Dear People,

I feel that I really must bring this to your Attention. I used to work for
a large UK Comic Book retailer, until around 2 months ago, when I decided
that I would return to University. To cut a long story short, last year
George perez was good enough to do a signing at out store, and he did each
member of staff a nice personalised A4 sketch. I got a Thanos one done,
and was really excited. The manager who is a HUGE Perez fan, said she
would 'hold' onto them for everyone for framing (which she never got round
to doing). Las week, I got in touch with the manager & asked if I could
pick up my sketch at her convenience. I was told sorry-'I threw it out!'
Now, firstly this person is a HUGE Perez fan, so there's NO WAY it could
have been thrown out unless maliciously. When I got in touch with Head
Office, they told me the same thing. Now I happen to know that there were
two other members of staff who left, who never got their sketches back
either (a Zatanna, and a Flash), and that the manager kept them for
herself.
I'm outraged and gutted, as this was a special sketch to me, I love Perez,
and I spent a great day with him and his wife showing them around
Edinburgh. I don't think that he would be none too happy, knowing that his
work had been 'thrown out', if it indeed has been. For a Manager of a
Comic Store to throw away a piece of original art, just does not make
sense.
I was so enraged about this that I posted about it on www.George-Perez.Com
and they have actually featured the story on their news section. It can be found at:
http://vu.morrissey-solo.com/moz/perez/time/fp2004.htm
I was hoping that perhaps you could pick up on this story, as I feel that it is only right, that the comics community should be made aware of the utter disrepect apparently being shown to George's work.
I have also enclosed a transcript of the email, and the posting that I
made on George-Perez.com.
If you require any more information, please don't hesitate to get in
touch, and I will be only too happy to discuss the situation further with
you.
Sincerely,
Steve ( A gutted Perez fan)

George - I think you're great! I had the pleasure of meeting you & your
wife twice last year, and showing her the belly-dancing shop when you
visited Scotland & you did a signing in a certain Edinburgh comic shop :)
I worked there & helped out on the signing. What a great day! I was so
stoked when you did me my Thanos sketch, specially signed for me!
Unfortunately, upon leaving the aforementioned store to go begin my
doctorate, when i asked for my sketch back, I was told that they had
"thrown it out!" I'm gutted! And to be honest, the person who claims to
have thrown it out, is supposedly a big fan of your's-so it's a bit hard
to believe! Here is the email transcript:

I don't mean to come across as bitter, but how sad is it, that
ex-employees of comic book stores, will 'throw away' these precious works
of george? I just hope that he reads this and see's the person involved
for what they are... I should also mention that the ex-asistant manager
got a zatanna sketch done, as well as another employee who got a
personalised flash sketch done...both these employees were not given their
sketches either upon leaving employment with these monkeys....

No worries there.

I don't blame you for being bitter. I loathe people who are deceitful in those ways.

Which store/chain was it?

Which store/chain was it?

There is only one large UK Comic retailer

Does that limit service?

Incidentally, I live in Canada and don't know what that chain is - mind sharing? Surely someone not complaining about a chain can tell me what the largest chain is without breaking any laws.

Hmmmm... I assume we are talking about the one which, when they opened two stores in New York City, refused to hire any local people, but insisted on bringing in their own people from Great Britain (in violation of U.S. law).

Whats the big secret here?

As for the mysterious store name, here's a hint:

What do Leslie Nielsen and William Shakespeare have in common?

P.S. This post in NO way endorses the subject of this thread. I'm commenting on the responses. I have no idea what the thread starter is talking about.

What makes you think the store owner really threw it out instead of just keeping it? That would be my guess as to what really happened... "I threw it out" is just her cover story.

Exactly what I thought. Damn we're cynical!

Hell I don't know, they both pee standing up? Is this a riddle? The ring is in my pocket. Hows that?
