Yo who is liking the line up of the two X-Titles? I think the X-Men Book has really takin off with Havok's squad and there adventures. He really had a pretty tight squad in Juggernaunt, Iceman, Gambit, Rogue, Polaris, and Wolverine. While in Uncanny X-Men they dealt with Psylocke, Rachel and the others. I honestly think Havok had the squad tho. What about you guys?

I prefer the line-up in X-Men myself. I'm interested in more of the characters. It's got four of my favourite X-Men appearing on a regular basis.
Uncanny X-Men . . . well, it's a good book and I buy it every month, but I don't actually read it for any of the characters.

X-Men for me as well. I am a fan of each of the characters featured.
I would like know if Archangel is going to wind up in any of the X-books after the latest reshuffle, if anyone is in the know.

Uncanny by far.......I still love Havok and Polaris, but have no great fondess for the rest of that squad. I do like it better than the Asonishing cast, ugh.

uncanny's line up is nothing bad , yet nothing exceptional neither .
I prefer adjectiveless xmen's rooster , mainly because of Havok and Polaris , and even if Iceman really piss me off .
I'd like something like Beast leaving astonishing for Xmen , and maybe Iceman going to astonishing or better limbo :D . Hank is not much used there , except of course for that whole professor in his lab routine ... he could still appears as the science expert a few time in astonishing , but be more active in the Xmen team .
Or maybe Storm could join and either make Havok feel even more threatened in his leadership or simply help him feel more confident .

I like both of the squad's rosters, but i enjoy Uncanny much more because of the writing. X-Men is just too random for me, and the dialogue is quite iffy for me, but that's just my opinion.

I expect once Joss leaves, Astonishing will probably be canned and the cast move into the other books. Scott/Emma/Hank go to X-Men and Kitty/Pitor go to Uncanny would be my bet.

I'd assume if Hank goes anywhere, it would be Uncanny. Claremont has him listed as one of the characters he wants in his book. And he has the whole Beast/Psylocke thing that he's been wanting to develop since X-Treme. :)

True, but it might be a concession. Claremont goes for Kitty over Hank, Kitty mandates Colossus... so Hank (being the other "strong guy") goes to Milligan. Between Kurt, Logan and Pitor on Uncanny, Hank becomes sort of redundant in terms of abilities (though admittedly, not character). They might want to play up the remaining originals together on one book too.

I like all the lineups so far but I'm more interested in the upcoming lineup changes to X-Men (who now have Storm yay!) and Uncanny. One of them is going to the Exiles and the Astonishing team I don't expect to change until Whedon's tenure is over although it is possible for the Astonishing title to stay around with a new creative team.
Also transferring all those Astonishing characters is going be a headache since some will either have to be in limbo or, if all of them stay together as a group, they'll have to create a new title.

Wait, what? Strom's only in X-Men for the Wakanda thing, she didn't jump teams. And what's this about someone going to the Exiles?
Claremont did imply Sam would be returning to Uncanny eventually though over at X-fan though. Besides that, I expect the teams to remain relatively intact the next year or so (with Logan dropping in and out).

Hmm, you're right my mistake. It's only for that arc.
And yeah an X-Man will be joining the Exiles, not sure who though.

Good news on Cannonball, I don't know why they decided to put the guy through the worse suffering imaginable under Liefeld's pencil.

I bet after Whedon's Year Two there will be another "big shakeup" and all the teams will get shuffled again. Unless it happens sooner due to house of M.
I find the Uncanny team kind of snoozy. They're just "capital-S-Superheroes". The Adjectiveless team is alot more human to me. X-Men, doing the job they were born to do, whether they mesh well or not, whether they like it or not.
I find the Astonishing team the most interesting combination, but I feel like I hardly ever get to see them do anything because the book comes out so rarely. Cyclops, Beast, Kitty and Emma all appear as solo guest stars in other books 5 times more often than they appear in their own team book, so it's almost like they're not even a "team". They're just free agent X-Men who have one or two missions together a year. :(

Uncanny X-Men has better writing and art than X-Men, but the roster sucks big time. X-Men has a loaded roster, but the writing and art is unspectacular and boring at best. Astonishing is on such a horrid late schedule it should just be done away with all together or given to a creative team that can keep a monthly schedule, Brian k Vaughan would be great by the way :D. So as you can see, I am very dissatisfied with the X-Men books at the moment. But on a positive note, PAD's X-Factor will be awesome in writing, art, and roster :D .

I loved the Austen lineup too. What a fantastic team! The current X-Men plus Juggernaut, Northstar and maybe a little Xorn II thrown in for kicks. The earlier lineup with Archangel, Husk and Nightcrawler instead of Rogue and Gambit was great too. Too bad Austen had to write such terrible stories with them!!!!!

