Has anybody read this series from the mid 90's. I saw a whole run in one of the comic shops I browse and was really struck by the cover art. Its written by Jerry Ordway. There's a run of 24 going fairly cheap and I'm wondering if this was fun.
Anybody?

I loved it!!!!!
I have almost the entire run... I think I quit because of $$$ issues and missed 8 or 10 issues.

It was very pretty and somewhat dull, like Sarah Gillum.

It was an OK series but lacked in the art department. Even in the 90s DC was still of the belief that it was the characters that sold books, though certain creators could possibly be a factor, unlike today where they recognized that names can really boost a books sales. I was never a big fan of Krause and his early work on the series was a little too emulative of Jerry Ordway's own style, but lacking in his idiosyncrasies that make Jerry, Jerry. The approach to the stories also didn't give you a good idea of what Captain Marvel was capable of and especially failed to follow up on the positive exposure the character received as a result of Kingdom Come. The villains of the series were quaint little stereotypes right out of a 40's gangster film or similar period piece which made the character seem dated and old fashioned. Fawcett City had an art deco quality to it but it wasn't a style of Art Deco that worked, owing more to the Untouchables or film noir than the 40s Superman cartoons or epics like Metropolis or 1940s New York, which are garish enough to work in comics and look cool.
