Misty'
I'm guessing this has to do with her making a statement in a recent episode regarding how she can't "spare the moisture".

Was there a different "live" ending on the West Coast? The episode ended with Jason Bateman saying "We've still got the west coast feed." It occurred to me later that that would sound odd coming at the end of a California broadcast. So did they mock up a second 'live' ending?

The last time I saw her was on the King Baby episode of CSI last year so I don't think she's too busy to do an appearance.

I still smile at that accent.

Another possible incest bit -- there is widespread fan speculation that Maeby and Anne were switched at birth. Which would mean that not only did George Michael move on to his cousin to get away from his cousin (exactly like Maeby and Steve Holt! did), but that GOB is now dating his neice.

I actually thought that added to the joke, because it made it so blatantly obvious that it wasn't a live ending.

And since we're linking to articles, let's see if we can find out if there really is a Bob Loblaw Law Blog (http://featuresblogs.chicagotribune.com/technology_internetcritic/2005/12/yes_virginia_th.html).

I totally agree. It came full circle. What else would the show say. I mean everything was explained: Lindsay adopted, Maebe not blood related, Bluth family exonerated.

Really there is nothing left to say, all the jokes have been made.

I have to disagree. While the show certainly could end here with everything wrapped up, the potential for future storylines are definitely there. Lindsay, secure in the knowledge that she's not blood-related, can pursue her attraction to Michael. We can see how the mother deals with prison life (or, failing that, being hidden in the attic). And just because Ron Howard turned down Maeby's series, doesn't mean it won't ever get made, and the possibilities there are endless. :)

Because of the piss-poor advertising by Fox, I didn't even know it was on until 8:00 (Central), so I missed the first hour. So while I was bugged about that, I LOVED the last hour. I'm happy with the ending, and if it doesn't come back, oh well. I'll have three good seasons (albeit short ones) of a great, great comedy that, once this one comes out on DVD (how can it not?), I'll be able to watch whenever I want.

Still, I think Fox made a huge mistake.

I agree that they did leave if open enough to continue, but I don't really think that its necessary. Michael taking George Michael and leaving on the boat was a perfect ending IMO. Mother in prison...pretty much the same, although it would be funny with Lindsay going after Michael and possibly even funnier Job going after Lindsay..."Why have the best, when you can have the rest." That line was killer.

Personally I think it would kind of be pointless though

Well, the finale did reveal this.

But even before the finale, it was implied. GOB mentions that he always hooks up with the third place contestant at any beauty pageant he judges; Anne won third place at the Church and State Fair.

Followed by repeated references to GOB's off-screen "religious girlfriend" over the next few episodes.