I really don't like the line-up of this team at all. Or the writing...or the art...lol...I just had a subscription which I was too darned lazy to cancel! Thank god it finally ended...
That said, this team could be bearable if you could only get rid of Gambit and Rogue. They are the worst. No, wait...I take that back, Emma Frost is the worst. And Wolverine has absolutely no place on this team. Havok, Polaris and Iceman I actually like. Well, I wish I could like Iceman but with the way he's written lately I guess he is just not meant to be likeable. He has been one of my favorite characters though.
But anyway yeah this line-up needs help.

I like both line-ups to be honest. The only line-ups I do or did not like are New X-Men ans Ashtonishing. Well New is gonna have a chance for the better and Ashtonishing, I just don't buy it.
Uncanny could use Cannonball on the team again and X-Men could use Cecilia and Beast.
Emma must leave her involvement is this team.
For the Good of X
08-25-2005, 01:24 PM
I see too much repetition. Emma shouldn't be in X-Men. Wolvie should be in Uncanny or X-Men. It's ridiculous.
The Uncanny roster has shifted so much. I like the addition of Psylocke - her interaction with both Kurt and Rachel is good. Odd that Claremont has spent little time on Ororo and Betsy. But I could do without Bishop or Rachel. Bring back Sam and Amara with Psylocke, Storm, Nightcrawler and maybe James Proudstar. That be a nice mix of generations and characters.
As for X-Men...oy. Crazy Lorna has been fun but there's no good dynamic with Havok and Iceman. Gambit needs to go, Rogue needs to become a tough, independent woman again. Sage could be fun on this team - though I know she's going to Excalibur.
Really, the rosters for New Excalibur and X-Factor are far more intriguing than the two core titles. Astonishing is well um y'know, there.

I agree.
I just realized that in all the 3 core teams of X-Men, the only chacter that was created within the last 15 years is Bishop. The rest have been X-Men for at least 20 years. Maybe a bit less for Gambit.. Emma is new to the X-Men, but she's still an old character. I think that's why the teams feel so stale to me. They really need some new blood!! Just one or two new characters on each team would make a big difference. Cecilia. Magma. Stacy X. Paige. Maggot*. Canonball. Warpath. There's a whole X-Corps filled with fresh, underused characters that would make good X-Men. I'm sure fans would love to see them step up to the big leagues, and it would surely breathe some life back into the books.
In the mean time we're reading about a bunch of teachers.

Yeah, I was mixing up being an older character with being and X-Man for a long time. Two problems that I should have separated more clearly.

The Uncanny X-Men line-up is decent. Not my favorite, but its still good.
The X-Men roster is so-so. I dont think Gambit, Rogue, and Emma fit in well. The Havok/Polaris/Iceman thing works. Wolverine should be in this book (and not the other two core books). Throw in Archangel and Husk, and maybe Jubilee. I dunno.

I'm hoping HOM serves as an excuse to shuffle the line-ups again. I agree with what Gaveedra said above about the need for fresh or new characters. I'm bored with seeing the same old X-men being trotted out again and again. For me what was initially interesting about Foxx in Adjectiveless was the prospect of someone new being introduced to the fold. I'm not suggesting that we retire all the old X-men but just that I wish more of a balance could be struck between old and new. I find the line-ups of all the core books to be pretty uninspiring right about now.

I would hope the line-up would be more original. We already have Astonishing with the big characters, why not take a chance to use little seen/little used characters for X-Men and Uncanny...? I mean why not use other mutants from the MU like say...Vanguard...or Typhoid Marty, etc...

I like all the line-ups at the moment, maybe not so much what they are doing with them and the adjectiveless line-up can use a bit of a boost Northstar, Archangel. My dislike of Rogue may change now with the Sunfire development, so they have some new direction to explore her.
If they need Wolverine on a team, keep him on Astonishing. With Kitty there and with Cyclops there, I think Logan can be put to the best use there in interactions. In Uncanny he can still play off Nightcrawler and Storm, but in adjectiveless I feel he has no real ties to the character that are exploitable.

I like the X-Men lineup, lots of good soap opera possibilities with the characters' histories.
I enjoy Uncanny, but the lineup isn't the greatest. Logan, Kurt and Rachel are great, but the others...Claremont has made Bishop more interesting than anyone else ever did, and he's still pretty darned boring. I love Ororo, but the character hasn't interested me in years, maybe she and Forge can retire together somewhere. I hate Betsy as a ninja, and Sage doesn't really do much for me either. Bring on Sam, Dani, Shan, and (pretty please?) Illyana.

My favorite lineup for Uncanny would be Sam, Dani, Rachel, Amara, Bobby(unless he stays in the Hellfire Club), James, and Nightcrawler, and maybe throw in Rahne and Psylocke for good measure.

