Figured we might as well start a thread about this where we can discuss without the viso text.
And, again, the most important aspect of the issue was me second letter published in Young Avengers. yay!
Ok, discuss.

Well, my badly written synopsis was:
Iron Lad learns that he has to go back to the future to save the timeline. Iron Lad has to become Kang. He really doesn't want to but they cannot think of another way. And when Asguardian and Hulkling disappear into the timeline, they realized they have no options left. Iron Lad activates the Vision program in his armor and has Vision send him back (he can't take the armor with him because that would also damage the timeline.) He said that when he returns he will never remember being Iron Lad or remember the Young Avengers.
Captain America, Iron Man, Vision and Jessica Jones tell the Young Avengers they are going to have to shut down. Yes, the were impressive against Kang but they are still kids. If they don't shut down the Avengers will let their parents know what is going on (what a wussy threat.) THey make the Young Avengers turn in their equipment and thell them that if any of them ever wore their uniforms again the Avengers would be there to stop them.
Several weeks later they are having lunch in Washington Square. Kate Bishop and Cassie Lang have been talking and decided they want to reform the Young Avengers. Kate found a warehouse that her father no longer uses and has forgotten he ever had, and she wants to convert that into their HQ or as she has called it Lair. They take a vote and decide that Asguardian is bad name and force him to change it. Of all the suggestions they gave, Wiccan was the name he hated the least.
Kate also has friends who are fasion designers and she had them design new costumes for the Young Avengers. They decide to reform the group, and when the Avengers find out, well....they never let anything stop them before.
It was an epilogue. It had little to now action in it but it had some nice character moments. Kang's leaving for the future was especially well done if a little short. It was basically setting up the team's future.

I'm sure Vision will be back. The Avengers will probably tell them that if they are going to continue to operate without their permission, they need someone to oversee the group. Since it was Vision's plans that got used to gather the team, he'll likely be the one who volunteers. :)

Didn't a She-Hulk solicit spill the beans that Cassie's name was gonna be "Titan?" Maybe this is a temporary name.

I think we'll definately be seeing more of the Vision. Remember Iron Lad saying "Take good care of my friends" to Vision? I'm wondering if Kang still has influence over the armor even when he's not wearing it. Will Iron Lad's (a.k.a. young Kang) words be seen as a command to the armor? Will Vision be compelled to keep and eye on the team because of that?
That's my theory. It'll be interesting to see what Vision's role will actually be.

Great issue, I liked Iron Lad's farewell. It sucks for him knowing that he's going to turn into Kang but it has to be done. Maybe whenever Kang comes back again he'll have a memory of being on the team.
The way the whole team gets back together and receive costumes are nicely done and convenient so I can't wait to see their next adventures. If the next issue will be dealing with their parents and origins then I really can't wait for it. Kate seemed to know an awful alot about them by the end of the book though like Teddy's mix of Hulk and changeling blood, Billy's magical powers and their sexuality.
Ok so the latest names are:
Patriot
Wiccan
Hulkling
Stature
Kate Bishop (none specified)
I actually liked Asgardian better :( Stature sounds pretty lame too.
Anyway Jim Cheung's art is fantastic as usual, I've come to like the new costumes now although I still wish Patriot had the cool mask. Everyone should check this book out, its a great Avengers related book and stands on its own very well.

Iron Man was certainly looking at him oddly, when he was standing next to him at the end. He was probably thinking the same thing. What little of Vision we've seen, it's hard to tell. He seems to know who he is, but doesn't really seem to have a personality. So it may just be his mind, and not his persona. So Kang's command for him to watch over his friends could end up being what makes Vision do so.

At least everyone fianally knows the issues. I personally think it makes for a better book. As well as Iron lad being kang. I didnt know much about kang to begin with, but now when he comes back, there is much more history. I love the new costume, especially patriot. Its better to see his face. Wiccan is a tight name and Stature is just plain original. But now kate needs a name(and if any of you spoiler loosers wanna tell me now, DON'T.) iLL FIND OUT MYSELF. But the nex issue will be great as well as the arc. I cant wait to find out how wiccan and hulking got their powers.

I'm curious to see if there's any interaction between Vision and the New Avengers. If I got torn in half (again), I'd expect to be accepted back on the team. But I guess if this Vision is different than the previous one (no personality), I can see Cap telling him to watch over the kids.
By the way, before DISASSEMBLED, I wasn't a huge fan of the Avengers. I knew the characters and thought they were cool, but I really didn't follow the stories. But now I LOVE THEM! Vision is so bad ass, as is Hawkeye and She-Hulk. For me, Marvel's plan to make the Avengers the superhero team(s) is paying off. We get a little something old with all of our new.

