As some of you know, I went out and got Suzannah’s late (thank G-d) mother’s ring repaired. This was complicated by her best friend commenting the weekend before that Suzannah should give her the ring so that she could have it repaired. I almost panicked. Fortunately, she didn’t go looking for it.
I didn’t give her the ring on our anniversary.
You see, the day before, we had a crisis. Our POS car broke down in my parents driveway. They were out of the country so we couldn’t get a ride, and all the local mechanics were closed. It was a stupid problem too. Which made it all the more frustrating. Suzannah was upset to the point of tears. She called her sister, who we were supposed to meet. I asked to speak to her and asked Jen if I should give Suzannah her gift a day early.
“What is it?”
“I got mom’s ring fixed.”
“…do it. Right now. Hang up on me.”
So I did.
It was like watching the sun come out.
