The creation of UK writer David A J Berner, “Dead Man’s Chest” is the latest in Midnite Comics’ line of one-shot short stories known as Midnite Minis. The comic introduces us to Jake Purcell, a Drake-like pirate-cum-adventurer in the service of Queen Elizabeth I.
The comic is written by Midnite Comics’ Senior Editor, David A J Berner, who is also responsible for the group’s on-line graphic novel, “Shades”. Artwork for the title is by talented Mexican artist, Ulises Curiel, with colours by US-based Bill Keys.
Co-Founders Oscar Cavazos and Jud Cooper said: “Our Midnite Minis have proved extremely popular here at Midnite Comics and this latest title by David and Ulises will be an especially exciting addition to the series.”
Although “Dead Man’s Chest” is a complete story in itself, the group did not rule out the possibility of stand-alone sequels in the future.
The opening pages of “Dead Man’s Chest” will be available for preview from the end of August at www.midnitecomics.com (http://www.midnitecomics.com). Subscription to Midnite Comics is currently free and grants access to other areas of the site, including all regular updates to live titles and special features such as creators’ commentaries.
