For me:

1) GODLAND.
Joe Casey's dialogue is often brilliant. A great re-creation of the old style 60s-80s comics storytelling, with a new spin. The Kirby art is a roar. GREAT character designs, a really nice appealing package.

2) WINTERMEN
Haven't read it yet, but damn does that JP Leon know how to draw! Hooooo-leeee cow! And I'm a sucker for the Soviet stuff. Why does "the enemy" -- those mad Cold War Ruskies, those crazy Nazis -- always have such a great sense of graphic design?

3) THE DEFENDERS
Awwww, yeah!

Best,

I am also enjoying The Defenders. I wish it wasn't just a limited series.

Hmmm. There's an idea.

Those guys should get an ongoing series. From a publisher. Hmmm. I wonder who'd be willing to publish that? Hmmm. Anyone know any publishers?

I'm actually loving Young Avengers. Part of it may be from having ZERO expectations of it.

Legion of Superheroes has pretty Barry Kitson art. It's an "is the next issue out yet??" title for me.

Gail can write bad people very, veyr well, so I'm enjoying Villains United. She's also writing a readable Superman, which is something I haven't seen in a whil - not to mention Lois Lane as a character instead of a charicature.

There's also this book I like, but I doubt any of you have heard of it. It's by those guys who used to do Justice Leage...

I recently read "Tricked" by Alex Robinson. I'm currently re-reading Alex's "Box Office Posion" to find the connections between the two books.

Morts, you're on top of it.

LOVE the Young Avengers book.

Mark's blowing me away on LEGION. Better than any other version, except I love the 5 Year Later Legion that Keith did.

VILLAINS UNITED -- how can Cat Man be kewl???!!!!

Lawks sir, you'll turn my head.

LOVE the Young Avengers book.

I wanted to enjoy New Avengers, but last week's BASEMENT TAPES column explains perfectly why I don't dig it.

Loved the 5 Years concept, but wasn't so into it when it was first out.

I actually liked the Zero Hour reboot. it was the PERFECT all-ages book.

VILLAINS UNITED -- how can Cat Man be kewl???!!!!

And gail writes the best Cheshire and Deathstroke since Wolfman.

What I can remember of my reading list off the top of my head:

Walking Dead (great story of survival)
Ex Machina (Tony Harris... and a great story to boot)
Young Avengers (issue-by-issue)
New Warriors (proof of my certificate of New Warriors geekitude can be found right here (http://www.coreyblake.com/nwcc))
Small Gods (just started back in on this - #7 had the best car chase scene I've ever seen in a comic, #10 just came out [haven't read it yet])
Samurai: Heaven & Earth (beautiful Luke Ross art... and that Marz fellow ain't no slouch either)
OMAC Project (despite the "Sacrifice" debacle, a cool read)
Serenity (feels just like the TV series, and great art)
House of M (finally got interesting about 3 or so issues into it)
Strangers in Paradise (that old Terry Moore spark is coming back)

... I'm sure I'm forgetting something...

I'm reading (when I can. lol):

1) Hero Squared: J.M. DeMatties and Keith Griffen are hilarous. This is one of the best, if not the best, books I'm reading right now (and no I'm not just saying that cause I'm on this board. lol)

2) Defenders: J.M. DeMatties and Keith Griffen again. These guys are so funny!!

3) Savage Dragon: Whenever it comes out. lol. Great book, just wish it came out more. Ya, I know...Erik is a busy guy....

4) Invincible: In trades. Excellent series! Kirkman is one of the best writers right now. I'd collect more of his stuff...but he writes so much! lol.

5) Astro City: Whenever a new mini-series comes out, I'm there. Astro City is great. Currently I'm reading the Dark Ages maxi. Its really good so far!

6) Ultimate Spiderman: Missed a lot of issues, but I try to pick up a new one every once and awhile. Bendis and Bagley do such a cool title here!

7) Stardust Kid: DeMatties again. One of my favorite writers. Only got #1 so far (not sure if #2 has come out yet or not), but I want to continue reading this one.

8) Ultimate Iron Man: Orson Scott Card and Andy Kubert. Good stuff.

9) Angel (current mini): I got the first couple of issues and liked it. Might read more of it.

10) Planetary: trades. I was collecting the regular issues too, but I've missed so many, so I'll just have to get them in trades. Heck, I have the first two trades anyway. Looking forward to the next one! :)

Maybe:

Godland: First issue was just ok. Might check out the next issue, not sure yet.

Hellboy: I've wanted to check it out a trade for awhile now, but haven't had the chance yet. I did read the Island #1 but I didn't really understand it..........

Arrowsmith: Another trade I really want to check out.

Walking Dead: ditto.

Serenity : IF I can ever get my hands on the first issue....lol.....

And...I'm sure I'm forgetting something....

I collect too many comics. lol! :)

I'm reading:

1) New Warriors- cuz it's fun. I didn't think I would like it but there is no denying that this is one hilarious comic.

2) 100 Bullets- I was reading in trade form but I could not wait that long for these stories to come out. Beautiful art as well as gut wrenching tales.

3) Defenders- duh!

4) Ultimate Spider-Man- Another book I can not wait a month for ( sometimes two weeks is too much time). It even made me write that poorly crafted sentence.

5) Birds of Prey- Gail Simone is one of the most underrated writers in the biz.

6) Invincible- Another fun, superhero story. We need more of these.

7) Hellboy/BPRD- I am a sucker for the paranormal and myth. Hellboy is the coolest hero and Abe Sapien gives me the creeps...in a good way.

8) Batman- My first favorite hero. I enjoy Judd Winick's stories, however, I wish Bats was less of an arrogant d****.

Batman's a hero?

I mean, I know he is in theory, but I haven't read a "heroic" Batman story in forever and a day.

Well, I said my first favorite hero. I was five ( 1976) when I was playing with a batmobile and watching reruns of the 60's TV show. So I am talking about the mythic Batman. The ideal Batman that is the American icon. And to be fair, I think their is a nobility to the current Batman that is understated.

Thanks to a certain Mr. Giffen and Mr. DeMatteis, I'm still collecting JLA. But I'm a bunch of months behind.

And of course I read Noble Causes, but I hear those Boom! books are pretty good. :D
