They ditched a bunch of old threads over night to help with the server being so slow and crashing all the time. Pretty much everyone lost a bunch of posts. I lost around 5000, give or take a few hundred.

I am sooo sorry...here I am whining about 20/30 lousy posts.

I need to get my priorities straight...

Eh, it's no biggie, whether one loses 30 or 10,000. The only downside is, some good stuff is inevitably lost when the purges happen. But, such sacrifice is necessary for the good of the boards, I guess.

Eh, how often do you go back and read old stuff?

Eh, how often do you go back and read old stuff?

In the past - both pre- and post-"Zero Hout" - I've often linked to old threads when they contained things relevant to current discussions. I've also been known to do some thread-necromancy every now and then, bringing some old thread back for more discussion.

Often times, old posts - mine and those by others - have included links to articles, information, etc. relevant to other discussions which come up. I don't know how many times discussions have called for a link to research on STDs or gay issues, data about the ineffectiveness of DARE programs and abstinence-only sex ed, stuff about intelligent design, etc., and often it's easier to just go back to the old threads to find those links rather than websearching them again.

You certainly do if you think losing any number of posts is worth bitching about.

Fair enough. 99% of my old posts are just wise-ass remarks, so their deletion means I can mine my own material again without looking like I'm copying myself.

My god, how many Frank Stallone gags do you think were deleted?

It matters not, you can never have enough Frank Stallone gags.

The Baldwin and Sheen clans are also a wealth of material.

Oh, a goodly chunk of mine are just puns and snark and shit, too. No loss there. But, some gems always get flushed, too. Plus, when they do the purges, it becomes harder to call people on old shit, because you can't go back and quote the original posts.

I don't think I lost much at all, if anything. Whoopie!

Please don't hate me, I'd share if I could.

Maybe if you asked Matt real nicely, he'd go and delete some of your posts so you can feel part of the crowd.

Damn, I lost a few moments of genius. I wish we could have been warned, first, like "hey, if there are posts you're fond of, save them now before we trash them!"

I never even look at my post count, unless I see it's close to an even number, i.e. 1000, 2000, etc.

You mean round number. You'd hit an even number every other post.

I've lost a lotta my RAW Threads. As well as close to 3,000 posts today. It doesn't bother me because CBR needed it.

I lost like, 2000 posts. Or maybe it was 3000? I can't remember what my count was.

My post count used to be in the mid 8000's I believe, but I care more about the people that are lost than the posts.

I had just crossed over into the 10,000 club as i nicknamed it. Of course I had my own celebration and all.

But hey...I have 3,000 posts to be my usual demented self. :D

I'd post on the other thread, but I'm afraid it might get deleted in the near future (kidding).

Anyhoo, I lazily did a search recently for a thread about posting pics of where you live. Couldn't find it (again - lazy, if I spent more time on it, I probably would have found it). So I was debating on starting another thread. Have not done so yet. I just thought that if I did start another, it would get merged. But now? I guess not.

I'm not really concerned about post counts, when it is all said and done. I joked about it on the other thread. What can be potentially tragic is that some really great things disappear. But then again, some trash gets taken to the curb, too.

Just curious, but why?

Post counts aren't a status symbol or anything. Nobody looks at The MUNCHKing's post count and says, "Crap! Look at all of those posts! I've gotta catch up!"

That's the beauty of CBR's "Choose Your Own Tagline Under Your Username" feature. Other boards have a certain "rank" you attain for however many posts you make, which has led to people posting utter crap just to reach some status level. The CBR tagline is there to stop that sort of thing.

I'd rather see someone have 20 darn good posts than 3,000 posts of absolute nothing.

I have never, in eight years here, had any idea or interest in what my post count was. Typing this right now, I couldn't even tell you what it is. I never understood why anyone thought it was worth mentioning.

The only time I ever paid attention was when I looked over and saw I was on 9,996 and I was like...damn. Thats funny as hell. I sit on 9,999 awhile because it was a funny number and I debated on what I should do with a 10,000th CBR post.

That was it really. I pointed out several others post counts Hell if ya want go back and look at my thread from 3 days ago and see how many were in the top 6 or 7. ;)

I find it bizarre that people would prefer to leave CBR rather than having a lower post count.

Maybe the post count at CBR counts as " Bling Bling " to many.

That's what Xombie was talking about when he mentioned he cared more for the people that were "lost". At least That's what I assumed.

At least one CBR member has left because of the pruning.

Are you serious? Someone actually left just because they purged a bunch of old posts to help the server run more efficiently?

That's... more lame than any words I can think of at 2:34 a.m.

Well they saw it more as "controlling the environment" and deliberately targetting the "nonsensical garbage", but, essentially, yes.

It ain't the quantity, it's the quality. That said, I didn't lose many posts, but that's probably because most of mine were weak enough to pass beneath thier radar.

Edit: That, or they really want to keep track of me making an @$$ of myself:p
