Do you think Spider-Man will last as an Avenger? I always see Spider-Man as a independent hero and not a team member.
also does anyone know if there are any plans for Thor making his way back into the Marvel Universe and back as an Avenger?
Thanks!

1: Spider-Man will be there for awhile at least. New Avengers is selling and Spidey's membership plays a part in that.
2: Marvel has claimed Thor will return. Right now we're waiting. Rumor is currently that we'll have to wait until 2006 for Thor's return.

I like the argument that Spider-Man is an independent hero, when realistically, he's teamed-up with every MU hero and their mother.
I mean, hey, in MTU #14, he's teaming up with Invincible, who's an Image character. He's teamed up with so many MU characters they have to start importing them. ;)

I never really got the thing about Spider-Man being a loner or an independent. He always seemed like he was a little lonely and wanted to be on a team. I assume no team ever really wanted him because of his bad reputation.
Also in the Pulse did the Bugle start publishing positive things about Spider-Man in an effort to sell more papers. If they did it happened right before New Avengers, cleaned up their act right before he joined the team.

Yeah- from DC.

Heck, he even STARTED his own team at one point, just like Batman, another "loner hero" (who has more sidekicks/allies than most non-loners)

It's also the idea that Pete is growing up a bit as a hero. Joining a team means taking a little more responsibility within the hero community.

40 years is a long time to be an adolescent.

And he's treated like the veteran he is, offering up info on villains and places when the others, like Cage, don't know.

Yeah, Spidey will probably be an Avenger for a while, but doing his own thing in his own books.

I sure hope so, Bendis has made this particular version of Spider-Man fun again, and that's a good thing, certainly better than the constantly angst-ridden version.
Bendis is writing NA, right? Well, even if he's not, whoever is writing it has my full support.

I hope spidey is always a new avenger....it feels funnier and its cool to see him and spider-woman on the same team.

To be fair, we haven't seen a particularly angsty Spidey since Howard Mackie left. JMS and Jenkins made him fun again years ago, and have pretty much kept him that way, aside from the occasional heavy storyline.
EDIT: Oops, forgot about Millar. His Spidey was pretty angsty, I must admit.

Millar's run ended with Aunt May telling Peter to get out of one of those funks he sometimes gets in. So even then, not quite as angsty and he was certainly panicking following what had happened to Aunt May.

He'll be there for awhile. Its an interesting dynamic Bendis has going.

Eventually, Spider-Man as a full-time Avenger will run its course.
Doesn anyone really want to see Pete, MJ and Aunt May as regular inhabitants of Avengers Skyscraper (for want of a better term)?
It's new, it's fresh, it's exciting. It isn't Spider-Man. When Peter Parker is no longer living the life of a regular guy (when he's not being a super-hero), he loses what makes him interesting.
It makes much more sense for him to be a reservist or part-time Avenger who only works with the gang on battles inside of Manhattan. I don't see him being a world traveler or outer-space hero.
I'll guess that by issue 24, he won't be part of the core team.
On the other hand, it's much easier to accept Spider-Man on the team than the ubiquitous Wolverine.

Also, the fish out of water angle is interesting, and Peter moving them back to Queens or wherever after realising how dangerous the tower is solves that problem, he's ordinary Joe as Peter, and world-famous and beloved as Spidey, which makes a switch from the norm.

Logan crashes when it's convenient, I believe, but he "lives" in Westchester.
The Avengers know who he is (most of them did anyway) but no-one else new so far, I don't think?(Not even Jessica Jones... which is dumb, as EVERYONE else she knows, knows)

Spider-Man as an Avenger is an interesting idea that should have a huge impact on the Spidey titles as well as NA. Where Spidey was once viewed as an outsider and possible threat by the general public, he is now part of what's meant to be the premiere superteam in the Marvel U. From the above posts, it seems as though the Pulse is addressing this, but how about the Spidey titles? Is Spidey becoming more popular in the public eye?
Of course, NA consists of a spy, a mercenary, a psychotic mutant, a seemingly more ruthless businessman, and a fairly incompetant Captain A. Maybe this team isn't as well respected in the public eye as the old Avengers were.

