How long did it take you?

Latuff, you know I wasn't a fan of your "dead soldier" stuff, but this I really like. It's simple, quick and gets your point across very well with unneeded pictures or words.

Keep it up.

I'm not sure...maybe 40 minutes from the first sketch 'till the final artwork.

Thank you! Let's say that I'm improving my political cartooning techniques thanks to CBR forum...

Yeah, this one is pretty good. Its not glorifying the killing of anybody, but points out that George is puting soldiers in the line of fire. For a very unpopular war.

But my only criticism is that I think you should have had the young boy with his back to the camera, and oblivious to the target that George was shaving there as George looks around and winks at the camera. Maybe in the mirror in front of the boy you could have him blissfully unaware and enjoying reading a pamphlet that says "Join the army, get college benefits and see the world!" or something.

I dont think George would show the kid his handywork.

Anyways, Im much fonder of this sort of cartoon over your more glorification of death stuff. :)

Hmmmmmmmmmmm good point, really good insight.

Patrick's spot on.

That would have been a big improvement, because that perspective (kid facing away from the viewer) would get both the Bush cariacture (as Bush would be turning around to wink at the viewer), the bullseye shaved in the kids head, AND the text of the brochure that the kid is reading about joining the Army.

Great call, Patrick!

While it is better, it kind of feels like it's missing the point. Soldiers lives are put on the line. It's what they do. It's why they get those big, fat government paychecks. What Bush might be guilty of is sending them to war with false intel, or with shoddy equipment, but that doesn't really come across in the barbershop setting. Body armor with targets, that would have made more sense. Although, a little dated perhaps.

But that is why it would be good to add the brochure bit, so you would see how they are being enticed to go out there with targets on their heads.

I understand what you're trying to say, but the paychecks aren't really that great. There is a little bit extra for hazard pay and stuff like that, but some of the lower ranks of enlisted men qualify for government aide like food stamps. Granted, they get paid better than minimum wage for putting their lives on the line and their are some perks to government service like medical, but in my mind the service we ask them to provide us with doesn't equate with what they're being paid.

Well Latuff...I agree with MikeSmash (I really need to quit doing that, its starting to freak me out).

I have been a pretty vocal critic of yours here on the board and have gone as far as to change some of your cartoons to make fun of you, but this is good.

Its funny, its creative and it doesn't beat the reader to death with how obvious it is. While I think that Patrick's idea could be another take on the theme, I don't think it would be better than this, just different.

Good cartoon!

I'm just wondering why Bush is always squinting in his work. He looks like the result of Mr. Magoo's love affair with a bonobo.

The man's a squinter. He's also got beady eyes, like his dad.
