The Amuro from Char's Counterattack replaces Misato just after she took Shinji in. He holds the same rank at Nerv, but may assist as an engineer as well (though he is limited to Eva-technology). How will he affect things?

We'll just have to replace them with daydreams of... um... that girl who likes Ritsuko. That should be at least as satisfying.