I don't buy YA, but I do browse it occasionally.
I know that this is the Young Avenger's book, but the writer is going too far out of his way to make them look "hard-core." Captain America alone would wipe the floor with these guys six ways from Sunday, but here they are beating up on Kang. Not to mention Mr. Attitude (the so-called "Patriot") issuing threats.
While they're at it, why doesn't Marvel just sic these guys on Dr. Doom in Latveria and end that threat once and for all? Obviously they're capable enough. That was sarcasm, by the way.

That's one of the best things about Young Avengers. This is one of two Marvel books that I'm buying right now (it'll be up to 4 when Dan Slott's new books come out this fall). And with how heavily this book is tied into recent Avengers stories, I'm surprised how easy it is to understand. I don't feel like I have to have read the last year of Avengers to understand. Every event that is relevent to this story is explained so new readers will understand it. And I'm happy to say that Allan made some great emotional scenes from the, in my opinion, crap that was Avengers Dissassembled.
So, I'm very happy that I don't feel like I have to read other Marvel books to understand YA.
Wouldn't that be just a little too Young Justice?

There are similarities, yes. But we still don't know what Vision's role will be yet. Just the fact that Vision had that failsafe program that brought the team together makes this book different from Young Justice.

Yeah, a She-Hulk solicit refered to Cassie as "Titan".
I think that might have been a ruse in the solicit to not spoil what her real code name would be.
As far as spoiling Asgardian changing his name to Wiccan, all I can think of is that YA was running late and this issue should have come out before that solicit info.

This issue was frackin' awesome! Farethewell, Iron Lad. We all know he's coming back. Maybe Immortus will face the team, have a flash of memory, and separate from his teen self with the Forever Crystal! After all, Immortus has always exhibited a strong admiration foe the Avengers: now we know why.(for those who don't know, immortus is Kang's future/parallel self).
As for the new stuff, I gotta say i HATE those codenames, Stature and Wiccan. Lame. Hope Cas does switch to Titan , that sounds better. Even her M2 name, Stinger, is cooler! That Ass-guardian joke had me rolling too! But he should change his name to Magus or Warlock or Magi!
The costumes..ok, Wiccan's costume LOOKS THE SAME! minus the wings and staff, unfortunately. Why the hell does Hulking need a costume? He's a shape shifter! Can't really see Cassie's...Kate's rocks.
I can't wait to see the OTHER young Avengers that Vision had on file. Maybe that teen Spider-Woman from a few years back will join up(that blue-and-red costume rocked).

I enjoyed the issue a lot! This is one of Marvels better titles... I only hope it becomes more consistent.
I would have prefered the name Rune to Wiccan as well, but we'll see... they are kids and kids change their minds... a lot. Maybe it'll change again.
I did like Patriots full face mask verses the one he had at the end... I hope they go back to it.
The Ass-guardian joke had me laughing as well. Funny stuff.
Anyone read theletters page? Man, so people just can't get past the gay thing. I'm not gay... but I know many who are. They don't flaunt it just as I don't flaunt my hetrosexuality. One of the letters ranted about the homosexual overtones, the flaunting of that lifestyle... I haven't noticed any of that. If anything its been rather subdued and I applaud Marvel for writing a book like this. It's risky but I don't think something like homosexuality should be ignored regardless of your opinions on it. It's a fact of life. Live with it.

No your not, I was furious when I saw they had changed them. Not a smart move, especially Patriot, with the full mask he had some protection and was more of a useful disguise. I'd clock who he is straight away.
This issue cleared things in this story arc nicely, gave a bit of closure and some explanations. Now the moaners know that Asgardian (haHA, I had too laugh at that) and Hulkling are together. They can piss off can't they, and moan at other stuff (I mean, as if the X-men didn't have major political undertones)
I did fell sorry for Iron Lad as well, after all he did, he has too become Kang in order too save the people he cares for. Very sad.
It also seems that Patriot will be the team leader, but power struggles with Kate will take place, and then they'll get together

