This is my first review, so im sorry if its a little long
The Issue starts in Tokyo, where the Hellion squad, are fighting a squad of sapien terrorists to get information on the terrorist cell in Tokyo, Magik proves to be especially brutal when one of the terrorist fires a shot at her, and she opens a portal sending the bullet to the back of the mans head, Hellion remarks on how they are needed alive, Magik responds that only a few are needed, and "who cares" that the man was killed, This is quickly followed by Wind Dancer (in a good show of power) using her powers to thrash the remaining terrorist around, followed by hellion containing them, after refusing to give any info they have, Magik sends them to a Volcano until they decide to talk. The next scene is on the shield helicarrier, Elixir and Wither (!!!!) are working in tandem to get information from a human captive, who turns out to be Cameron Hodge (!) Elixir tells Hodge that since he has telepathic resistance, and refuses to spill about where the terrorists are in Tokyo, wither will use his powers on him, and if complies, Elixir will heal him, after refusing to talk, Wither begins withering Hodge, Disgusted by what she is seeing behind a 2 way mirror surge rushes in to stop them. Surge exclaims that she wont let wither touch her, and makes a joke about Elixir healing her to deal, and in a very Claremontish stretch of powers, Elixir shows he has some control over body functions, and makes blood flow to surges lungs (very cool), he even can sense that surge is low on power, in which surge responds by using the rest of her power to knockout wither, and beating elixir without powers, after the fight Hodge explains that the utopia mutants live in isn't to great for humans, and that S.H.I.E.L.D. will never stop pursuing Hodge, he then tells Surge that he will tell her where her father is on one condition and that's that she kills him, Surge begrudgingly agrees and kills him. after coming to, Elixir calls Moonstar, and he tells her he thinks Surge talked to Hodge, and Moonstar is pleased, she explains that she has someone following Surge, and that she will lead S.H.I.E.L.D. to Her father. Back at the volcano, Magik uses some persuasive methods to get the Japanese terrorists to admit that they know something called project genesis, and that its Sunfire's personal project, back at the new mutant leadership institute, Prodigy and Surge are looking for info on the computer, and Prodigy explains how he sapped Cipher's ability to understand computer language to hack the S.H.I.E.L.D. Japan computer and finds some info on Project genesis that bothers him, him and surge start assembling a team to deal with the problem, he finds Wallflower (who is talking to her dad, the conversation is vague, but seems shady) and Mercury, Sophie Stepford, senses the distresses and wants to help (although her sisters refuse to join the team but promise they will not tell on their sister) suddenly Prodigy picks up the ability to speak Chinese and instantly knows jubilee and Dust are spying on them, Prodigy begrudgingly lets the 2 join much to the dismay of mercury and Wallflower who call them the "shallow twins". In the next scene Tag, finds Quires dead body, he is mortified and starts talking to Karma about it, she says that he shut his own brain off, and even though Tag believes there was foul play, Karma assures no mutant she knows is strong enough to shut down his powerful mind, Doc Garrison walks in and says that in their sessions Quire had talked a lot about suicide (no doubt to throw everyone off to the fact that his daughter had been the one who made him kill himself) Tag runs off in disbelief. In Tokyo the Hellion squad is talking to Emperor Sunfire, and he explains that Surge's father was his closest adviser, and that Surge was like a niece to him, but Surges father hid the fact that surge was a mutant from Sunfire, when he found this out he took Surge away from him, and had him punished. and at the end of the issue the team Prodigy assembled goes to a warehouse where they believe surges father is, but are stooped by humans with weaponry who explain they cant let the kids leave alive.
Now the Review, new mutants is the best house of M title besides Fantastic four (IMHO) the issue was great good pacing, great writing, good art. the writers really did a great job of expanding on the powers of Elixir (which I HOPE is expanded on by the new writers, imagine him shutting off a persons vision, or somthing like that), also they way magik is written is awesome, she is brutal, and is using her powers to their full brutal capabilities. I love how dust is written in the house of M universe, it makes it clear the women probably wouldnt be opressed they are under mutant control as they are in human control. and the issue also has enough intrique to keep me wanting to read the next issue, i really liked it.
