View Full Version : Favourite minor DCU hero?
Just curious as to who people like. Myself? I'm a huge fan of Bart/Kid Flash! It's the whole Impulse thing, and wanting to be treated as an adult. Nice attitude, too. :D
I like The Atom and wish more people would use him.

Mary Marvel has always been a favourite, and I don't think anyone's ever used the Elongated Man to his full potential!

I always thought Blue Beetle was kinda cool, but I can see why they killed him off. His appearance in Countdown made for a great Beetle story, too.
I also like Wonder Girl and Superboy, but they may count as major characters.

Ragman definately - would love to see a mini with him in after Day of Vengeance. Isn't there some sort of magic super team coming after Infiinte Crisis - anbody know anything about this. It would surely have several minor characters in as magic has taken a back seat in the DCU over the past few years.

Can anyone explain to me why they needed to create a Metamorpho knock-off? Was the original really too busy?

I'm not really sure at what level a character becomes minor, but these are the (only) four characters I'd buy a solo series of, regardless of creative team.
Impulse - The Waid/Ramos run may be the best DC run of the 90s. The other issues were solid, but they never approached that level. Impulse was a great character though...his innocence combined with his attitude with his pure heart...he worked perfectly. Too bad he's only a shadow of that character now.
Blue Beetle - I love the old (and tragically few) Charlton Ted Kord Blue Beetle stories. They're tons of fun. Whether it's the Ted that's simply a superhero with a sense of humor (as in those comics and his highly underrated solo DC series) or the hilarious guy from the JLI days, I always enjoy reading about the Blue Beetle. And his costume kicks ass...definitely my favorite superhero custome. Too bad he was shot.
Harley Quinn - What a fun character...hopelessly in love, but the depth to her doesn't end there. Just read some of the Dini/Timm comics in which she's featured. Great stuff. Too bad her DC series was largely either a T&A fest or Catwoman-lite.
Green Lantern (John Stewart) - Okay, actually I'd buy any GL series, but John Stewart especially stands out. Read Green Lantern Mosaic and you'll understand...John has such depth in that series, he's truly the most interesting of the Green Lanterns. Too bad he's relegated to a background role these days.
Hmmmm...I'm not really as bitter as that may sound.
I also like Plastic Man, but that's just because Kyle Baker is currently doing his series.

Vixen, I think you mean. Yeah, she's one of my all time faves too. I love all her looks, but especially her look from Suicide Squad. It was the best! I wish she's go back to that costume!

Blue Devil.
Its a shame he hasn't had much done with him since the 1990's. Except for a good role in Day of Vengence. Where he actually comes across a smart , good hero. Heres a thought. Joe Kelly works for DC and he wrote a good charactor who tried being a hero at times in Deadpool. Make him write Blue Devil and we'll see what happens. :)

Guy Gardner: Warrior!
I'll echo the calls for Impulse. His entire character has been seriously derailed with the advent of "Kid Flash".

My favorite minor characters:
Jack Knight Starman
John Henry Irons Steel (who needs his own series written by Morrison)
Zauriel (I want him to make an appearance in the Hawkman book, might be interesting)
Ray Palmer Atom (he is that cool x-factor in the JLA)
Golden Age (Sandman Mystery Theater version) Sandman
Golden Age Hourman (he minor? I would say so.)
Paul Kirk Manhunter (as represented in James Robinson's "Golden Age")
Metamorpho (I agree... why confuse the issue by making two of these guys? Shift? Totally weird to me.)
Catwoman (as written by Ed Brubaker)
Shade (the villain who has a soft-spot for heroes and always ends up doing good deeds)
Chronos (from that short-lived series that took place during DC One Million)
Resurrection Man (for being so damned cool during DC One Million)
I am sure there are more...

I agree here, Blue Devil is a great character.. I do miss seeing him in a regular series. WHo knows after this new Crisis what role he will play.
My other favorite is of course Ambush Bug.

It's a crime that in this day and age, Plastic Man would fall under "minor" DCU heroes. Sigh. When I read a Golden Age reprint, Plas' stories always, always, entertain more than most others.
To answer the thread question, I really really really like Starman. Which one? All of them. Of course I love Jack Knight and Courtney Whitmore, but I also have a really soft spot for Will Payton/Prince Gavyn. I wish Gavyn would turn into Will in the Rann/Thanagar War for a while, but alas, I don't think that'll happen.
I've also recently due to the work of Geoff Johns fallen in love with the Hourman dynasty.
