So, other than Scott, Kurt's always been my favorite X-Man. And it's just occurred to me that he has a solo book that I've never bothered to pick up, even though (I think, anyway) it's drawn by Darrick Robertson who's one of my favorite artists. So, tell me: am I missing anything? What's the book about? Is it true that Night Nurse is a supporting character? Has Amanda shown up? Kurt's not a priest or Belasco or anything stupid like that in the book is he? Tell me all about it. Thanks.

It's really good. It was one of the few actually readable solo books that came out. It featured Kurt and Magik II (Amanda), as well as some of the other X-Men in supporting roles. It dealt with an aspect of the Marvel Universe that X-Books typically haven't dealt with much lately, demons, ghosts, etc. No priest stuff, no Belasco, no Azazel. Unfortunatly like almost all solo books, it just got the axe with #12. :(

Thanks for the info. Sounds interesting. Is Amanda still going by Magik? ( I suppose it's better than Daytripper) Sorry to hear it's getting the axe. Are there any trades?

Yeah, she's still going by Magik and ruling over Limbo. I'm not sure on Trades, but I assume there will be. Almost everything gets collected for Trades now adays. :p

I picked up "The Devil Inside" in TPB form... wonderful, wonderful stuff.

Great use of other X-characters, great insight into Amanda... funny, funny bits with Hank and Kurt

Have they officially announced that it is cancelled with issue #12, I don't remember seeing anything and if they did please post a link to the article.

It's not been officially announced, but #12 was solicited as a 'Wrap Up' issue. And there's been some posts on other boards that said it was cancelled with 12.

It was really good. And that's not just the fanboy talking. I'd definately recomend picking it up if it comes out in trades.

Only thing it says in the solicits is that the title of the story is "Loose Ends," it never says it is a wrap up issue. And posts on other boards don't mean anything more than someone misinterpreting the title of the story.

By the way commenting on the story it is a good read, must for any Nightcrawler fan but if you aren't a fan of Nightcrawler I don't see much reason to pick it up.

The artist does confirm its cancellation on his message board, alas.

It seems a bit esoteric for an ongoing monthly. Kurt is a truly wonderful character and is surrounded by a cast of interesting people, but most of them are X-folk. I miss Amanda, so it was nice for her to have an outlet. It also seemed to have a direction that didn't exemplify the funny, carefree Nightcrawler from early on. Brooding and depressed seems more Scott than Kurt to me.

Still, there's a lot of great things here, and I'll miss it.

It definitely could've used more humor, and a stronger first issue.

Darick Robertson obviously loves Nightcrawler all to tiny, tiny pieces, and it shows in every lovely panel of the series. Unfortunately, in the pre-hiatus issues, Kurt didn't work all that well as a paranormal investigator. He's a good-hearted, adventurous guy. Carl Kolchak he ain't. (I guess even the new Kolchak ain't exactly Kolchak any more, but what can ya do?) The post-hiatus issues of the book were fabulous, freaky, full-on wigout material (again with BE-YOO-TI-FUL art), but all in all, it probably would have worked best as maybe a three-issue outsized miniseries.

But that panel of toddler Kurt in--what--? issue 11?--was about the cutest effenheimer thing I'd ever seen in a comic. Sugar!

Robertson does sell his art over at eBay, by the by. His prices are fair, too.

Agreed

My view on this is I Love Nightcrawler therefore I don`t buy this book. It`s way too dark and depressing. Nightcrawler is a swashbuckler! Don`t these guys know what makes `crawler cool? Alan Davis knows.
