MAGGOT : I think when people judge him, he gets the short end of the stick. I hear his powers are lame or gross, that there are too many blue mutants, etc. But I thought many things about him were original and he was a refreshing character.
REVANCHE : I know many people hated the body swap, and its understandable. But I know many people love what Kwannon added to Betsy, but still despise her and love Psylocke. Oh well.
HELLIONS I : Such a great rival team to the New Mutants, all with their somewhat unique powers, and interesting personalities (most especially the ladies and Empath).

After reading the X-Man petition thread, I say it's Nate Grey. Who would of ever thought so many hated him just for not being the cookie cutter boring everyday mutant that they read every month? Sad.

Most Mishandled: Gambit - Jack of all trades turned into aone trick pony
Most Under Appreciated: Banshee - Could be a great bad guy or tragic hero.
Underrated power for power: Iceman - Control over water is such a powerful thing its scary.
Most Overused: Wolverine - He's taking the spotlight from everyone else.

Most Mishandled: T-Bird III. He should have had a bigger chance. Everyone seems to hate this guy, just because they gave him the wrong name in their eyes. He was a cool guy and they gave him the rooky treatment as they did with Cannonball once. A shame! They should bring him back and perhaps give him another name so please the Thunderbird's fans. Cannonball comes in second for the same reason, the rooky threatment while he had lots of expeariance.
Most Under Appreciated: Cecilia Reyes. She showed great value in the ZT saga and I liked the way she spiked Jeager. Also the flirting with Beast has made a promising devepment and than, she went to limbo to end op in Neverland. She has been seen in The End books, so maybe they are planning to bring her back.
Underrated power for power: Magma- Control over lava and vulcano's is such a powerful thing its scary, they should give her a permanent role again.
Most Overused: Agreeing on Wolverine - He's taking the spotlight from everyone else, plus fans (like me) are starting to dislike hin, because he is everywhere and it makes him a mascotte instead of a cool character

Is that truly what you took away from that thread? Sad indeed. I've read every response in it, and I haven't seen one person post anything even implying that the reason they didn't like Nate Grey is because he was different from other characters. Guess what? Longshot is different from cookie-cutter, everyday mutants. So is Cypher, and Magik. So is Warlock, and the Mimic, and Madrox, and those are all some of my favorite characters. Trust me, Erik, we don't not like Nate Grey because he was different; we don't like him because he was uninteresting, nothing happened in his book, and he was a brat of a character. It's honestly not the same thing.

Frenzy. She's been around since the early days of X-Factor and has gone through a lot for such a minor character. She served Apocalypse, kicked Captain America's ass, was a freelance mercenary that went up against Gambit, joined Magneto's Acolytes and stayed with them in their entirety, and even joined the X-Men (okay, it was because she was brainwashed into doing so, but I think if given the opportunity, she would have joined the X-Men; she just needed some direction in her life). And now, it seems she'll be left in limbo forever. Though I *loved* her cameo appearance in X-Men: The End.

NOTHING happened in his book? X-Man #15 was the first REAL appearance of Onslaught. Jean and Madelyne reunited in X-Man #25. Nate vs Holocaust in X-Man #16-17 was one of the best X-fights of that time period. Nate and Sinister interacting in X-Man #18-19 was worlds better than his involvement with the lackluster Gambit in X-Men #45 and #52. In just one panel, Nate basically summed up how Sinister is even more evil than Apocalypse and by that standard, worse. Nate vs Xavier in X-Man #10 saw something happen that had never happened: A telepath pulling Xavier out of the Astral Plane into plain sight. X-Man #30 had Nate save his genetic grandparents, Jean's parents and her nephew, from certain death at the hands of the Prime Sentinels.
Nate was a VERY good book. A lost mutant on a journey about himself who didn't necessarily trust the 616 X-Men thanks to their leader being a villian in disguise. Like I said, more readable than the over complicated "Askani Son" or the guy who claims to be the "Best at what he does" even though he hasn't figured out what the hell that is till this day.
Agreeing with the above posts. In my opinion, I think that Wolverine is overused a bit too much. If he's not saving the day, then he's killing his old team members.
I'd like to see more of Gambit and Magma. Magma especially, as I havent seen her with a main role for a while now.