Okay, so I do like the evolution of this team, and it's fun to watch them grow into their own super-hero identities (as opposed to simple Avengers wannabes, which were cool too).
But I like it in theory more than in execution. I thought Patriot's costume was the best on the team, and I was incredibly fond of that look. In fact, a pencil sketch by Jimmy Cheung in an issue of Wizard compelled me to buy the book. But alas, said uniform is gone. Le sigh.
(Btw, is anyone else bothered by Eli's lack of eyebrows?!?!)
"Wiccan's" look is still slick, and they were wise to keep it similar. I agree that Rune would be a better name, though. I wouldn't be especially interested in a super-hero called "Catholic", "Jew", or "Occultist", so incidentally, "Wiccan" doesn't do it for me either.
Hulkling's name and personality is growing on me more and more.
Kate's look is beyond cool, though my disbelief is still in a state of precarious suspension as to her usefulness on the field. We shall see.
"Stature" is kinda weak, but is also kinda neat in a dorky way. It would work, and it would definitely work better than "Wiccan".
As for their costumes, Kate, Wiccan, and maybe Stature are gonna have some secret identity problems. Anybody who knows these people and sees pictures of the Young Avengers will instantly recognize them. (I mean, Kate's mask is a pair of sunglasses!) However, the next arc is called Secret Identities, so I'm sure this'll be addressed.
I liked seeing the kids in their element, at school. It was cool to see their different looks as super-heroes and as teens. I'm glad Eli's stereotypical-angry-black-man-ship was played down.
And it's wierd, but I enjoyed the gay dimension of this book. It adds a layer in the storry we don't see often in comics. It has potential if it's handled right, and so far, it's been handled right.
(I know gay kids my age, but reading about them in comic books?!?! Kinda different. Kinda cool.)
All in all, I'm excited for the developments in Young Avengers.

The Greek god Hermes is not associated with "super-speed." Where did you get that?
He was the messenger of the Gods and is associated with magic. He is also associate with the Egyptian god Thoth, who is the god of wisdom and magic.
And Hermes Trismegistus was a legendary person who supposedly wrote the Corpus Hermeticum which was supposed to be the first manuscript on magical theory.

Yes, true, along with lies, travelers, and lawyers. However, in order to be the messenger of the gods, he had to be fast enough to deliver the messages.
Not to mention the superfast winged sandals Hermes gave Perseus so that he could fight Medusa.

And as for the "Hermes" name debate, I think it would be a real poor choice as Hermes was never that strongly associated with magic in the first place.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hermes
Hermēs (Greek: 'Έρμης': 'pile of marker stones'), in Greek mythology, is the god of boundaries and of the travelers who cross them, of shepherds and cowherds, of orators, literature and poets, of athletics, of weights and measures and invention and commerce in general, of the cunning of thieves, and the messenger from the gods to humans.

I am glad this story is finally over. I like the concept of Young Avengers. I just don't like the execution of it. It feels to0 flat to me.

Is it just me or does it seem that Vision now has some sort of time altering/portal creating powers? I hope not, mostly because time travel makes my head hurt and makes me cry.
I do love this series, I wish all books were this good. As for Cassie's name being Stature instead of Titan, could it be that having a character with the same name as a certain group of other teen superheroes cause too many comparisons? I hope if Hawkeye survives HOM, he'll end up here (seeing as there isn't really a place for him in NA) as team mentor/co-mentor with Vision. He seems more like the kind of guy who would see the potetial in these kids, and train them. He's done it in the past, with the GLA, and saw the potential in Justice and Firestar. It's really a pipe dream of mine, but I think it would be cool if it happened.

Vizh is now made up of Kang armour, so he has the same time powers Kang does.
Clint should definitely meet the kids, if only to check out how Kate is reflecting on him and Bobbi.

Hermes was also the god of medicine. That symbol of two snakes around a staff with wings was Herme's staff.
Aeschepulus (I know I spelled that wrong) was the god of medicine, the Cadeucus was either a gift from Hermes or just really similiar to the stick that the god of medicine really had, I can't remember which.

Since DC isn't interested anymore, Marvel might as well give it a shot.
You know what would be cool? If Marvel could get Todd Nauck as a fill-in for a story arc or two.
oh that would just be fantastic!!! i'd be happy with even one fill-in issue from him!

The Caduceus has two intertwined serpents and wings on the top. Asclepius's staff has only had one serpent and no wings.
They used to mean different things (the latter being associated with medicine, the former being associated with magic and alchemy), but the meanings have blurred over the centuries.

I loved this issue. Actually, I love this book. YOUNG AVENGERS is currently my favorite Marvel title, along with RUNAWAYS.
I don't like the name Wiccan at all. I don't think we'd see any hero named The Catholic or the Hindu, and this makes no more sense. Also, the character's abilities and the realities of Wicca don't seem to have much in common. While Warlock is already spoken for, something like Arcane or Sorcerer would have been fine.
I liked Patriot's first costume better, too.
Everything else about the issue, fine and dandy with me. I like these characters. I like the feel of the team.
I would *really* love to see a crossover with RUNAWAYS.
Those who have issues with Hulkling and Wiccan being gay - get over it. I think it clear there isn't gonna be much explicit gay sex, so no worries there. If you can't deal with the idea of gay comics characters - or people - existing, just go crawl back in a cave and close it behind you.

