I remember when you were a skinny kid with a big goofy smile who worked at the gravel company. God-fearing and Bible quotin' and just as ignorant and happy as the day you were birthed.

Then you met that chubby little girl at the carnival, next thing, y'all were married, and then we didn't see much of you. Folks said y'all weren't as happy as we'd think. Said she tricked you into thinking by kissing her you got her pregnant. Folks said that if she was pregnant, it probably weren't your kid no how.

Next thing, you were gone. Folks thought you and your wife took off for a bigger city like Clarksdale or maybe Memphis.

Sooner or later, when they were doing some work at the high school, a load of gravel was put down on the front of the Jr High addition. That's when the nearly unrecognizable body of your dead wife was found tumbling out of the truck.

That's been almost 25 years. Mike...damn.

hell, we always known. i mean we use to pm each other and say why is mike hiding behind the "royal" name. we figured cause you were embrassed by the things you use to do, so we said among ourselves that a man has a right to hide his mistakes behind a mask if he done what you did.

I hate to say it but we were laughing behind your back when you thought you were being clever. once in a while i tried to stand up for you but the other just said "there go mike being a ass again". so i stopped and then it got kind of old what you were doing so we just left it alone.

But it's good to see you come out and show the world you're not hiding any more and you're ready to take your stand as a man again and not hide like some scared little girl anymore. I just hope you learned your lesson and start fresh again. how you gonna live down what you did is something i can't imagine,but i'm sure you find a way not to make an ass of yourself as you use to.