Banshee rules beyond words.
He should get more air time. The guy is always there when they need it the most like a brother sticking by you through everything. During Breakdown when The X-Men were taken apart from one end of the World to the next, you had Banshee and Forge saving the day like two old gunslingers going at it for one last ride, back against the World. When others were running for the their lives Banshee was trying to bring back the gang and made sure there was going to BE an X-Men team.
I also love his powers and his outfit with the weird-like wings beneath his arm.

Until last year I would have said Madrox.
Now I"m going to have to say powerwise, Iceman. Personality wise, Cecelia Reyes.

Stevie Hunter--- She gave the x-books a real world experience, A normal human interacting with superpowered people. A element that is sorely lacking in the current titles. She should be brought back as a teacher at the school.
Banshee--He and Forge at one time brought the team back together
Rachel-- Great character, Love that she is back in Chris's hands
Captain Britain-- A flawed Hero. He has the pedigree, but he's got some major internal demons namely himself

But Erik, no one likes Onslaught. And while most people like AoA, no one cares about Holocaust outside of the AoA. I realize it may not seem fair to you, but most X-fans simply don't like a lot of what happened in the books in the 90s, and choose to sweep it under the rug as much as possible. What you're asking is for 90s X-Men stuff to be taken as seriously/referenced as often as the 80s stuff... and baby, that just ain't gonna happen. No way, no how. The bottom line is that very few people care what happens in a solo X-book if it doesn't impact the main team books (and, arguably, doesn't involve Wolverine). I don't want to argue with you about your opinion, buddy- it's yours, and I've no more right to say you're wrong in it than you would to tell me Madrox is a stupid character, or Longshot. What I'm debating is your presumption that people didn't like Nate Grey because he wasn't a cookie cutter character... because no one in the thread you're talking about said anything of the sort. People didn't like Nate Grey because he was a spoiled brat, because his book lacked direction, and because (to be quite frank) he had a lame costume. That doesn't mean YOU can't like him, and more power to you... but don't start tossing around untrue accusations about why others don't like him. That ain't cool, amigo.

That's not true. Mostly a CBR generalization. The AoA was probably the greatest X-story of all time when it came to the use of all kind of characers from every facet. And your thoughts about Nate being a "spoiled brat" are your own and why it's very comical to read your "opinion" on the matter. The character had a tougher past than Wolverine, Jean, Angel, Beast, Cyclops, Storm, and Iceman combined. He just doesn't trust the X-Men. That doesn't make him spoiled or unlikable. Only those confined to the everyday X-story would say such things. I tend to think out of the realm of the normal X-reader. Sorry but I don't buy it. Not one word of it.

I gotta go with Tag from the Hellions, his powers maybe not do much damage but they can be a huge asset like Sage is to the regular X-men. Banshee and Forge, these have leadership skills and proved on numberous occassions, never tho do they receive much recognition.

Most underrated:
Cecilia Reyes - like the power, like her attitude about being a hero, sad she's gone
Thunderbird III - totally deserves another chance. He was shaping up to be a potential ladies' man. Too bad
Karma - of all the original New Mutants, only her powers have never been expanded upon. She has an interesting back story. Should be developed further
Magma - I don't get this one. She has a super cool look, neat powers, and a unique back story. Why she is not being used is beyond me
Magik I - Such a conflicted character. Loved the angelic face hiding the demonic soul. Wasted
Warpath - He has been made so complex over the years and now he is completely forgotten
Siryn - It is about time for her to come back.
Jesse Bedlam - Never had a chance to be completely developed before they shuffled him off
M - Cool concept for a power. The mutant ability to be perfect. Awesome
Cerise - Just always loved her visually. Would love to see more of her
Northstar - Such a mishandled character. Joined the X-Men and did absolutely nothing except die. What a waste of a great opportunity.