This issue was great! I'm just loving this book. The dialogue is snappy. The stories are fun, and the characters are just great.
I'm sad to see Iron Lad go, but like most, I was totally expecting it. On the plus side, it's nice to have the Vision back. As for the uniforms, I prefer the old ones, but the new ones aren't awful, and the change from "Asgardian" to "Wiccan" doesn't really bother me, but I'd like to see Billy actually begin to practice Wicca, if he's going to be using the name.
Also, I'm very happy with the way the relationship between Billy and Teddy is being portrayed. I'm gay, and I find it nice to see well-adjusted gay characters that aren't uber-bitchy like Northstar or uber-violent like that loveable pair over in the Authority--all of whom I love, by the way.

Teddy did get a smidge violent when Billy went bye-bye... ;)

Losing your cool because a loved one is threatened and sodomizing an enemy with heavy machinery are two entirely different things. ;)

I know.
BTW, did Teddy seem a bit more Hulk-ish there to anyone? Reacting to something that he rationally knew wasn't Kang's fault with violence?

I noticed that too. I thought, "Well, NOW he's 'Hulking out.'" :)

Yeah, because that is so completely out of character for most teenagers.

True. But it would have been equally possible for him to have utterly distraught instead of furious.

Thats my thoughts too. Vision's order will be too be watch over the team... although now any time Kang returns, if they remind him (by Cassie's kiss I'm guessing) and he chooses to stay evil he could tell Vision to kill the entire team.
I just got the issue it was a great finish to the storyline. I really liked seeing the team out of their costume and just hanging, I hope we see more of that in the next arc as I want to know more about them, not their alter-egos.
I see the New Avengers coming back to talk to them very soon. If not at the end of the next arc, the one after that.

tht would eb a touching moment the New team of anvengers handing down the fatherly role to the young ones. Spiderman will probably be a fan favorite with the kids

Nah, they're true geeks, they're gonna go nuts for Jessica Drew, she's obscure and different. :p

I`m quitting this book!!!
It was my favorite series but I just think it has lost a huge step, especially with the last issue. For one thing that Iron Lad leaving was a big letdown, it was contrary to the spirit of the comic of these kids being in a wild adventure, with many things happening and not being bogged down with responsability. Second I can`t stand this annoying "know-it-all" Hawkette whatever character. But what made me want to throw up was when she said:"my father is rich". In one moment The Young Avengers went from underdogs, fighting for survival, trying to get buy(that was the charm of the concept!), young, unattached, on their own with a rusty crapy lair to...we`re rich, nothing to worry about.
Hey it started to suck sooner than Busiek`s Thunderbolts when the big reveal of THe Bolts being villains happened at Thunderbolts 12. That book never recovered after that and I quit. Now it`s happening even earlier at issue 6! Goodbye Mr. Heinberg it`s been real.
X-23 in X-Men and New X-Men, Southspaw in She-Hulk, that Hawkette character in Young Avengers(plus Arana)....wow I guess Marvel is drawing quite a picture for the upcoming years, the prolifications of annoying teenage girl sidekicks.

I think I'd wait until we see where it's going before making that assumption. It ain't gonna be easy to siphon off that amount of cash without it being noticed, and I'm SURE there'll be HELL TO PAY when Daddy finds out.

But if it focus on that i`m just afraid it`s gonna become just another New Warriors book. The set-up for Young Avengers was special, no places, no money, just these kids thrown out there in the wildest adventure of their lives. If they got the costumes, the head quarters, it`becomes too controled...or just another excuse for "Hey kids, it`s the OC as super-heroes!".

It's not like the Young Avengers had some set status quo that this new development is somehow violating. They were a team for like, 3 days when the confrontation with Kang began.
The first arc is something like the prologue for the actual team that has just been formed.

Yeah, he's acting like the mansion was their base and they'd been a team for years, they'd been together for a couple of weeks, and were using the ruins as a landmark/meeting place because it was Avenger-y and easy to find.
The warehouse and costumes ARE the status quo.
And what about Vic and Chase from Runaways or Gravity, Prodigy and Hellion? There are a few male teen heroes too.

Since they've already got the New Mutants Warlock, plus Adam Warlock, they might not have wanted to have too many guys with the same name running around at once. Like, imagine if there was more than one guy at a time named Green Lan-... uh, I mean Fla-... um, Captain Mar-...
...well, you get the idea.
-D
Actually, i don't think they are running around...