I don't think he'll last for very long. He'll go the distance on The New Avengers, but when Avengers relaunches and the team goes back to a more triditional team (Hawkeye, Wanda, Vision, ect.) he won't stick around.
Yes, it's true that Spider-Man has teamed up with pretty much the entire MU. There's a difference between teaming up and being on a team though.
Pete has spent his entire career doing things on his own, often with the general public screaming for his head on a pike. Heck, the X-Men used to distrust/pity the guy. And that was in the hayday of mutant paranoia.
He may ask the occasional favor from the super-hero community, but 99% of the time he has to deal with things on his own. He has very little experience in actual teamwork. Things like watching somebody elses back or trusting somebody to watch his is not something he's used to.
In a way, he's more a loner than Wolverine.

Much more. Wolverine's entire life has been defined by the teams and organizations he's belonged to. Depending on which memories you believe, he's been in the army, the CIA, SHIELD, and various samurai clans and native tribes before joining Alpha Flight, and then the X-Men, and then the Avengers.

Admittedly, I don't like how he's portrayed in New Avengers, sure he's funny again but it's like he's only there for comic relief...

Actually, he's given a large chunk of the exposition too. And humor is part of Bendis style with anyone really. (Ult Spidey reading indexed fat jokes to Kingpin or imagining Jean Grey naked are golden moments)

Personally, I like Spidey as an Avenger. But if and when he leaves, I hope they keep some of the changes to the status quo.
Because "loner with the world against him" has held Spider-Man back for YEARS. I want the relationships and comrades he gains in NA to stand the test of time. Other members of the hero community go to one another all the time, but all Spider-Man does is seem to run into them.
Spider-Man is one of the hearts of the MU. He's one of the characters that defines what real heroism is all about.
It's time that he started mattering a lot more.

I'm not following New Avengers. But I have a feeling that Spider-man is going to stay an Avenger long after Bendis leaves. Marvel can't afford to lose sales on issues of the Avengers just because Spidey is gone. Look at it this way... when was the last time Wolverine was absent from the X-titles for even six months?

Spider-Man will probably leave the team in a few years, come back a few years later, quit a ferw years after that, repeat.

What are the odds of the eventual "Avenger No More" cover with Spider-Man walking away with his Avengers ID (although I don't think they still have those) in the trash can?

I hope he stay for a long long while . And i think his confidence issues and issues with being a team member has been quite solved in the Break out mini serie ...
Anyway his membership was long overdue , and is probably the most friendly of the loners .
i'll agree thought that i dont see him living forever in the Tower .. however i'm liking that change .
Even after bendis leaving the title (wich i hope will be in a far far away future ... i dare hope 100 issues) , i expect him to be a member , even if leaving/coming back depending of the roosters and creative teams

That is the thing, it's easy enough to have him move out.
And BMB does have a rep for being on titles for the long-haul.
(Around 80 issues of DD, Powers and USM, isn't it?)

Funny how some people say that Peter being an Avenger isn't right because Spider-man is losing the "regular guy" quality , etc.
Peter Parker stopped being a regular guy many many many years ago.
Even after he got his powers, I can understand people calling him a regular guy, what with him dealing with the weird, wonderful new powers and all that they brought to his life, but Spider-man isn't a regular guy anymore.
He may be humble and down-to-earth...but "regular" ....?
Nah.

If I only read New Avengers I would still hate the idea. It just doesn´t feel like he never does anything usefull and just comes with quipps.
But I do read AMZ and I really like the way he´s interacts with the team there. Seriously, AMZ has a better New Avengers story than the New Avengers comic.

I like Spidey on the Avengers i htink its pretty sweet that he's finally joined a team with some recognition and just just teaming up with them.
I hope he's a part of the book for a long time to come.
