Composite Superman.
He had all the powers of the Legion of Superheroes COMBINED.
So yeah, he was badass.
The look he had was by using Chameleon Boy's powers to make himself look like half Superman/Half Batman.

World's Finest #142, with a return in #168.
I think he returned years later (those appearances were in the 60s), but I am not sure.

Is there any way to do Composite Supes well nowadays? Because really, the powers of the entire Legion is a BIT much. I'm pretty sure he could wipe out the DCU with just the powers of Brainiac, Karate Kid, Dream Girl, and Mon El.
I can't imagine any way for the good guys to win that wouldn't have me thinking: "Oh, BULLS***!" :)

SEANThe look of the Composite Superman(half Supes/half Bats) was used for a giant Superman/Batman robot that figured prominently in the Superman/Batman "Public Enemies" story arc.
And believe it or not, the S/B robot wasn't the most ridiculous aspect of the story! That would be President Luthor hopped up on Venom and wearing his classic purple and green armor. So much for character development!

Yes. The Composite Superman of the eighties was not the late Joe Meach, however, but rather the alien named Xan. Xan was the alien who sought revenge in WORLD'S FINEST COMICS No. 168.
Xan also became Amalgamax in the eighties story.

Is there any way to do Composite Supes well nowadays? The post-Reboot Legion fought a renegade Durlan called the Composite Man who had copied all their powers.
I forget how they beat him, though.

Thanks, those were pretty neat...and corny as hell. :)
I especially loved how Compy made sure his half-a-mask was lead lined, so Superman couldn't see that one quarter of his face.
And by some glitch, you can see the first Superman/Flash race on that site too. What a ripoff. If I'd been around at the time, I'd have been disappointed as hell.

There was a brief tribute to Composite Superman in the JLU animated series. While battling Mordru, Superman fell to the ground in front of Booster Gold. As Booster reacted, Superman turned to reveal he was alos half-Batman. Booster asked if he was okay, and then Composite Superman... spoke in Wonder Woman's voice!
There was also a figure released fairly recently by DC Direct of the original Composite Superman.

There was also B.I.O.N. in Giffen's Legion of Super-Heroes run, who was basically a robot version of the Composite Superman.
I'm waging a one-man campaign to see the Composite Superman again in the DCU. He'd be a perfect character to show up in All-Star Superman, too... I can just see Quitely and Morrison going nuts with it...
Composite Superman is one of those obscure characters I'll always remember because World's Finest #283 was one of the first comics I ever bought. I remember thinking that he must have something to do with the Hulk because of the green skin. What actually was the deal with the green skin anyway?

The Composite Superman adopted green skin using the shapeshifting powers of Chameleon Boy. I suppose this was done so he would look more villainous and strange.
If they did reintroduce the Composite Superman, he would need a new origin. How about this: janitor Jeff Meach is exposed to kryptonite and various chemicals as Superman and Batman battle a villain within S.T.A.R. Labs. Meach is mutated by the accident, leaving him with green skin and the ability to mimic the powers, knowledge, and physical appearance of anyone he touches. Meach comes into contact with Superman and Batman, gaining the Man of Steel's powers and the Dark Knight's intellect and martial arts ability, but he also absorbs some of the thoughts of both men, and the conflicting nature of Superman and Batman's minds combined with his own drives Meach insane. Also, the Composite Superman is a bit of a clumsy name. Shortening it to the Composite Man would be better.

He did it to look like Brainiac 5. Which is strange, as he didn't feel the need to look like any of the other Legionnaires.

Imagine if he did. He'd look even stranger with Chameleon Boy's antennaes and Saturn Girl's breasts!

The version I heard was that since all the other LSHers have visual powers (shooting lightning etc) the green skin was to remind us that he also has Braniac 5s powers.
there's actually been 2 attempts to update him. In the v4 Adult Legion series the Dominators created BION a genetic construct will all the powers of the silver age legion. He was beaten by over charging an artifical gravity plate and having someone phase into him and rip out the wires. You might call it plot-induced-stupidity but it worked for me.
In the reboot legion they fought the Composite Man a duran shapeshifter who could copy the powers of anyone close to him. His body would randomly shift aquiring arms and legs of different LSHers. Very nice job on the visuals. He was beaten when Chamelon Boy told Braniac 5 the secret formula to negate his powers. IE by a plot device. It didn't work nearly as well.
Ah, Braniac 5, that makes sense. Well not really, but I will now sleep easier knowing that, thanks guys.