Yes I completely agree. It's completely unnecessary. Wolverine especially doesn't bring anything to the table in "X-Men". He should stay in Uncanny and Astonishing (preferably Astonishing). Emma should just be killed off already...

I would prefer the X-Books if the writers picked any character they wanted for that specific arc.
That way, they would have freedom over all the X-Men. They could all interact a hell of a lot more and we would see all 3 writers different takes on everyone.
I do like all the current X-Men (wouldn't get rid of anyone) but I think they should add Warren & Paige, Northstar and Cannonball again. These are popular charcaters who have long histories with the other X-Men.

That'd be really interesting. It really doesn't make sens that there's not more bleed-over with all the X-Men living under the same roof. But the X-editors seem to have a hard enough time keeping all the characters straight as it is!
I want Magma to become an active member of the XSE. Right now, Sunspot & Magma are reserve members.

It's an awesome idea. Marvel won't do it probably because it might screw with continuity. Like that hasn't been worked over enough.

Uncanny: The writing's quality fluctuates IMO, and the interaction among who's been selected is less than satisfying. As a book overall, I find it decent, but the characters are written rather boring to me. As far as cast goes, its also decent, but could use some more flavors.
X-Men: Writing isn't quite top notch, but the quality also fluctuates for me. It has a great rounded out cast of five, though I could see some additions work for them.
Astonishing: The characters individually bore me except for Emma, and I really dislike Kitty and feel nothing for Piotr. This cast feels too safe for me.
NEX: Just like the females of the team.
X-Factor: One of the more better lineups I've seen in a while.

I don't like having Rogue in Adjectiveless, partly because Milligan doesn't seem to have a handle on her and partly because apart from Wolverine and Gambit, she doesn't seem to have much of a connection with the rest of the cast. That's the problem I'm having with that cast -- they all seem to be just kind of there.
For me, the heyday of the X-Men was back in the Uncanny #150-200 era, when the cast was small and you really felt like you knew how any given pair of them felt about each other. Any combination of two of them you could come up with, there was some memorable scene featuring them and you felt like you could describe their relationship in some detail. This doesn't seem to happen any more, and I think a lot of it is because the characters switch books so often and there's so much coming and going. In Adjectiveless, I don't feel that I have any idea how, say, Rogue and Havok feel about each other, or Gambit and Polaris, or Wolverine and Iceman.
I'd like to move Rogue over to Uncanny so she could interact with Storm, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, and Rachel, all of whom she has a history with. If Cannonball hadn't been yanked out of Chris Claremont's book suddenly, it would be even better -- I loved the friendship and history between Sam and Rogue that CC was developing towards the end of X-Treme, but it seemed that just as it was getting interesting, the teams all got reshuffled. I'd also like to see Rogue and Northstar spending some time together -- I loved their brief interaction in that X-Men/Alpha Flight mini about 20 years ago, because it felt like we were seeing Northstar opening up to and caring about someone other than himself or his sister for the first time EVER, and it was also refreshing to see Rogue be the well-adjusted and "together" half of ANY pair, but then we never saw them together again.
I'd also be happy to see Rogue and Gambit in different titles because I think they both become instantly less interesting as soon as you put them together. They've been attached at the hip for most of the past 15 years but their relationship never goes anywhere and rarely seems to bring either of them much joy, so I say let's give them some time apart.
Between Kurt, Logan and Pitor on Uncanny, Hank becomes sort of redundant in terms of abilities (though admittedly, not character).
True, but that hasn't stopped Claremont from having Rachel and Psylocke both in Uncanny, and half of Morrison's New X-Men cast were telepaths. But I agree with your point -- I actually think having Rachel and Psylocke in the same book is pointless, and I was extremely bored having Xavier AND Jean AND Emma all together in the same book.
Back to Uncanny, I didn't miss Psylocke while she was dead, and don't have any interest in Bishop, either, so I'd be happy to see both of them go. The only time I ever found Bishop interesting was when he was interacting with Sage in XXM, but once she left Uncanny, my interest in Bishop went back down to zero.

I'm enjoying the Uncanny lineup the most. My favourite X-team is the Claremont/Byrne team, and Uncanny has Storm, Wolverine and Nightcrawler. The only change i'd like to see is for Kitty and Colossus to join Uncanny.
Other than Kitty, I don't see a lot of character development in Astonishing, and I have no real interst in Emma and Scott. I wouldn't mind seeing Beast in another team, though.
As for X-Men, I like Havok, Polaris, and Rogue. The team could do without Emma and Gambit.
The most interesting lineup looks to be X-Factor. I can't wait for this book to arrive.
